[0:00] Everybody, let's go to CBS.
[0:06] This is the CBS Evening News. Dan Rather
[0:09] reporting from CBS News primary
[0:11] headquarters in New Hampshire. A good
[0:14] New England good evening to you. First
[0:16] in the nation, New Hampshire primary
[0:17] night. Most polls will be closed in 30
[0:20] minutes here in the Granite State where
[0:22] the delegates are few, the stakes are
[0:24] high, and where some candidate campaign
[0:27] trails could end out in the snow. The
[0:29] balloting started amid indications of a
[0:32] tight race for first place between
[0:34] Republicans George Bush and Bob Doe.
[0:36] Bush slightly favored. A gridlock
[0:38] bunchup of Pat Robertson, Jack Kemp, and
[0:40] Pete Deont for third place. Among the
[0:43] Democrats, Governor from Next Door,
[0:45] Massachusetts, Michael Dakus for weeks
[0:47] has been widely expected to win big here
[0:50] in friendly home territory. Paul Simon
[0:52] and Richard Gart were hoping and buying
[0:54] for second place. All of tonight's
[0:56] hopefuls hoping for the money and
[0:58] momentum to make it south to Super
[1:00] Tuesday's delegate bonanza country. Our
[1:03] CBS News chief Washington correspondent
[1:05] Bob Schiffer is here tonight covering
[1:06] the Republicans to help us try to sort
[1:08] out who's hot and who's not, what worked
[1:11] and what didn't. So Bob, tell us all
[1:13] about it. Thank you Dan. One of the
[1:15] things we're beginning to pick up from
[1:17] the CBS News New York Times exit poll is
[1:19] that this race in New Hampshire really
[1:21] did become an entirely new ball game
[1:23] after Iowa. Nearly 1/ half of the
[1:25] Republicans that we questioned in our
[1:27] survey said they did not make up their
[1:29] minds which candidate to vot
