[0:00] hello friends at Bible Baptist thank you
[0:03] for joining us for final thought from
[0:06] First Samuel chapter 16 as we're looking
[0:08] at the early early life of David the
[0:13] shepherd boy and as we've been looking
[0:15] over the past two videos really we're
[0:18] asking the question why did God choose
[0:20] David to be the next king what was it
[0:23] about this shepherd boy that led God to
[0:27] choose him and anoint him to be the next
[0:29] king of Israel and we saw if you join us
[0:32] for the past two videos we saw first of
[0:35] all David was spiritual hey the Bible
[0:37] says that he was a man after God's own
[0:39] heart David's life was in harmony with
[0:42] the Lord and then secondly we saw that
[0:45] David was humble even after he was
[0:48] anointed to be the next king of Israel
[0:50] he went right back to taking care of the
[0:53] sheep he was just a humble a servant and
[0:56] can I say today when God would said
[0:59] people we're really asking the question
[1:01] in this series what what kind of people
[1:03] does God choose and what kind of people
[1:05] does God use well first of all he uses
[1:08] spiritual people as we seen from the
[1:10] life of David he also uses humble people
[1:13] as we've also seen from the life of
[1:15] David but now I want to show you the
[1:17] third reason that I believe that God
[1:19] chose David and one of the third
[1:21] qualities that God is looking for and
[1:23] the people that he uses today and that
[1:26] third qualities this he's looking for
[1:28] people that are faithful he's looking
[1:31] for people that are faithful and I
[1:33] believe when God looked at a heaven and
[1:35] he looked at this young shepherd boy he
[1:37] found a young man that was faithful and
[1:40] I believe he was faithful in three areas
[1:42] and when you come to first Kings chapter
[1:44] 16 once again we find that David was
[1:47] faithful in a solitude he was faithful
[1:50] in solitude you just think about the
[1:54] fact that he was a shepherd boy and all
[1:55] the the days and the nights that he
[1:58] spent out all alone with by himself with
[2:01] those sheep it was just aside for the
[2:04] Sheep it was just him in the Lord a
[2:05] human little in the Lord all the days
[2:08] that he spent out in the green pastures
[2:11] and all the days that he spent
[2:13] out by the still waters underneath the
[2:16] Sun of the day underneath the stars
[2:19] during the nighttime he was all by
[2:22] himself and it was a time of solitude
[2:24] but I believe the fact that he was a man
[2:27] after God's own heart he utilized and at
[2:30] that time of solitude to cultivate a
[2:33] close relationship with the Lord he
[2:36] learned to walk with the Lord he learned
[2:38] how to pray during that time he learned
[2:40] how to worship during that time he
[2:43] learned how to praise during that time
[2:45] and he certainly did not waste that time
[2:48] of Solitude
[2:49] but he was faithful in that solitude and
[2:52] I believe that God did a great work in
[2:54] his heart in his life during those days
[2:56] of solitude I think when you begin to
[2:59] read the Bible and study the Bible I
[3:01] think there's an interesting connection
[3:02] between the people the men and women
[3:05] that God used in a great way and I
[3:08] believe you can find notable times of
[3:10] solitude in their life and I don't
[3:12] understand it all but there's a
[3:14] connection there I think of David he
[3:16] spent 40 years in the backside of a
[3:19] desert that was the time of solitude we
[3:21] think of David out with the sheep of the
[3:23] shepherd boy we think of Elijah and the
[3:25] brook Sherratt that was the time of
[3:27] solitude in his life you come the New
[3:29] Testament and you find you find Paul
[3:32] going to Arabia and God doing a great
[3:35] work in his life there all alone we come
[3:38] to Revelation chapter 1 we find John on
[3:40] the Isle of Patmos and there I God met
[3:43] him and his solitude and did a great
[3:45] work in his life
[3:46] and let me encourage you I God still use
[3:49] a solitude in our lives today and I'm
[3:52] encouraged you don't always you're in a
[3:53] time of solitude I have to run to social
[3:56] media or run to the video games or run
[3:59] the Turlington television and music and
[4:01] drown out the silence on our live we
[4:04] ought to seek out tons of solitude and
[4:06] embrace that and we ought to use that
[4:09] and I'm not saying that you'll to have
[4:10] weeks and months at times of solitude
[4:13] but I am saying that every day you want
[4:15] to have a time of solitude where you get
[4:18] alone with the Lord and draw closely
[4:21] Heilmann
[4:22] and allow him to speak to you through
[4:24] his word and you speak back to him
[4:26] through prayer
[4:26] hey be faithful in your solitude because
[4:29] God does a great work in her lives
[4:31] during those that during that time at
[4:35] number two I believe he was not only
[4:36] faithful in a solitude I believe he was
[4:38] faithful in obscurity as well he was
[4:41] faithful in obscurity you think about
[4:44] him as a shepherd boy growing up taking
[4:47] care of the Sheep listen he was faithful
[4:49] with that with that task and with those
[4:51] responsibilities he was faithful even
[4:54] when no one knew who he was when nobody
[4:57] when the world and even didn't even know
[4:59] where he was I'm even thinking about
[5:01] Bethlehem today we know Bethlehem
[5:03] because David was born and raised there
[5:05] we think our Lord was born and raised
[5:07] there was singing about Bethlehem during
[5:10] Christmas time every year there was
[5:13] other events that took place in
[5:17] Bethlehem throughout scripture but back
[5:19] in David's day growing up it wasn't well
[5:22] known like it was today and if he was
[5:24] out traveling somewhere and someone said
[5:27] hey hey where are you from he probably
[5:29] would have said something like this he
[5:31] would have said oh you don't worry you
[5:32] would you've never heard of it before
[5:33] that's the kind of place if he was
[5:35] raised he and it would have been a
[5:37] lonely place an insignificant place
[5:39] strength at the time of his upbringing
[5:42] but that's where he was faithful at you
[5:44] know in a lonely place in an obscure
[5:47] place hey when he was unseen when he was
[5:50] unknown when he was unrecognized went
[5:53] for the most part unappreciated hey he
[5:56] was just faithful during those days and
[5:58] I think God saw that when God looked at
[6:01] a heaven and saw this young man being
[6:04] faithful with his responsibilities
[6:06] in a place of obscurity
[6:09] I believe God thought to himself if he
[6:12] can be faithful and obscurity if he
[6:14] could be faithful with his tasks and
[6:17] responsibilities and and to serve me and
[6:20] to walk with me even in a place of
[6:22] obscurity even in a private place if he
[6:25] can serve me and private that then I
[6:28] believe I can trust him to serve me in
[6:30] public and sure enough that's exactly
[6:33] what goes on to happen and I believe but
[6:36] that was a strong reason for why God
[6:38] chose him to be
[6:41] to be the king in the moment to use him
[6:42] in a greater capacity because he knew
[6:46] that he was faithful in obscurity I may
[6:50] be talking to somebody today who you
[6:52] serve the Lord but it's it's not adding
[6:54] up in a platform somewhere it's not in
[6:56] it you don't have some public ministry
[6:58] you serve Him in the shadows and you
[7:01] serve him behind the scenes and you
[7:02] serve Him I may be in a lonely place and
[7:05] you feel like you're unseen and you're
[7:07] unknown and you're unrecognized and
[7:09] maybe you feel unappreciated let me save
[7:12] this hey that's okay don't be
[7:14] discouraged by that you keep on serving
[7:16] him even if it is in a lonely place even
[7:19] if it is in the shadows even if it is in
[7:21] a place of obscurity you keep serving
[7:24] the Lord because if no one else sees you
[7:26] listen to me God sees you and may God
[7:29] find you faithful right where you are
[7:32] even if it's a place of obscurity
[7:34] because God is looking for people like
[7:36] that hey that's the kind of people that
[7:38] God uses if you can be faithful in a pub
[7:41] in a private place in an obscure place
[7:44] then God can trust you to serve Him
[7:46] perhaps in a public place one day but
[7:49] you keep being faithful just like David
[7:51] and serving in a place of obscurity I
[7:54] believe lastly that he was not just
[7:56] faithful in a solitude and in a place of
[7:58] obscurity he's also faithful with
[8:01] reality he's also faithful with reality
[8:04] now you may be tempted to think just
[8:06] because he was serving in in solitude
[8:09] and in a place of obscurity that he was
[8:11] just walking around gazing up at the
[8:13] clouds all day but that was not the case
[8:16] when you come to chapter 17 that he
[8:18] arrives from the battlefield and Goliath
[8:21] is taunting him and throwing out his
[8:24] challenges when David arrived he said
[8:26] hey what's going on here who is this
[8:28] giant and they let him know what was
[8:30] going on and David said well I'll take
[8:33] him on if no one else is gonna do with
[8:34] him and take care of him and defeat him
[8:37] I then I guess I'll be the one to do it
[8:39] and they asked him what what makes you
[8:41] think that you can take on this giant
[8:43] and he says well let me tell you why I
[8:45] back in Bethlehem when I was keeping the
[8:48] Sheep I learned how to defeat the Lions
[8:50] and I've learned how to defeat the the
[8:52] Bears and because the Lord helped me
[8:54] overcome
[8:54] then I know that the Lord will help me
[8:57] to overcome this giant as well and when
[9:01] he said that that let us know that back
[9:03] in Bethlehem he was learning how to
[9:05] overcome the challenges of his life and
[9:08] can I say how if you don't learn how to
[9:12] overcome the Lions and the Bears in your
[9:14] life that how in the world are you and I
[9:17] going to overcome learn how to overcome
[9:19] the Giants in our life listen back in
[9:22] Bethlehem he was he was facing real life
[9:26] challenges and he was learning how to
[9:28] overcome those real life challenges and
[9:31] the challenges that he overcame back
[9:33] then gave him the confidence in his Lord
[9:36] to overcome the Giant there at the
[9:39] Valley of Elah let me encourage you
[9:42] learn how to overcome the challenges
[9:44] with the Lord's help learn how to
[9:46] overcome the challenges in your life now
[9:48] hey learn how to overcome sin now learn
[9:51] how to get your prayers answered now
[9:53] learn how to persevere through trials
[9:55] now because when you learn how to defeat
[9:58] the Lions of the Bears in your life
[9:59] today that's going to give you the
[10:01] confidence and the courage to overcome
[10:03] the Giants in your life tomorrow listen
[10:06] be faithful with the reality whatever
[10:08] challenges that come your way whatever
[10:10] challenges your faith is facing hey with
[10:13] the Lord's help and leaning upon him and
[10:15] his strength you learn how to overcome
[10:18] them because that's part of the trick of
[10:21] the training that's part of your
[10:23] preparation and you you may not know it
[10:25] but one day you're gonna look back and
[10:27] realize that was a part of God's shaping
[10:30] you and molding you and making you and
[10:33] preparing you from what he has for you
[10:35] one day so listen to me you be faithful
[10:38] now be faithful with the solitude be
[10:40] faithful in obscurity and be faithful
[10:43] with the real-life challenges that you
[10:45] face because I promise you today just
[10:47] like all those many years ago when God
[10:50] was looking for somebody he can use and
[10:52] he found that yeah that that person he
[10:54] found that to be David listen in 2020
[10:58] when God looks at your neighborhood and
[11:00] in your city and in your church and he's
[11:02] looking for somebody that he can use
[11:04] he's looking for somebody that is
[11:06] spiritual he's looking for somebody
[11:08] that's hung
[11:08] maybe it's looking for somebody that is
[11:11] faithful now let's be honest God's gonna
[11:13] have a hard time using somebody that's
[11:15] not spiritual
[11:16] that's not humble and it's not faithful
[11:19] and I hope that won't be the case with
[11:22] you and I maybe God's challenge your
[11:24] heart maybe you felt convicted over
[11:26] these with these thoughts that we've
[11:28] shared and seen from God's Word and you
[11:32] say well there's an area in my life that
[11:33] that doesn't line up with a kind of
[11:36] maybe person God is looking for then ask
[11:39] the Lord to help you to change those
[11:40] areas and the strengths and those areas
[11:42] of your life and say Lord I want to be a
[11:45] man or a woman after your own heart I
[11:47] want my life to be in harmony with you
[11:49] Lord I want to be I want to be spiritual
[11:52] Oh Lord I want to be humble and Lord
[11:54] even I I never want to get too big to do
[11:57] the little things Lord keep me humble
[11:58] help me just be a humble servant of
[12:01] yours and lord help me to be faithful
[12:03] even if nobody else knows who I am
[12:05] even though if no one else knows what I
[12:07] what I do except for you lord help me to
[12:10] just be faithful lord help me in my
[12:12] solitude to walk with you and draw
[12:14] closer to you then Lord whatever
[12:15] challenges come my way Lord would you
[12:18] help me just to be faithful to overcome
[12:21] those challenges because I know that
[12:23] you're prepared me for something greater
[12:25] on one day friend I hope these have been
[12:27] encouragement to you these thoughts from
[12:29] God's Word and I want you to know how
[12:31] Bible Baptist friends that we are
[12:33] praying for you we're cheering for you
[12:35] and I want you to know that we look
[12:37] forward to seeing you here soon and so
[12:40] on Lord bless you we'll see you soon in
[12:42] the days of head thank you so much
