[0:09] makes landfall and history. The most
[0:11] powerful hurricane ever to hit this
[0:13] region knocks out power and causes
[0:15] widespread damage. We have a team of
[0:18] correspondents, producers, and
[0:19] photojournalists spread across the
[0:21] hurricane zone to bring you extensive
[0:23] coverage beginning with the headlines in
[0:26] 60 seconds.
[0:29] Hurricane Michael is a hurricane of the
[0:30] worst kind.
[0:32] A category 4 landfall in the month of
[0:34] October.
[0:35] One of the strongest storms ever to hit
[0:36] America and the strongest storm to hit
[0:39] this coast since the 1850s.
[0:41] This started out very innocently a week
[0:43] ago. It grew into a monster.
[0:45] This hurricane has just defied all
[0:47] expectations and continued to pick up
[0:49] steam.
[0:50] This is the coming storm surge. They're
[0:52] expecting possibly up to 12 ft of this.
[0:54] Landfall was made near Mexico Beach,
[0:57] Florida.
[0:57] Maximum sustained winds 155 mph.
[1:01] Just 2 mph away from a category 5.
[1:05] Is this going to produce catastrophic
[1:07] damage?
[1:07] Unfortunately, I don't think enough
[1:09] people have left.
[1:10] I am scared to death of the people that
[1:11] chose not to evacuate. This is a
[1:13] horrible, horrible storm.
