[0:50] >> Good evening. Federal health officials
[0:52] have launched a new investigation into
[0:54] what gene therapy researchers knew but
[0:57] didn't tell about possible risks to
[0:59] patients. Recent disclosures have turned
[1:02] up several deaths and hundreds of side
[1:04] effects in gene therapy patients. The
[1:07] latest case involves children in gene
[1:09] therapy who may have been exposed to a
[1:12] deadly virus. CBS's Elizabeth Kaledan
[1:14] has been digging into how this could
[1:17] happen.
[1:18] >> Doctors at St. Jude Children's Research
[1:20] Hospital made the unnerving discovery in
[1:22] January. A gene therapy experiment to
[1:24] treat children dying of cancer may have
[1:27] been tainted with the HIV virus. Dr.
[1:30] Laura Bowman was the principal
[1:31] investigator.

[1:35] vacation when I got the page and it was
