[0:04] Iraq threatens to use Allied prisoners

[0:07] as human shields. President Bush says

[0:09] Saddam Hussein will be held accountable

[0:11] for any mistreatment. And US war

[0:14] plananes keep up attacks despite bad

[0:16] weather over Iraq.

[0:20] This is the CBS Evening News. Dan Rather

[0:22] reporting. Good evening. 5 days into the

[0:25] Persian Gulf War, Saddam Hussein is

[0:27] bidding to shift the focus onto a

[0:29] potentially vulnerable point for

[0:31] Americans prisoners of war. Iraq said it

[0:33] now holds more than 20 US and allied

[0:36] airmen. It showed some of them bruised

[0:39] and bewildered on television and

[0:41] indicated they would be used as human

[0:43] shields at what were described as

[0:45] civilian, economic, and other targets

[1:06] missile launchers are apparently still

[1:07] intact. For his part, President Bush

[1:10] said he was outraged at Iraq publicly

[1:12] displaying American PS, putting words in

[1:14] their mouths under duress, and

[1:16] threatening to use them as human

[1:18] shields. He said this gave Saddam

[1:20] Hussein no psychological or military

[1:22] edge, but could leave Saddam open to

[1:25] prosecution as a war criminal. White

[1:27] House correspondent Wyatt Andrews has

[1:29] the latest. Wyatt. Dan. It was an angry

[1:32] President Bush who today bitterly

[1:34] denounced that what he called the brutal

[1:36] parading of those down pilots on

[1:38] television
