[0:03] >> From ABC, this is World News Tonight
[0:06] with Peter [music] Jennings.
[0:08] >> Good evening. These are some of the
[0:09] developments on day 29 of the war. The
[0:11] bodies of more civilians, nearly 300 of
[0:13] them now, have been brought out of that
[0:14] shelter that was bombed in Baghdad.
[0:17] The Pentagon briefer again expressed his
[0:18] sorrow for the loss of civilian life,
[0:20] but insisted again it was a military
[0:23] target.
[0:24] The US lost another plane overnight. Its
[0:26] two crewmen were killed. But overall,
[0:29] the view from the US high command today
[0:30] reflects a very confident mood. We begin
[0:33] with ABC's Bill Redeker in Saudi Arabia.
[0:39] >> US military officials today said they
[0:41] had experienced such great success in
[0:43] the air during the past few days that
[0:45] allied war planes have now taken out 1/3
[0:48] of all Iraqi armor, artillery, and tanks
[0:51] in Kuwait and southern Iraq. 1,300
[0:54] tanks, 800 armored vehicles, 1,100
[0:58] artillery pieces, more than double the
[1:00] number reported 1 week ago.
[1:03] The British, who displayed gun sight
[1:04] video, said more than half of the 600
[1:07] hardened aircraft shelters on their
[1:08] target list had been bombed.
[1:11] >> That attack was successful. It will have
[1:13] been a direct hit.
[1:15] And as we move across, you just get some
[1:17] idea of the sort of scale. This is one
[1:20] corner of an airfield.
[1:22] >> US pilots today prepared for their part
[1:24] in the campaign, bombing defensive
[1:26] positions or revetments in Kuwait.
[1:29] >> There must be 70 80 revetments right up
[1:30] in there.
[1:31] Uh probably half of them have things in
[1:33] it.
[1:34] So, I'm just planning on going back
[1:35] there.
[1:36] >> Okay.
