[0:02] Isabel finally here. The hurricane

[0:05] punches ashore, moves inland turning out

[0:08] the lights, shutting down the

[0:09] government, and it's not over yet. The

[0:12] latest tonight on where this still

[0:13] dangerous storm is headed and what it is

[0:15] doing.

[0:17] Also tonight, the war for Iraq. US

[0:19] troops ambushed again. Several are dead.

[0:23] Is there any break in sight?

[0:25] And how a lot of Americans got burned

[0:28] in a summer without sun and a final shot

[0:31] from a hurricane.

[0:37] This is the CBS Evening News with Dan

[1:09] barrier islands of North Carolina about

[1:11] midday, winds gusting over 100 miles an

[1:14] hour.

[1:15] The wind snapped power lines in North

[1:17] Carolina and Virginia and left more than

[1:19] a million homes and businesses in those

[1:21] regions without electricity. The federal

[1:24] government in Washington virtually

[1:25] closed down. President Bush left town

[1:27] before the storm hit. Isabel is now

[1:30] moving inland and moving mostly up on

[1:32] the map at a brisk 25 miles an hour.

[1:35] Floods are still likely, but the danger

[1:37] of flooding might be somewhat less

[1:39] because the system is moving so fast. A

[1:42] turn to the north-northwest would take

[1:44] Isabel across ea
