[0:55] Reporting from Washington, Elizabeth
[0:58] Vargas.
[0:59] >> Good evening from Washington. It's been
[1:00] a very busy day here. We'll get to the
[1:02] fireworks at the crucial confirmation
[1:04] hearings for Judge John Roberts in a
[1:06] moment, but first President Bush was
[1:08] here at the White House today after
[1:10] returning from the hurricane zone. For
[1:12] the first time, he took ultimate
[1:14] responsibility for the federal
[1:16] government's failures in the wake of
[1:18] Katrina. Mr. Bush also admitted what
[1:21] people all over the country have been
[1:22] saying for the last 2 weeks, namely that
[1:24] there are serious problems with the way
[1:26] the government responds to disasters.
[1:29] Our White House correspondent Terry
[1:31] Moran is traveling with the president
[1:32] and joins us from New York. And Terry,
[1:34] that was an extraordinary admission.
