[7:15] be in heaven over one sinner that

[7:19] repenteth more than over

[7:21] 99 just persons which need no repentance

[7:27] and then in verse 10 likewise I say unto

[7:30] you there is joy in the presence of the

[7:33] angels of God over one sinner that

[7:39] repenteth so the Pharisees and scribes

[7:42] are

[7:43] upset that he's ministering to

[7:46] Sinners so tonight we're going to preach

[7:48] a message entitled Hallelujah for

[7:51] Sinners so let's go to the Lord in

[7:53] prayer tonight Heavenly Father Lord I

[7:55] Thank you for the opportunity to preach

[7:56] your word tonight Lord I pray that You'

[7:59] help us tonight as we dive into your

[8:00] word to see

[8:02] ourselves in the text tonight Lord I

[8:05] pray that you would please bind Satan

[8:07] and keep him far from this place Lord I

[8:10] pray that you'd work mightily in our

[8:12] hearts and lives Lord we're thankful for

[8:15] you we're thankful that you Sav Sinners

[8:18] and Lord tonight as we go through out

[8:20] our time this evening May everything

[8:22] that's said and done truly bring honor

[8:25] and glory to you in your name I pray

[8:36] seated he begins in Luke

[8:40] 15 talking to us about the Sinners the

[8:45] publicans and it's a good thing when

[8:47] Sinners and publicans want to come see

[8:50] Jesus it's a really exciting thing that

[8:53] happens

[8:54] here but in verse two the

[8:57] Pharisees and the

[8:59] [Music]

[9:01] murmured and they murmured saying this

[9:03] man receiveth Sinners and he eateth with

[9:06] him whatever what is Jesus supposed to

[9:09] do say Sinners go

[9:12] away he's receiving Sinners the Bible

[9:16] tells us he came to seek and to save

[9:19] that which was

[9:21] lost now the timeline of Luke 15 this is

[9:24] in the last three months of Jesus's

[9:27] Earthly Ministry he's three months mon

[9:29] away from the cross he's in that last

[9:31] three months time frame so he's almost

[9:34] to Calvary which is what he came to do

[9:38] he came to redeem

[9:40] Mankind and so he's he's on his journey

[9:44] to the cross and here in Luke 15 he's

[9:47] still teaching and we find him taking

[9:50] the Pharisees and the scribes and he

[9:52] begins to teach them so there's there's

[9:55] two groups of people primarily that he's

[9:57] teaching in Luke 15 in Luke 16 he

[10:00] Transitions and he focuses more on his

[10:03] disciples we see that in Luke 16 verse1

[10:06] if you turn over there and he says and

[10:08] he said also unto his disciples so the

[10:12] disciples are there but he's directing

[10:15] his teaching in Luke 15 at the two

[10:18] groups that are there the Pharisees and

[10:21] scribes the publicans and sinners so the

[10:24] first Parable he uses is about the Sheep

[10:28] a man having aund sheep and he loses one

[10:31] does he not go look for the one and when

[10:33] he finds the one he rejoices and then he

[10:36] emphasizes in verse seven the rejoicing

[10:39] that comes in heaven then over Sinners

[10:42] that get re repenteth and so he's

[10:45] excited about that and then in verse 8

[10:48] through verse 10 he uses the parable now

[10:51] we've gone from 100 and to one to 10 to

[10:55] one so he talks about a lady who's lost

[10:58] 10 coins and she's lost one and she

[11:01] diligently searches and then when she

[11:04] finds it she

[11:05] rejoices in verse 10 likewise I say unto

[11:08] you there's joy in the presence of the

[11:11] angels of God over one sinner that

[11:15] repenteth and then he comes down to one

[11:17] of his most famous Parables the parable

[11:21] of the prodal

[11:23] son at least that's what we call it

[11:25] often the parable of the prodical

[11:27] son and so

[11:29] begins this Parable we've gone from 100

[11:32] to one to 10 to one now it's two to

[11:36] one he keeps shrinking it down to get

[11:39] the focus of the people so in verse

[11:42] number 11 which is our text for tonight

[11:45] he says this a certain man had two sons

[11:50] two sons the younger of them said to his

[11:53] father father give me the portion of

[11:55] goods that fall to me and he divided

[11:58] unto them

[11:59] his living there's three characters in

[12:03] our text tonight we have the prodal we

[12:05] have the elder brother and we have the

[12:08] father now in in our Parable teaching we

[12:12] understand that God is using an Earthly

[12:14] story to illustrate a Heavenly purpose

[12:17] or a Heavenly

[12:18] meaning and so the father represents the

[12:22] Lord the prodical son represents a

[12:25] couple different groups the first one he

[12:28] represents is the prodical son but also

[12:31] publicans and

[12:33] sinners because that's who he's talking

[12:35] to they cannot see themselves in the

[12:38] prodal

[12:39] sons another possible allegorical group

[12:42] that he's pointing to futurewise is

[12:45] Gentiles who will believe on Jesus and

[12:48] come to faith in Christ in the future

[12:51] church and so there's a an illusion to

[12:54] the Gentiles in the future church and

[12:58] then even up to today lost Sinners can

[13:01] identify with the prodal

[13:03] son so we're going to look at the three

[13:06] groups that identify with the prodal

[13:08] tonight publicans and sinners Gentiles

[13:11] in the future Church from this time

[13:13] forward and then also lost Sinners so

[13:17] let's look at it verse 12 the younger of

[13:20] them said to his father father give me

[13:21] the portion of goods that fall to me and

[13:24] he divided unto them his

[13:27] living didn't argue

[13:30] didn't try to convince him

[13:32] otherwise he gave

[13:37] him God lets men get what they ask

[13:41] for but they might not like what they

[13:45] get God will let you have what you want

[13:48] but you may not like what you

[13:51] get and so we find here in verse 12 he

[13:55] divides the portion of goods verse 13

[13:57] not many days after the younger son

[13:59] gathered all together and took his

[14:02] journey into a

[14:05] far substance with rius living so the

[14:12] prodal son takes off he leaves and goes

[14:16] into a far country the country is not

[14:18] named but anywhere away from the nation

[14:21] of Israel was considered a far

[14:23] country and was considered a worldly

[14:26] place so they Journey away from father

[14:31] away from home he goes into a far

[14:35] country now he could have traveled North

[14:38] and gone up to to a region and then

[14:41] traveled on a boat over and gotten into

[14:43] Rome and the worldliness of Rome or he

[14:47] could have traveled south and traveled

[14:49] over to Egypt and messed around in the

[14:51] things of Egypt But whichever place he

[14:54] went it's not just the distance of the

[14:58] miles but but the distance of his

[15:01] heart his heart got

[15:04] away from the father he traveled into a

[15:07] far country and there wasted his

[15:10] substance with rius living the word rius

[15:13] living there having a a a meaning of

[15:16] wickedness and

[15:18] carnality so he wasted his substance

[15:20] with riotous living in verse 14 when he

[15:23] had spent

[15:24] all when the money runs out the fun runs

[15:27] out

[15:29] and when he had spent all there arose a

[15:32] mighty famine in that land and he began

[15:35] to be in

[15:37] want he journeyed to the far country and

[15:40] he had

[15:41] fun and then he ran out of money and

[15:44] when he had no funds he had no

[15:47] fun the money ran out and now he's he's

[15:51] a little upset he's out of money but

[15:54] also the Bible says There Rose a famine

[15:57] in that land

[16:00] did you notice that in your Bible it's

[16:02] in that land it's where he's

[16:05] at and so God God let him go and he went

[16:09] where he wanted to go but now that he's

[16:14] there and he's lost all his money God

[16:17] brings a famine in the

[16:20] land and he began to be in one verse 15

[16:23] and he went and joined himself to a

[16:25] citizen of that country and he sent him

[16:28] into his field to feed

[16:31] swine and he would have Fain have filled

[16:34] his belly with a hus that the swine did

[16:36] eat and no man gave unto

[16:39] him it's in a pretty sad

[16:42] predicament especially knowing the

[16:44] audience the publicans the Sinners the

[16:46] Pharisees the

[16:48] scribes their Jewish descent they don't

[16:52] want anything to do with

[16:54] pigs but this man because of his journey

[16:57] to a far country

[16:59] he's now having to work for

[17:02] swine he's now having to feed the

[17:05] swine it's interesting because the

[17:08] nation of Israel called gentile people

[17:11] pigs they didn't like

[17:14] them they had a societal distaste for

[17:17] gentile

[17:20] people so he feeds the swine and he Fain

[17:23] would have filled his belly he would

[17:24] have ate the pig food

[17:29] but notice verse 17 and when he came to

[17:33] himself he said how many hired Servants

[17:35] of my fathers have bread enough to spare

[17:39] and I perish with

[17:42] Hunger he had that moment where he came

[17:44] to

[17:46] himself and he realized where he was at

[17:50] and he realized where he could go to the

[17:53] father so he recognizes where he's at

[17:56] and he says Verse 18 I will arise and go

[17:58] to my father father and I will say unto

[18:00] him father I have sinned against heaven

[18:03] and before thee and are no more worthy

[18:06] to be called thy son make me as one of

[18:09] thy hired servants so that's what he's

[18:11] thinking I'm gonna go back to the

[18:14] father I'm going to tell him I'm not

[18:16] worthy to be a

[18:18] son I'm going to ask to be hired by him

[18:23] so he starts his journey back

[18:26] home I wonder what his thoughts are like

[18:31] the

[18:33] shame

[18:35] embarrassment because he knows where

[18:37] he's been and he knows what he's

[18:42] done so he

[18:44] arose verse 20 and came to his

[18:52] father so he takes off back to come to a

[18:58] place of of recognizing Dad I've I'm not

[19:02] worthy to be called son I've have

[19:04] sinned I have sinned against thee

[19:07] against heaven and before thee I've

[19:09] sinned against

[19:10] God not worthy to be your

[19:14] son so maybe as he first takes off he's

[19:18] excited about journeying back home but

[19:21] as he gets

[19:22] closer

[19:24] closer under the fear and dread that

[19:27] begin to come into to his heart cuz he's

[19:30] going to see Dad

[19:33] again he remembers what he said last

[19:36] time to

[19:39] Dad so as he's coming over the last

[19:44] Hill getting ready to come down into the

[19:48] father's

[19:51] land there's a buttwind

[19:54] moment and I want to draw your attention

[19:57] there's two of them in this text

[19:59] to buttwind moments and it changes from

[20:02] the prodal to the

[20:05] father so look at if you would in verse

[20:07] 20 he arose and came to his father but

[20:11] when he was yet a great way off his

[20:15] father saw him and had compassion and

[20:20] ran and fell on his neck and kissed

[20:26] him I I to think about that for a

[20:31] moment the father saw

[20:36] him my humble opinion I believe the

[20:38] father was looking for

[20:41] him he was hoping and praying for

[20:46] him and so he sees him but when the

[20:49] father saw him he's coming back with his

[20:52] head down he's coming back in a feeling

[20:54] of I am not worthy to be called my son

[20:57] but the father saw him and when the

[21:01] father saw him he ran to him and he fell

[21:05] on him and he kissed

[21:07] him and in the moment of the excitement

[21:11] of the father putting his hands around

[21:13] him and loving on him this is what the

[21:15] son says verse

[21:17] 21 the son said unto him

[21:20] father I have sinned against heaven and

[21:24] in thy sight and am no more worthy to be

[21:28] called thy

[21:31] son that's where he's

[21:34] at I'm not worthy to be called thy son I

[21:37] have

[21:37] sinned and you can't get found until you

[21:40] get

[21:43] lost says I have sinned I'm not worthy

[21:45] to be called thy son look at verse

[21:48] 22 but the father

[21:52] said now the son said one thing but the

[21:57] father said something else

[21:59] let's look at what the father says verse

[22:01] 22 father said to his servants bring

[22:04] forth the best robe and put it on him

[22:10] because evidently he didn't have a robe

[22:12] on and put a ring on his hand and shoes

[22:17] on his feet because evidently he didn't

[22:19] have shoes

[22:23] on and bring hither the fatted calf and

[22:26] kill it and let us e

[22:29] and be married for this my son was dead

[22:32] and is alive again he was lost and is

[22:37] found that's the sentence the father

[22:40] said the son comes back I've sinned

[22:43] against thee I'm not worthy to be called

[22:45] the Son and the father said uh get the

[22:48] fatted calf get the robe get the ring

[22:51] get the shoes my son was lost and now

[22:53] he's

[22:55] found cuz you got a but when the father

[22:58] said moment so we had but when the

[23:01] father saw him now we have but when the

[23:04] father

[23:06] said and they begin to be

[23:11] married now it been interesting if the

[23:15] parable stopped

[23:17] there now we know the rest of the

[23:20] parable many of us do but we got to go

[23:22] back into it remember the group of

[23:24] people he's talking to he's not just

[23:26] speaking the parable to speak the

[23:27] parable

[23:29] there's a group of publicans and sinners

[23:31] that have come to hear Jesus and there's

[23:34] a group of Pharisees and scribes that

[23:36] are upset that those people came to see

[23:41] Jesus now who do they who do we say they

[23:44] relate to the publicans and the Sinners

[23:47] the prodical

[23:48] son so here they came here they came

[23:51] from sin earlier in the day here they

[23:54] came with dirty pigs stuff on them

[23:59] not physically but spiritually the

[24:01] stains of sin and the stench of sin is

[24:04] on them but now they're hearing from

[24:08] Jesus that the father sees

[24:11] them and the father says to them what

[24:15] was lost can be

[24:18] found what do you think the publicans

[24:20] and sinners faces look

[24:23] like do you think there was some

[24:27] Smiles do you think there was some joy

[24:30] that that could be

[24:33] me I I see myself there that could be me

[24:38] I wonder what the Pharisees and scribes

[24:40] were

[24:42] doing arms

[24:44] crossed

[24:46] upset he came to be with publicans and

[24:51] Sinners and eat with

[24:53] them but Jesus didn't stop the parable

[24:57] there the message for the publicans and

[24:59] sinners say come home to the father you

[25:03] can be forgiven you can be cleansed you

[25:06] can be made

[25:07] new verse

[25:09] 25 now when his Elder son was in the

[25:16] field as he came and Drew nigh to the

[25:19] house he heard music and

[25:23] dancing so now we've switched we had the

[25:26] prodical son we had the father now we've

[25:29] got the Elder son or the other

[25:32] brother the Elder son represents the

[25:35] Elder son in the parable but also the

[25:38] Pharisees and the

[25:40] scribes the elder brother also

[25:42] represents the religious Jews as a

[25:46] whole they still don't like gentile

[25:51] people but also there's another group

[25:55] there represented in seen of us is

[25:59] self-righteous

[26:02] people so Watch What Happens the

[26:04] Pharisees and scribes the religious Jews

[26:07] and the self-righteous

[26:10] people this is what happens

[26:13] here the elder brother hears the music

[26:16] he called one of the servants and asked

[26:18] what these things

[26:20] meant he said unto him thy brother is

[26:23] come thy father hath killed the fatted

[26:25] calf because he ha received him SA and

[26:29] sound and he was what's your Bible say

[26:37] what why is he angry well let's see what

[26:42] says and would not go in therefore came

[26:46] his father out and intreated him and he

[26:49] answering said to his father Lo these

[26:53] many years do I serve thee neither

[26:58] transgressed I at any time thy

[27:02] commandment and yet thou never gavest me

[27:06] a kid that I might make marry with my

[27:14] friends he's

[27:16] angry because he didn't get to have a

[27:20] party he's angry because he feels as he

[27:23] goes on he gets into detail look what he

[27:25] says but as soon as this thy son was

[27:29] come which hath devoured thy living with

[27:34] harlots thou Hast killed the fatted

[27:38] calf how'd he know

[27:42] that you ever wondered that how did he

[27:46] know how his brother spent his

[27:50] money the Bible tells us he used it on

[27:53] riotous

[27:55] living evidently this brother thought he

[27:57] used it on

[27:58] Harlot as

[28:02] possible but his attitude is that Dad

[28:06] you never gave me a party you never

[28:08] recognized me I have served Thee I have

[28:11] been here I've done all this Dad and

[28:14] you've never thrown me a

[28:17] party you've never done anything for

[28:23] me but that son there's the Pharisees

[28:26] that one that thy son came

[28:31] back and because he came back you killed

[28:34] the fatty calf for

[28:36] him verse 31 he said unto him son thou

[28:39] art ever with me and all that I have is

[28:44] thine everything I have is

[28:46] yours it was me that we should make

[28:49] Merry and be glad for this thy brother

[28:52] was dead and is alive again and was lost

[28:55] and is found so he says to the elder

[29:00] brother who represents the Pharisees and

[29:02] scribes and the religious Jews in the

[29:05] future who by the way when you get to

[29:07] the book of Acts are really going to

[29:08] struggle with Gentiles being saved with

[29:12] Gentiles wanting to be part of the

[29:13] church they're really going to struggle

[29:15] with that and they're going to have some

[29:17] hatred and they're going to cause some

[29:19] problems and so in a future picture he

[29:22] is illustrating that they're going to

[29:24] struggle with this here very soon

[29:28] and you fast forward today sometimes

[29:31] people get upset when Sinners get

[29:37] right or when Sinners don't get right as

[29:41] fast as they think they should get

[29:45] right so the elder brother gets

[29:48] upset and the father says to him

[29:52] son you're my son too thou art ever with

[29:57] me and all that I have is nine even the

[30:00] illusion to the nation of Israel and

[30:03] their future God's got a plan for them

[30:05] he didn't just throw them out because

[30:07] they rejected Jesus he has a plan for

[30:10] them in the future there's a future plan

[30:12] for the nation of Israel there's still

[30:14] God's chosen people he didn't just cast

[30:16] them out just because they didn't

[30:19] rejected Jesus at one time he still has

[30:21] a great plan for him but he ought to

[30:23] rejoice in the fact that his brother was

[30:25] lost and now is found

[30:32] so here's the interesting

[31:28] the adoption of sons and because you are

[31:32] Sons God has sent forth the spirit of

[31:35] his son into your hearts crying ABA

[31:43] servant but a son and if a son then an

[31:52] Christ he writes to the Church of

[31:56] galatia right

[33:48] amen we ought to we ought to be just as

[33:52] excited when we got saved we ought to be

[33:55] just as excited for somebody else

[33:56] getting saved

[34:01] one of the things that'll bring

[34:03] excitement to a church is seeing people

[34:07] saved now we talked about Sunday being

[34:10] in the spiritual warfare that we're in

[34:12] we ought to be using the the tool the

[34:15] weapon of

[34:17] prayer we ought to be praying for people

[34:20] to be saved it ought to be a regular

[34:23] occurrence in your prayer life I'm

[34:25] looking forward to Sunday we're looking

[34:28] forward to preaching the message God's

[34:30] put on my heart for Sunday morning

[34:31] getting us ready for having an a

[34:33] missions Focus over the next few weeks

[34:35] and I'm excited about what God's put on

[34:38] my heart to preach and it'll I'm gonna

[34:45] pray for a burden for Souls that's the

[34:49] title of the message Sunday come back

[35:05] business and we're to be

[35:09] rejoicing you notice that in Luke 15

[35:12] there's not a verse that says the elder

[35:15] brother

[35:20] rejoiced doesn't record for us how he

[35:24] responded the parable leaves

[35:28] with it was meat that we should Rejoice

[35:30] cuz he was lost and now he's found he

[35:32] was dead and now he's alive and nothing

[35:35] else

[35:38] happened we don't know if the elder

[35:40] brother starts rejoicing we don't know

[35:43] the elder brother says Dad it's not

[35:47] happening we don't know his

[35:49] response but let's remember the crowd

[35:52] that he's talking to the Pharisees and

[35:55] scribes they're not rejoicing over

[35:56] Sinners getting

[35:58] say they're stuck in their religious

[36:02] self-righteousness they're not rejoicing

[36:05] over people who were lost and are now

[36:07] found they're complaining that Jesus

[36:09] hangs out with

[36:11] them Jesus hangs around Sinners because

[36:15] Sinners need

[36:19] Jesus now you've heard us say it

[36:22] before that our church is not a museum

[36:25] for good people but a hospital for the

[36:29] broken you've heard it say it it's a

[36:31] hospital for sinners now I'm going to

[36:34] add to that statement tonight are you

[36:41] church we know we are a hospital for

[36:45] Sinners we know that but we sometimes

[36:49] can get on the wrong floor of the

[36:52] hospital there's two different floors in

[36:56] church life of the Church being a

[36:58] hospital for Sinners one is

[37:38] and there is this anxiety and Dread in

[37:42] hospital when you go one floor up on the

[37:47] elevator and you're still in the

[37:50] hospital but you walk out on that

[37:53] floor and the whole vibe is different

[37:58] there's people

[37:59] excited because there's people in the

[38:01] hospital having

[38:03] babies there's old men that are standing

[38:06] there saying that baby looks like me

[38:08] yeah baldheaded and wrinkled looks just

[38:10] like

[38:12] you there are people saying hey they've

[38:15] got my chin they got my eyes the they

[38:19] got their faces pressed up to the

[38:22] window looking in it's the same

[38:26] hospital just a different

[38:28] floor hey Church may we always be

[38:31] rejoicing of new people being saved may

[38:34] we always be rejoicing when we see

[38:36] Sinners Who start to take on the shape

[38:39] of the Savior Who start to notice in

[38:42] them hey they got the savior's face hey

[38:47] they're starting to talk like Jesus

[50:30] been saved for a week and a half it's

[50:32] it's going to be his turn to

[50:43] been saved for a week he's been cussing
