[0:02] The end came suddenly for Abu Musab al-
[0:05] Zarqawi. Iraq's most feared and most
[0:07] wanted terrorists literally never knew
[0:09] what hit him. After a frustrating hunt,
[0:11] coalition intelligence closed in and
[0:14] final tips led to the target. A safe
[0:16] house near Bakuba, just north of
[0:18] Baghdad. A pair of US jets dropped a
[0:21] pair of bombs as al Zarqawi met with
[0:24] associates from his al-Qaeda in Iraq
[0:27] group. Iraq's top insurgent Elzarqawi is
[0:30] believed to have personally beheaded an
[0:32] American hostage and to have inspired
[0:34] attacks which have killed thousands in
[0:36] Iraq. The end came yesterday for
[0:38] Elzarqawi. It was first [music]
[0:40] announced today after the body was
[0:42] identified and after coalition forces
[0:45] carried out 17 simultaneous raids around
[0:48] Baghdad. Commanders say a treasure trove
[0:50] of information was collected. The
[0:53] official word came amid jubilation in
[0:55] Baghdad. CNN's John Voss is in the Iraqi
[0:58] capital.
[1:03] >> Today, Zalawi was eliminated, said the
[1:06] Iraqi prime minister, [applause]
[1:09] and a room filled with reporters, mostly
[1:11] Iraqi, broke into cheers and applause.
[1:17] >> There were celebrations on the streets
[1:18] of Baghdad. As word spread, the man
[1:21] called the prince of al-Qaeda was dead.
[1:26] The announcement of the death of Zqawi
[1:28] is good news for all Iraqis, said this
[1:30] man. God willing, security will prevail.
[1:34] But with the death of Iraq's most wanted
[1:36] came words of caution.
[1:38] >> Zarqawi's death
[1:40] will not by itself
[1:43] end the violence in Iraq,
[1:47] but it is an important step
[1:51] in the right direction. A bloody
[1:53] reminder of that violence came hours
[1:55] earlier.
