[0:10] This is NBC Nightly News reporting from
[0:13] New York. Jessica Savage.
[0:15] >> Good evening. A new word has been added
[0:17] to describe the devastation of West
[0:19] Beirut. Massacre. Hundreds of men,
[0:22] women, and children were shot to death
[0:24] in West Beirut Palestinian refugee
[0:26] camps. at slaughter apparently by
[0:28] Lebanese Christian militia men given
[0:30] control of those camps by the advancing
[0:32] Israeli army. Eyewitnesses called the
[0:34] scene horrifying and the following

[1:18] blew up in the street. Through an
[1:20] interpreter, he says the militia thought
[1:21] he was dead or badly wounded.
[1:25] They left us on the ground like this. No
[1:28] one looked at us.
[1:30] >> At a nearby sports stadium today,
[1:32] several hundred Palestinian men were
[1:33] being held by Israeli soldiers for
[1:35] questioning about terrorist activities
[1:37] here. Frightened women wanted them
[1:39] released for fear they'd fall into the
[1:41] hands of the Christian militia. A
[1:43] soldier said tha
