[13:14] forward to starting that this next week

[13:17] and allowing the Lord I do apologize the

[13:19] printer put it upside down print for me

[14:15] encouragement we'd appreciate that and

[14:17] so if you have your Bibles we're going

[14:18] to springboard text off at Matthew so

[14:21] stand with me if you're able Matthew

[14:24] chapter number 16 tonight Matthew

[14:26] chapter number 16 we're going to read

[14:28] verses 13- 18 and then we'll have a word

[14:33] of prayer and then we'll dive in

[14:35] tonight Matthew

[14:38] 1613 if you're there say

[14:41] Amen all right when Jesus came into the

[14:44] coast of cesaria Philippi he asked his

[14:46] disciples saying whom do men say that I

[14:49] am the son of man am and they said some

[14:53] say thou art John the Baptist some Elias

[14:55] others Jeremiah or one of the prophets

[14:58] he sayi un him but whom say ye that I am

[15:02] and Simon Peter answered and said Thou

[15:04] Art the Christ the son of the Living God

[15:07] Jesus answered and said unto him blessed

[15:09] art thou Simon bar Jonah for Flesh and

[15:11] Blood hath not revealed it unto thee but

[15:13] my Father which is in heaven and I say

[15:15] also unto thee that thou art Peter and

[15:19] Upon This Rock I will build my church

[15:20] and the Gates of Hell shall not Prevail

[15:23] against it it's an important statement

[15:26] there he's building the church

[15:29] and he's the one that's the foundation

[15:32] for the church so we're going to talk

[15:34] about that and then we're going to talk

[15:35] about this subject tonight why

[15:38] Baptist why Baptist so it'll be a

[15:42] combination teaching preaching session

[15:45] tonight all right let's go to the Lord

[15:46] in prayer to Heavenly Father Lord we're

[15:48] thankful the opportunity to be in your

[15:49] house we're thankful for Jesus Christ

[15:52] and he's the rock on which our lives are

[15:54] built upon and we're thankful for him

[15:56] and Lord we pray tonight as we preach

[15:58] and teach your word Lord that everything

[16:00] that's said and done will bring honor

[16:02] and glory to you Lord I pray you'd help

[16:04] us tonight to uh be able to be an

[16:07] encouragement and a help Lord I pray if

[16:09] you would please cleanse me of sin and

[16:11] empty me of myself that I might get out

[16:13] of the way tonight and your word may

[16:15] truly be centner stag tonight in your

[16:18] name I pray amen thank you for standing

[16:20] you may be

[16:25] seated helps if I turn that on too all

[16:27] right so let's go ahead and head to that

[16:30] first slide if you would there

[16:33] Canton all right why Baptist we read in

[16:37] Matthew 16: 13-1 18 Jesus asked his

[16:42] disciples the people closest to him whom

[16:44] do men say that I the son of man am and

[16:49] they said and they answered some said

[16:51] the John the Baptist Elias other

[16:53] Jeremiah or one of the prophets then he

[16:56] asked him the

[16:57] question but whom say ye that I am

[17:01] because Jesus is personal he's a

[17:03] personal Savior and he wants to have a

[17:05] personal relationship with people and he

[17:07] wants you to have watch this personal

[17:09] beliefs about who he is he doesn't want

[17:12] you just to have a statement that you

[17:16] don't you don't make personal to you he

[17:19] doesn't want it just to be something

[17:21] that is a catechism that you repeat but

[17:24] he wants to you to know what he says in

[17:26] his word about himself about his church

[17:30] and about the things of God and so

[17:32] tonight we're going to do our best to

[17:33] dive into that and we got a couple guys

[17:35] out there if you still need outlines for

[17:37] tonight or one an outline raise your

[17:38] hand we had some come in the guys will

[17:40] get them to you so we talked about Jesus

[17:43] here he's the foundation so Simon Peter

[17:46] answered and this is one of Simon

[17:48] Peter's really good

[17:51] moments sometimes Simon opens his mouth

[17:53] and puts his foot in it but in this

[17:56] moment he did really good you know why

[17:58] he did really really good it's a good

[17:59] lesson it says that the Lord revealed it

[18:01] unto him I guess we could say it this

[18:03] way God's influence affected what Peter

[18:09] said and God's influence in our lives

[18:11] will affect what we

[18:13] say Amen it really will if you're led by

[18:16] the spirit you'll talk differently and

[18:18] you'll respond differently than if you

[18:20] just let it go however you feel like and

[18:23] so he says Thou Art the Christ the son

[18:26] of the Living God Jesus answered he

[18:29] tells him blessed art thou and he gets

[18:31] into this next part Verse 18 and I say

[18:33] also unto thee Thou Art Peter and Upon

[18:36] This Rock I will build my church and the

[18:39] Gates of Hell shall not Prevail against

[18:41] it now people struggle with Verse 18

[18:44] because the word

[18:46] Peter has a a his name means Pebble or

[18:50] stone and so people assume that Jesus is

[18:54] talking about Peter that Peter's the

[18:56] foundation of the church that's not not

[18:59] the foundation of the church that's what

[19:01] the Catholic Church claims is that Peter

[19:03] is the foundation of the church but

[19:05] Peter's not the foundation of the church

[19:07] the statement previously listed in verse

[19:10] 16 Thou Art the Christ the son of the

[19:14] Living God that is the

[19:16] foundation of the church that's what the

[19:19] church was built on it was built on

[19:21] Jesus by Jesus look at Verse 18 He says

[19:25] this is the rock I will build my church

[19:28] and and the Gates of Hell shall not

[19:30] Prevail against it and so Jesus Built

[19:35] his church let's see if this will work

[19:37] if not K you're gonna work hard tonight

[19:39] press that button for me back

[19:42] there we'll see if it

[19:45] works this remote does not want to

[19:47] cooperate make sure that going to check

[19:50] on that Brother Sam for me back

[19:52] there see if we can get that fixed

[19:54] there's that Jesus Built his church go

[19:56] ahead hit the next one I don't want to

[19:57] have to say hit the next one all night

[19:59] long with the first baptized Believers

[20:02] of John the Baptist so I put some verses

[20:05] There For You Luke 1:17 John 1 35-37 and

[20:09] acts 1

[20:11] 21-22 all right and here's some

[20:13] interesting facts about the church that

[20:16] Jesus started Jesus started the church

[20:18] with his disciples they were the first

[20:21] members so look at Luke 17 I want to hit

[20:23] a few of these verses and then we'll

[20:25] move on Luke 1 verse number 17

[20:31] Luke 1 ver1 17 he shall go before him in

[20:34] the spirit and power of Elias to turn

[20:35] the hearts of the fathers to the

[20:37] children of the disobedient to the

[20:39] wisdom of the just to make ready a

[20:42] people prepared for

[20:44] the Lord so the first baptized Believers

[20:48] Luke 1:17 John 1 135 through 37 then

[20:51] acts 1:21 and 22 were baptized under

[20:54] John the Baptist became some of the

[20:56] first members of the church Church there

[20:59] and so Jesus started the church with his

[21:02] disciples while he was on the

[21:06] earth Jesus started the church with his

[21:09] disciples while he was on the earth

[21:12] that's an important statement of truth

[21:15] that we need to hang on to and so here's

[21:18] some interesting facts about the church

[21:19] that Jesus started in John 10:11 Jesus

[21:22] is described as the shepherd uh that's

[21:25] the word poine it's a definition for

[21:27] pastor so they had a pastor uh the

[21:30] disciples were organized they had a

[21:32] Treasurer we know who he was they

[21:36] preached Matthew 10: 5-7 Luke 9 1-6 Luke

[21:40] 10 1-9 the disciples baptized believers

[21:45] they didn't just baptize people they

[21:47] baptized Believers and that became part

[21:50] of the first church they observed the

[21:51] Lord's Supper Mark 1413 through 26 they

[21:55] conducted a business meeting acts 1:15

[21:58] through2 6 when they appointed another

[22:00] disciple Matias they prayed about it and

[22:02] they sought the counsel of those and

[22:05] they appointed him and then in Acts 241

[22:08] everyone turn there acts

[22:10] [Music]

[22:13] 241 now you got to hang with me because

[22:16] I didn't give you all the notes because

[22:18] you'll notice there's a page that just

[22:20] has a bunch of

[22:21] lines the reason for that is we got

[22:25] extra stuff as well that we'll talk

[22:26] about when we get to that section

[22:29] acts chap 2 verse 41 I suggest if you

[22:32] underline verses you underline this

[22:34] verse in your Bible Acts 2:41 then they

[22:39] that gladly received his word were

[22:41] baptized and the same day they were

[22:44] what's the next two

[22:45] words added unto them now I'm not a

[22:50] professional Math Elite but I'm pretty

[22:55] sure if you're going to add something to

[22:57] something there has has to be something

[22:59] to add to you say what about zero we're

[23:02] not talking about zero we're talking

[23:04] about a church in order to add people to

[23:06] a church there had to be a church to add

[23:09] them

[23:12] to come on in order to add people to a

[23:16] church there had to be a church already

[23:18] there for them to be added to the church

[23:21] did not start on the day of Pentecost

[23:24] the church was empowered on the day of

[23:26] Pentecost with 3,000 people getting

[23:28] saved on that day but the church was

[23:30] already in existence it was already

[23:33] there and so the things we've listed

[23:34] here are some good things to remember

[23:36] about Jesus and his church he also he

[23:39] commissioned the church in Matthew

[23:41] 28:18-20 Mark 16:15 Luke 24:27 and John

[23:46] 20 verse 211 and this is what he gave

[23:48] him to do to evangelize baptize and

[23:51] teach now who has the authority to

[23:53] baptize it's the church who gave him

[23:55] that authority Jesus

[23:56] did so Jesus gave the authority of

[23:59] church to baptize now they are to

[24:01] evangelize baptize and teach he

[24:03] commissioned the church to do that so

[24:06] now why is it so important that the

[24:09] church started before Pentecost why is

[24:13] that so important you get something

[24:16] worked out

[24:17] there all

[24:20] right we're going to try a couple things

[24:22] here very good why is it so important

[24:25] that the church started before Pentecost

[24:27] the first note you have Universal Church

[24:31] you ever heard that term before The

[24:33] Universal Church believes that every

[24:37] Christian is part of an invisible church

[24:41] because the Holy Spirit lives in every

[24:44] Christian that is not what the Bible

[24:46] teaches the Bible teaches does not teach

[24:49] in Universal Church the Bible teaches in

[24:51] a visible local Assembly Church now

[24:56] there is a group of people called the

[24:59] bride of Christ that are all the saved

[25:02] people that have been saved during this

[25:05] dispensation of Grace they are all part

[25:07] of the bride of Christ but they're not

[25:09] all members of a church by the way if

[25:11] you're going to have a church you have

[25:12] to be

[25:13] organized you you have to have a pastor

[25:16] you have to have officers you have to

[25:18] have the working of the ministry taking

[25:20] place so all of that stuff has to be in

[25:23] existence it's not some invisible Church

[25:25] in the sky it is a a local visible

[25:29] church now one of the verses they use is

[25:33] they try to use these verses that we

[25:35] read here in Acts chapter 2 to say

[25:38] that's how everybody gets part of the

[25:40] church but that's not how everyone

[25:42] becomes part of the church it's always

[25:44] local and visible now unfortunately

[25:47] though also Christianity quote unquote

[25:50] as defined by the world has multiple

[25:54] denominations and

[25:56] organizations that have emerged since

[25:58] Jesus started the

[26:01] church through since Jesus Built his

[26:04] church since that time there have been

[26:06] multiple denominations that have come

[26:09] out of Jesus's church I want you to

[26:12] listen

[26:13] closely since Jesus started his church

[26:17] with his disciples while he was here

[26:19] upon the Earth before the day of

[26:21] Pentecost after that time there were

[26:24] many other denominations and

[26:26] organizations that came out of that well

[26:30] did Jesus say that that was going to

[26:31] happen well look in first John chapter

[26:34] 2 first John chapter 2 Under the

[26:38] inspiration of the

[26:40] Lord John writes what the Lord told him

[26:44] to write in 1 John Chapter 2 vers 19 and

[26:49] 20 1 John Chapter 2 vers 19 and

[26:54] 20 they went out from us but but they

[26:58] were not of us for if they had been of

[27:01] us they would no excuse me for if they

[27:04] had been of us they would no doubt have

[27:06] continued with us but they went out that

[27:08] they might be made manifest that they

[27:12] were not all of us but ye have an

[27:14] unction from the Holy One and ye know

[27:18] all things and so they came

[27:22] out they left the church that Jesus

[27:25] started they came out of that church

[27:28] because they were not of 1 Corinthians

[27:29] 14:33 talks about that more James 3:16

[27:33] and 2 Corinthians

[27:35] 4:4 now to the next page of the story

[27:39] flip it

[27:41] over all

[27:43] right the church that Jesus

[27:46] Built Jesus built the first

[27:49] church amen Jesus built the first church

[27:52] we had to lay the ground he built it he

[27:55] said he was going to build it he built

[27:56] it while he was on the Earth Jesus built

[27:58] the first church out of his church came

[28:01] New Testament churches the disciples

[28:04] went abroad and preached the gospel and

[28:08] as they went abroad Paul went out from

[28:10] the church and preached the gospel so

[28:12] the church sent out people to preach the

[28:15] gospel across the world from that came

[28:18] other New Testament churches now

[28:19] thankfully we're not doing church

[28:21] history tonight but you can go look at

[28:23] the book of Acts through Revelation

[28:25] chapter 3 and you can discover all the

[28:29] churches that came out of the church

[28:32] that Jesus Built so Jesus started the

[28:35] church and then out of his church came

[28:38] other New Testament churches all right

[28:40] next part of the slide we have the

[28:43] Christians they were called that in

[28:49] Antioch they are working on that for me

[28:51] all

[28:54] right I cannot see that back there so

[28:58] we'll see what happens up here all right

[29:00] so we've got the Christians that happen

[29:03] and then in first John it's loading oh

[29:06] that's how it goes all

[29:11] right very good thank you sir appreciate

[29:14] it so we have the church that Jesus

[29:16] Built don't you love it when technology

[29:17] doesn't work like you want it to and so

[29:20] on your paper you have the

[29:22] Christians you have the Christians and

[29:25] then from them first John chapter 2 vers

[29:28] vers 19-2 Al in

[29:30] ad100 started the Catholic Church the

[29:33] Catholic Church did not start with Jesus

[29:36] Peter was not the first pope he died

[29:38] before the Catholic Church even

[29:41] started so he can't be the first pope if

[29:43] he died before the church started so ad.

[29:47] 100 the Catholic Church came out now the

[29:50] Christians began to develop under new

[29:53] names the next name under the Christians

[29:55] happened in ad2 200 they're called the

[29:58] moneti if we can press that slide let's

[30:00] see what happens here we'll try this

[30:06] out give me a bunch of the same stuff

[30:08] hang on and it's loading loading

[30:12] loading I want to hit a button to see

[30:14] what happens here in a minute so we have

[30:16] the monst

[30:17] 8200 and then you'll notice there's a

[30:20] straight line down from the monst to the

[30:23] ad300 when you have the

[30:25] novs so the novs came in

[30:28] ad300 now the monst and the Nova got

[30:32] their Doctrine from the church that

[30:34] Jesus

[30:35] Built so the doctrine from the church

[30:38] that Jesus Built got passed down through

[30:40] the monst through the Nova through the

[30:43] dontist and

[30:44] ad400 through the waldensians in

[30:47] ad500 and then the anabaptist in

[30:51] ad600 now all of these had doctrine that

[30:54] very similar to what we believe is

[30:56] Baptist we could trace this back to our

[30:58] lineage now if you'll notice where you

[31:00] got Baptist at the end you can draw a

[31:02] straight line back up to the Christians

[31:05] and the church that Jesus Built all of

[31:07] that's there why we can trace our

[31:09] lineage all the way back to Jesus that's

[31:12] where our Doctrine comes from that's

[31:14] where our practices come from we do what

[31:17] we do because we can trace our lineage

[31:19] back to the church that Jesus Built in

[31:22] ad. 800 there was a split in Catholicism

[31:26] and the Roman Catholics separated ated

[31:28] from the Eastern Orthodox they separated

[31:31] in 800 over some doctrinal issues and

[31:34] you had two different groups Eastern

[31:36] Orthodox and Roman Catholicism that

[31:38] split apart in ad.

[31:41] 800 now 700 years go

[31:45] by before we get to the

[31:49] Protestants by the way you'll notice on

[31:51] your chart Protestants are on one side

[31:54] and Baptists are on another side there's

[31:56] a reason for that Baptists are not

[31:59] Protestants Baptists go all the way back

[32:02] to Jesus Protestants protested against

[32:05] the Catholic church and because of their

[32:08] protest they split into three groups

[32:11] over time out of the Catholic Church 700

[32:14] years afterwards so you have the

[32:16] Orthodox group that's where you get a

[32:18] lot of your Mainline

[32:20] denominations which are your Wesleyan

[32:23] your

[32:23] Lutheran um your Church of Christ some

[32:27] of those different Mainline

[32:29] denominations Martin Luther's group came

[32:32] out the Wesleyan with Charles Wesley the

[32:35] episcopalians came out uh they protested

[32:38] against the doctrine that the Catholic

[32:40] church was teaching and therefore came

[32:43] out of that Brother Sam this is not

[32:45] cooperating with me at all and so it

[32:47] just keeps loading it may be just too

[32:49] far from there and so we go all the way

[32:52] down to the end of the chart are we all

[32:53] the way up there located on that chart

[32:55] all right good and so out of The Middle

[32:57] group is the piest group which is the

[33:00] Evangelical mystical the Holiness the

[33:02] Pentecostals the apostolics the

[33:04] charismatic movement they came out of

[33:06] that middle group and then you have to

[33:09] The Far Side the liberal which is the

[33:11] modernist the Neo Orthodox Group which

[33:13] also now is more of your

[33:14] non-denominational group they all come

[33:17] out of that Wing so all of the other

[33:22] denominations all protested the Catholic

[33:25] church and came out of the Catholic

[33:28] church and how did the Catholic church

[33:30] start well they didn't like what Jesus

[33:33] started and they said we can do it

[33:34] better and so they started theirs so

[33:37] that's what happened to the Catholic

[33:39] church and so we've had this breakdown

[33:41] of denominations all these other

[33:44] denominations and so Doctrine changes

[33:48] everything and Doctrine is the struggle

[33:51] that they had so because they had

[33:53] different Doctrine they started their

[33:56] own branch of Catholicism and changed

[33:59] the name to a different thing so they

[34:01] protested it so if you go to page

[34:04] three page three of your

[34:09] outline it's going to start with the

[34:12] word distinctives at the top and so a

[34:17] distinctive what does a distinctive mean

[34:21] a distinctive means that marks

[34:23] distinction or difference as distinctive

[34:27] names or titles it also means having the

[34:30] power to distinguish and discern so

[34:34] Doctrine divides us from other

[34:36] denominations that claim to be Christian

[34:39] and also other religions Doctrine does

[34:43] that and so the Bible tells us that all

[34:46] scripture is given by inspiration of God

[34:50] and is profitable for Doctrine now

[34:53] what's on your screen right now is not

[34:55] in your notes and so if you're looking

[34:57] for it it's not there we're getting

[34:59] ready to go to the b a p TI i s t that's

[35:01] next yes but I'm just defining

[35:04] distinctions for you and so there's a

[35:07] mark of Distinction Doctrine divides us

[35:09] from other denominations and religions

[35:12] Doctrine the doctrines of the Gospel are

[35:14] the principles or truth taught by Christ

[35:17] and his Apostles so that verse in

[35:19] Timothy tells us all scriptures given by

[35:21] inspiration of God and is profitable

[35:24] for doctrines that first word what is

[35:27] that mean our Doctrine has to come from

[35:30] the

[35:32] Bible that's where our Doctrine comes

[35:34] from so as we talked about the

[35:36] descendancy of Jesus Christ and the

[35:38] church that he built all the way down

[35:40] here is a simple definition of Baptist

[35:44] Doctrine so it starts with a blank on

[35:46] your paper that has a capital B do you

[35:49] see it that one means this number one

[35:53] biblical

[35:55] Authority biblical Authority Authority

[35:58] the Bible is the final Authority in all

[36:01] matters of belief and practice because

[36:05] the Bible is the in is inspired by God

[36:08] and bears the absolute authority of God

[36:11] himself whatever the Bible affirms

[36:15] Baptist accept as

[36:18] true no human opinion or degree or any

[36:23] articulate Theology of

[36:26] scripture excuse me I got ahead of

[36:29] myself no confessions of Faith which

[36:32] attempt to articulate the Theology of

[36:34] scripture do not carry scriptures

[36:37] inherent Authority in other words the

[36:40] Bible is the authority not what people

[36:43] say about the Bible or not what people

[36:46] add to the Bible we'll talk about that

[36:48] when we get there here in just a minute

[36:50] so we listed for you some verse

[36:52] references we are not going to go

[36:53] through all those tonight um but we want

[36:56] to give you some of those there for you

[36:59] so biblical Authority the first

[37:02] doctrinal truth for Baptist is biblical

[37:07] Authority number two is the

[37:10] autonomy of the local church autonomy a

[37:14] u t o n o m y the autonomy of the local

[37:19] church the local church is an

[37:22] independent body accountable to the Lord

[37:26] Jesus Christ who is the head of the

[37:28] church so the

[37:29] autonomy of the local church so the

[37:33] local church is an independent body

[37:35] accountable to the Lord Jesus Christ the

[37:37] head of the church all human authority

[37:41] for governing the local church resides

[37:44] within the local church itself we don't

[37:47] have to call headquarters to get

[37:50] permission we don't have to answer to

[37:53] the pope we don't have a regional priest

[37:56] that travel around we are all all the

[38:00] working of the church is done in the

[38:02] local church itself thus the church is a

[38:05] tments or

[38:07] self-governing no religious hierarchy

[38:10] outside the local church May dictate a

[38:12] Church's beliefs or practices now

[38:16] autonomy does not mean

[38:18] isolation doesn't mean isolation a

[38:22] Baptist Church May fellowship with other

[38:24] churches around Mutual interests and

[38:26] Association tie but a Baptist Church

[38:30] cannot be a member of any other body so

[38:33] you can't be a member of Bible Baptist

[38:35] Church and some other Church you only

[38:37] belong to one local church you're just a

[38:42] member of One local church so autonomy

[38:46] biblical Authority and then autonomy

[38:48] number three number three is the

[38:51] priesthood of the believer the

[38:55] priesthood of the believer the word

[38:58] priest is defined as one authorized to

[39:01] perform the sacred rights of religion

[39:04] especially as a mediary agent between

[39:07] humans and God every believer today is a

[39:11] priest of God and may enter into his

[39:13] presence in prayer directly through our

[39:15] great high priest Jesus Christ no other

[39:20] mediator is needed between God and the

[39:24] people as priests we can study God's

[39:27] word pray for others and offer spiritual

[39:30] worship to God we all have equal access

[39:35] to God whether we are a preacher or

[39:39] not we all have equal access to God I

[39:43] don't have a corner on the market

[39:45] because I'm a pastor or preacher I don't

[39:47] have a corner on the Holy Spirit same

[39:49] Holy Spirit lives in me lives in you and

[39:52] he can guide and direct you so the

[39:54] priesthood of the believer I don't have

[39:56] to go into a closet and say to a man

[39:58] father forgive me for I have sinned

[40:00] because he can't forgive sins there's

[40:02] only one mediator between God and Men it

[40:04] is the man Christ Jesus who also is the

[40:08] Son of God who gave himself for us so he

[40:11] is our great high priest first Peter

[40:13] chap 2: 5 verse 9 Revelation 5: 9 and

[40:20] 10 Baptists also believe number three in

[40:24] two

[40:25] ordinances I think that's that's on the

[40:27] next slide is that on the next slide is

[40:29] on the bottom of this one bottom of this

[40:31] one two

[40:32] ordinances the local church should

[40:34] practice how many ordinances two baptism

[40:39] of who Believers by immersion in water

[40:44] identifying the individual with Christ

[40:46] and his death burial and Resurrection we

[40:49] don't baptize people to be saved we

[40:51] baptize people who are already saved

[40:55] that's an important Doctrine where did

[40:57] we get that from Jesus and the church

[40:59] that he started so two ordinances also

[41:02] the Lord's supper or communion

[41:04] commemorating his death for our sins

[41:07] Matthew 28:19-20 1 Corinthians 11: 23-32

[41:12] tells us about the two ordinances so

[41:15] where do we get the two ordinances from

[41:17] the word of God because the Bible is our

[41:20] sole Authority for Faith and practice

[41:24] where did we get priesthood of The

[41:25] Believer from the Bible because the

[41:28] Bible is our sole Authority for Faith

[41:31] and practice so now we go to number four

[41:35] individual soul Liberty

[41:39] individual soul

[41:41] Liberty every

[41:44] individual whether a Believer or an

[41:48] unbeliever has the Liberty to choose

[41:51] what he believes is right in the

[41:53] religious realm no one should be Force

[41:58] to Ascent to any belief against his will

[42:02] Baptists have always opposed religious

[42:06] persecution however the Liberty does not

[42:08] exempt one from responsibility to the

[42:12] word of God or from accountability to

[42:15] God

[42:16] himself Romans

[42:18] 145 Romans 12 verse 2 or Romans 145 and

[42:24] 14:12 2 Corinthians 4: number two Titus

[42:28] 1 n talk about our individual soul

[42:32] Liberty in our chart we looked at

[42:34] earlier we had anabaptist they called

[42:36] them that because they were re-baptized

[42:39] they did not believe and accepting

[42:42] baptism from other groups and so they

[42:45] practiced Baptist baptism and so they

[42:48] were anti Baptist which means re so what

[42:50] they would do they were persecuted by

[42:52] the Catholic church and the Catholic

[42:54] church had a Doctrine a belief that they

[42:56] would practice with anabaptist called

[42:59] permanent

[43:01] baptism they would take him into a body

[43:04] of water and they would baptize them

[43:08] permanently in other words they would

[43:09] kill them in the baptistry or in the

[43:12] water that they were baptizing in

[43:15] because of their doctrinal beliefs the

[43:16] same with the Nova the monst dontist the

[43:19] waldensians a lot of those groups

[43:20] suffered persecution because of their

[43:23] doctrinal beliefs so individual so

[43:27] Liberty the next one is saved

[43:30] baptized church membership saved

[43:35] baptized church membership local church

[43:40] membership is restricted to individuals

[43:43] who give a believable testimony of a

[43:45] personal faith in Christ have publicly

[43:49] identified themselves with him in

[43:51] scriptural baptism when the members of a

[43:54] local church are believers a Oneness in

[43:58] Christ exists and the members can

[44:00] Endeavor to keep the unity of the spirit

[44:02] and the bond of Peace we find that

[44:06] referen in Acts 2:

[44:08] 41-47 1 Corinthians 12:12 2 Corinthians

[44:13] 614 and Ephesians

[44:16] 43 saved baptized church

[44:21] membership now if they're saved and

[44:24] baptized they can be a member of the

[44:25] church now why is that that important

[44:28] because there's a period of time that in

[44:30] order to be a member of the church in

[44:32] certain regions of the world all you had

[44:34] to do is give x amount of dollars and

[44:36] you could be a member of the

[44:37] church you paid that money you could

[44:40] live however you wanted to live you

[44:41] could do whatever you wanted to do but

[44:43] you could say at the end of day hey I'm

[44:45] a member of the church because I put my

[44:47] money and basically bought my

[44:50] membership other people uh would not

[44:54] practice scriptural baptism and

[44:56] therefore would have people in their

[44:58] church that uh got baptized but never

[45:00] believed in Jesus for salvation they're

[45:02] believing in their baptism for salvation

[45:05] therefore they did not have saved

[45:07] baptized church membership now going

[45:11] back to we talked about two

[45:14] ordinances Baptist believe in two

[45:16] ordinances and we also believe in the

[45:19] local church and so the ordinances are

[45:22] to be observed by

[45:24] who the local church they're

[45:27] administered by the local church they

[45:28] observed by the local church so baptism

[45:30] is done by the local church and the

[45:32] Lord's supper is done by the local

[45:36] church now you can go down the street to

[45:38] some other churches in the town and you

[45:41] can take communion this Sunday you can

[45:44] walk in their doors and they'll serve

[45:46] you communion because they don't believe

[45:49] that it it is a local church they

[45:51] believe you're all part of a universal

[45:53] church and so you can go take communion

[45:56] any Sunday and you could actually go

[45:59] take communion leave that church go to

[46:00] another church and if you get there on

[46:02] time take communion at the other church

[46:05] I only know that because I had a

[46:06] gentleman tell me that he did it three

[46:08] times in one

[46:12] Sunday I was very much concerned for him

[46:15] because the Bible teaches about

[46:17] communion that he that eateth or

[46:18] drinketh unworthily can eat or drink of

[46:21] damnation and so there's a lot that goes

[46:23] into that it ought to be taken seriously

[46:26] so there's two ordinances so we're up to

[46:29] the second T now if you've noticed our

[46:31] first letters b a p t i s now another T

[46:35] two offices in the church two offices in

[46:38] the church it's not the pastor's office

[46:40] and the secretary's office it's two

[46:43] offices in the church the Bible mandates

[46:45] only two offices in the church the

[46:47] pastor and Deacon there are three terms

[46:50] in scripture referencing the pastor one

[46:53] is an elder another is a bishop which

[46:55] also is a overseer here all refer to the

[46:59] same office Pastor Elder bishop or

[47:02] overseer all refer to the same office

[47:05] the two offices of Pastor and Deacon

[47:07] exist within the local church not as a

[47:10] hierarchy outside or over the local

[47:13] church but are ministers in the church

[47:17] acts 6 1-7 1 Timothy

[47:20] 31-13 Titus 1 6-9 and then also in First

[47:25] Peter

[47:27] chapter 5 veres

[47:30] 1-4 so there's two offices in the Bible

[47:33] where do we get those offices from

[47:35] pastor and deacon now there is a

[47:38] teaching out in the world it's called

[47:39] plurality of Elders and so they take the

[47:42] word Elder overseers and say that your

[47:44] church ought to have five or six Elders

[47:46] on top of a pastor and so they teach in

[47:50] plurality of Elders and they take the

[47:52] term that God intended for pastors now

[47:55] it is not wrong to to have

[47:57] accountability in Ministry it's a very

[47:59] good thing to do but the Bible does not

[48:02] teach P PL plurality of Elders it

[48:06] teaches in pastor and Deacon those two

[48:09] offices the last s is separation of

[48:13] church and state separation of church

[48:17] and state God established both the

[48:20] church and civil government as we talked

[48:22] about Sunday night and he gave each its

[48:24] own distinct sphere of oper ation the

[48:27] government purposes are outlined in

[48:29] Romans 13 1-7 which we looked at Sunday

[48:32] night Church's purposes in Matthew 28 19

[48:35] to 20 neither should control the other

[48:39] nor there an alliance between the two

[48:42] Christians in a free Society can

[48:44] properly influence government toward

[48:48] righteousness Christians in a free

[48:51] Society can properly influence

[48:53] government toward

[48:55] righteousness which is not the same as a

[48:57] denomination or group of churches

[49:00] controlling the government Matthew 22:1

[49:03] 15-22 acts 15 17- 29 the reason that

[49:07] became a very popular Doctrine

[49:09] especially for Baptists is because there

[49:11] were government mandated and government

[49:14] country controlled churches that

[49:16] mandated you had to do it their way you

[49:18] had to be that religion and Baptists

[49:21] fought to have freedom of religion and

[49:24] so those separation of church and state

[49:27] so if you notied our distinctives

[49:29] outline tonight spells b a p t i s TS so

[49:33] it makes a little easier because it's

[49:35] Baptist so it helps us to remember it

[49:37] now we talked about Doctrine and how

[49:40] important it

[49:42] is what's the most important Doctrine to

[49:46] you salvation very good that's the most

[49:49] important Doctrine salvation and

[49:51] Baptists believe in the Bible authority

[49:55] of Doctrine now I want to give you why

[49:57] we're not

[49:59] Protestants and why we're not some other

[50:01] religion but why we believe Baptists

[50:04] have Bible Authority and Bible Doctrine

[50:07] so I want to give you some salvation

[50:08] beliefs of other denominations the first

[50:10] one is the Church of Christ this is

[50:12] taken from their websites some of them

[50:14] the websites here in our town from these

[50:17] particular churches the Church of Christ

[50:19] this is their doctrinal statement on

[50:20] salvation we believe that through the

[50:22] atonement of Christ all men may be saved

[50:26] by The Obedience to the laws and the

[50:28] ordinance of the Gospel Vis A faith in

[50:32] God and in the Lord Jesus Christ

[50:34] repentance and baptism by immersion for

[50:37] the remission of sins laying on of hands

[50:40] for a ordination B blessing of children

[50:43] confirmation and the gift of the Holy

[50:45] Ghost D healing of the

[50:47] sick so the Church of Christ teaches

[50:50] Jesus can died for your

[50:53] sins but you also have to do all the

[50:56] good works that then you got to be

[50:57] baptized in order to get the remission

[51:00] so if you don't get baptized in the

[51:02] Church of Christ then you're not

[51:05] saved that's what they believe they

[51:08] didn't believe in Jesus by grace through

[51:10] faith they say Jesus died for you but

[51:13] you got to do Jesus and you got to have

[51:14] faith and you got to obey and you got to

[51:16] obey all the laws and the ordinances you

[51:18] got to repent you got to have baptism by

[51:20] immersion for the remission of sins and

[51:23] then they also talk about other things

[51:24] that they believe as well

[51:28] now the Bible does not teach you got to

[51:30] be baptized to be saved you're saved

[51:33] before you got

[51:35] baptized the Church of Christ teaches

[51:37] that that that causes

[51:39] confusion because they're not getting

[51:41] their Doctrine from the word of God

[51:44] what's the number one thing Baptists

[51:45] believe B Baptists believe in biblical

[51:48] Authority it's the first thing our

[51:51] Doctrine comes from the Bible so

[51:53] biblical Authority number two under that

[51:56] the Christian Church the independent

[51:59] Christian Church believe baptism to be

[52:03] one of the four

[52:06] steps to

[52:08] Salvation so along with belief

[52:11] repentance and a confession in Christ

[52:15] you also have to be baptized you got to

[52:17] get all four if you don't have all four

[52:20] you didn't get saved according to the

[52:22] Christian Church you got to have all

[52:24] four you got to have belief repentance

[52:27] confession of Christ and baptism now

[52:30] Baptists believe the Bible is the sole

[52:31] Authority for by grace are you saved

[52:33] through faith and that not of yourselves

[52:37] it is a gift of God not of is baptism a

[52:42] work it's an action that has to be

[52:45] completed so the Christian church

[52:48] now the next one FCC elino is a

[52:53] Disciples of Christ

[52:55] congregation disciples do not have this

[52:58] is from their website do not have a set

[53:02] theology but instead Fellowship together

[53:06] in

[53:07] unity disciples believe in the Bible God

[53:12] Christ as God's son public confession

[53:15] and inclusive

[53:17] Ministry all members are ministers

[53:21] entitled to interpret scripture and

[53:24] perform church functions

[53:28] so anybody can do it so anybody On Any

[53:32] Given Sunday could come up behind the

[53:34] pulpit and read the Bible interpret the

[53:37] scripture say what they think it means

[53:40] On Any Given

[53:43] Sunday but they don't have a set

[53:46] theology they have a fellowship together

[53:49] so it's all about the people and

[53:51] theology Theo means god it's God's

[53:54] theology God's study so they don't have

[53:56] have a set thinking about God they just

[53:59] are in unity

[54:01] together so the next group is the

[54:04] Methodist and the wlans this on slide 10

[54:07] We Believe although we have experienced

[54:11] regeneration it is possible to depart

[54:15] from grace and fall into sin and we may

[54:19] even then by the grace of God be renewed

[54:23] in righteousness so the Methodist in the

[54:26] Wesleyan teach you can experience

[54:28] regeneration but you could depart from

[54:31] Grace you could lose it and fall into

[54:34] sin and we may even then by the grace of

[54:37] God be renewed and right so you got to

[54:39] do good works to stay

[54:43] saved and if you don't do good works and

[54:47] you sin now according to their doctrinal

[54:49] statement we spent time looking up they

[54:51] didn't list whatever sin so I guess if

[54:53] you lie you're going to lose your

[54:55] salvation

[54:57] if you

[54:59] speed because you're breaking the

[55:02] law you lose your

[55:06] salvation now they don't like to

[55:08] simplify it down there but that's what

[55:09] their statement

[55:11] teaches so the methodists and wlans

[55:13] where did they come from out of the

[55:14] Catholic Church during the Protestants

[55:16] in the ad500 that's where they came out

[55:20] of the next group the apostolic and

[55:23] Pentecostal group there are so many

[55:25] different beliefs it's hard to clearly

[55:27] speak many believe in faith plus baptism

[55:30] plus this plus that plus speaking in

[55:33] tongues each one is different so I

[55:34] looked at the Apostolic Pentecostal

[55:36] group across our town and they all had

[55:40] different beliefs and many believe in

[55:44] faith plus baptism or faith plus

[55:46] speaking in tongues Faith plus and so uh

[55:49] the Bible teaches it's not of

[55:53] Works lest any man should boast

[55:56] it's by grace through

[55:58] faith slide 11 there's some other

[56:00] denominations beliefs on salvation we

[56:03] want to look at tonight as well

[56:05] Catholicism salvation in Roman

[56:07] Catholicism is a process with many steps

[56:11] they believe in actual Grace Faith good

[56:14] works baptism and participation in the

[56:17] sacraments Penance indulgences and

[56:20] keeping the Commandments if you do all

[56:22] of those things then you can arrive at

[56:24] Salvation till next Sunday

[56:28] and then you have to get renew it the

[56:30] next week and the next week and the next

[56:32] week so it's a Works performance base so

[56:36] Mormonism salvation can be achieved by

[56:38] believing in God and Jesus doing good

[56:41] being kind Fair loving Etc developing

[56:46] moral character repenting of sins

[56:49] attaining forgiveness through the

[56:51] atonement of Christ being baptized and

[56:54] participating in other Mormon ordinances

[56:57] in order to be

[56:58] saved you have to do all the stuff plus

[57:02] believe in Jesus atonement in order to

[57:06] be

[57:07] saved Jehovah Witnesses believe

[57:10] salvation is a gift from God

[57:12] attained by being part of this is from

[57:15] their website God's

[57:17] organization and putting faith in Jesus

[57:20] Ransom sacrifice so you got to be part

[57:23] of their organization and put your faith

[57:25] in Jesus so it's a Works based

[57:31] salvation what did the Bible

[57:35] say not of Works our Biblical Authority

[57:39] our number one Principle as Baptist the

[57:41] biblical Authority says it's not of

[57:44] works so being a Baptist is important

[57:47] because it's not of works it's by grace

[57:50] through faith SL the next slide talks

[57:53] about Islam the Quran teaches the

[57:55] necessity of both faith and good works

[57:57] for

[57:59] salvation faith and good works for

[58:01] salvation and that's simplifying it but

[58:03] that's a simple definition there the

[58:06] next slide down talks about the Life

[58:09] Church which is a popular church here in

[58:11] Oklahoma they claim to be an Evangelical

[58:14] Covenant Church what makes the Covenant

[58:16] unique from other denominations is the

[58:19] fact that while it strongly affirms the

[58:21] clear teaching of the word of God it

[58:24] allows believers

[58:26] the personal freedom to have varying

[58:31] interpretations on theological issues

[58:34] that are not clearly presented in

[58:40] scripture they strongly affirm the clear

[58:42] teaching of the word of God but it

[58:45] allows Believers the personal freedom to

[58:48] have a varying

[58:50] interpretations on theological issues

[58:53] that are not clearly presented in

[58:54] scripture there's one interpret ration

[58:56] of scripture and multiple applications

[59:00] but there's one

[59:01] interpretation you don't get to get your

[59:03] own

[59:04] interpretation you don't have the

[59:06] freedom to do that God says what he says

[59:08] and he means what he

[59:09] says so that's just on

[59:12] salvation now we we've been emphasizing

[59:15] Doctrine number one doctrine of

[59:16] salvation number two Doctrine we find is

[59:18] important is the doctrine on the

[59:22] Bible the Bible's important it's our

[59:25] soul Authority it's it's important so

[59:29] we'll go over some of the other ones

[59:30] real quick and then we'll make some

[59:32] application at the end and move on the

[59:34] Church of Christ we talked about them

[59:36] about salvation we believe that the

[59:38] Bible is contained contained in the word

[59:40] of God that the Book of Mormon is an

[59:43] added witness for Christ and that these

[59:46] contain the fullness of the

[59:50] Gospel so that's from The Church of

[59:52] Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints the

[59:55] more is an added witness for Christ so

[59:58] the book of Mormon's added it's extra

[60:01] got to have it plus the

[60:03] Bible and that these contain the

[60:06] fullness of the go they actually believe

[60:07] that the one way they describe it's

[60:08] another

[60:11] Testament like Jesus didn't write enough

[60:14] in the new you got to add another

[60:16] one now the official United Methodist

[60:19] Doctrine before their shakeup earlier

[60:23] this year is that the Bible was inspired

[60:25] by God and contains all the things

[60:27] necessary for salvation when read under

[60:30] the inspiration of the Holy Spirit the

[60:32] Bible is our true Rule and guide for

[60:34] Faith and practice well that sounds

[60:37] good except for what they said about

[60:41] salvation so if they're getting the

[60:43] Salvation

[60:45] wrong I wonder how many other things

[60:48] they're getting wrong because they

[60:49] interpret scripture

[60:51] wrong so the Lutheran Church they one

[60:54] here in town the bigger one in Town

[60:56] Missouri Cade accepts the scriptures as

[60:59] the inspired and inherent word of God

[61:02] and the lcms Subscribe unconditionally

[61:05] to all the symbolic books of the

[61:08] Evangelical Lutheran Church as a true

[61:11] and unadulterated statement and

[61:13] Exposition of the word of

[61:16] God so they believe the Bible plus all

[61:21] their covenants and their confessions in

[61:24] fact if you go to their website the

[61:26] space about the Bibles about this big

[61:28] and then they have a space this long

[61:29] about the confessions and hyperlinks to

[61:32] all the different ones where you can go

[61:34] read all of their confessions from their

[61:36] Protestant moving out of the Catholic

[61:39] Church where do you think the emphasis

[61:42] is on the word of God or on

[61:51] tradition I didn't finish but there's

[61:54] more the Lutheran Church also says we

[61:56] accept the Lutheran confessions as

[61:58] articulated in the book of Concord of

[62:00] 1580 because they are drawn from the

[62:03] word of God and on the account we regard

[62:05] their doctrinal content as true and

[62:08] binding exposition of the Holy

[62:10] scriptures and watch this and as

[62:14] authoritative so the books that were

[62:17] written in 1590 or 1580 excuse me are as

[62:22] authoritative as the word of God for all

[62:26] pastors congregations and others

[62:28] rostered Church workers of the Lutheran

[62:32] Church the weslan they believe the Bible

[62:35] is God's holy word it's uniquely and

[62:37] infallibility infallibly reveals God's

[62:40] plan for his people and how to live out

[62:42] that plan individually and corporately

[62:45] beliefs practices priorities and our

[62:48] mission are to be anchored in clear

[62:51] Biblical

[62:54] teaching but

[62:56] they have a list of seven approved

[62:59] versions of the Bible that you can pull

[63:00] that

[63:02] from so if you don't like one version

[63:05] you can go look at another version if it

[63:06] reads better for you you can believe

[63:08] that one that's their in their doctrinal

[63:13] state the Apostolic Pentecostal group

[63:16] the Bible is in the infallible word of

[63:17] God and the Authority for salvation and

[63:19] Christian

[63:20] Living but they use multiple versions in

[63:23] different churches in town they have

[63:25] different different versions of the

[63:26] Bible that they use they don't all use

[63:28] the same one they have different

[63:30] deferring views so if it's the inspired

[63:33] word of God why would you need multiple

[63:35] different versions of

[63:37] it because also people ask if everything

[63:40] Catholics believe is found in the Bible

[63:42] the answer is both yes and no the church

[63:46] does not derive her certainty about all

[63:49] revealed truths from the holy scriptures

[63:51] alone they're Bible plus tradition

[63:56] Mormonism the Mormons insist that they

[63:57] do not reject the Bible in fact you

[64:00] might have seen their missionaries use

[64:02] the Bible however they consider it only

[64:06] partially

[64:08] complete the church news a Mormon

[64:10] newspaper carried the statement

[64:12] concerning the Bible it is the word of

[64:15] God it's not perfect the Prophet Joseph

[64:19] made many Corrections in

[64:22] it the paper from the Mormon said it is

[64:26] the word of God it's not perfect the

[64:28] Prophet Joseph made many Corrections in

[64:31] it so that's what the Mormon Church

[64:33] teaches Jehovah Witnesses New World

[64:36] Translation and the Watchtower and the

[64:38] modern-day Prophet are considered as

[64:41] scripture so the New World Translation

[64:44] their version of the Bible and the

[64:45] Watchtower their publication they put

[64:47] out and whatever the modern-day prophets

[64:50] says are all considered

[64:53] scripture Islam the Christian B is

[64:56] polluted and only the Quran should be

[64:57] accepted and some other writings as

[65:00] well so the Life Church says we affirm

[65:03] the centrality of the word of God but we

[65:05] use the NIV version or the ESV version

[65:09] or another version whichever one works

[65:12] for you because you have the freedom to

[65:15] choose your interpretation

[65:17] thereof uh many Christian churches over

[65:20] the years the Cs of the cnca have

[65:22] approved a number of Bibles so if you

[65:25] can bring that list up um if you thought

[65:28] it was bad it gets a lot worse so the

[65:31] Christian Reformed congregation uh they

[65:34] list that you can use the King James

[65:36] version of the Bible or you can use in

[65:38] 1926 they said or you can use the

[65:40] American Standard Version of the Bible

[65:42] or in 1969 you can use the revised

[65:45] Standard Version of the Bible or in 1980

[65:47] you can use a new international version

[65:49] or in 1992 you can use a new revised

[65:52] Standard Version or in 2006 you could

[65:55] use today's New International Version

[65:57] the tnv or in 2007 they said you could

[66:00] use the English Standard Version of the

[66:01] Bible or in 2008 you could use the New

[66:04] Living Translation but in 1982 you're

[66:07] only allowed to study from The New

[66:09] American Standard but you can't use it

[66:10] for

[66:13] preaching that's from their their their

[66:16] website

[66:17] statement so you can have a New American

[66:19] Standard Bible but you can't preach from

[66:21] it teach from it you can only use it for

[66:23] studying because it's only good enough

[66:25] to study from it's not good enough to

[66:27] teach

[66:28] from but you can use any of the other

[66:30] ones um that's a little confusing isn't

[66:35] it what's the number one thing we

[66:37] believe as Baptists that the Bible is

[66:40] our so Authority for Faith and practice

[66:43] we believe the Bible has Authority and

[66:45] if we've got multiple different

[66:48] versions wouldn't that cause confusion

[66:50] to your Authority we'd have to change to

[66:53] Bibles

[66:56] but I I wouldn't even claim it's Bibles

[66:58] its

[67:00] versions or as one Pastor would say per

[67:04] versions of scripture now there's some

[67:07] major differences we're at the end we're

[67:09] in slide number 17 we're at the end

[67:12] major difference between Baptist and

[67:13] every other

[67:15] denomination when and where the church

[67:17] started affects our

[67:19] Doctrine if you can't get settled on the

[67:21] fact that Jesus started the church with

[67:23] his disciples it'll mess up the rest of

[67:25] your Doctrine so where Jesus started his

[67:28] church is a foundational Baptist

[67:31] Doctrine biblical doctrine that helps us

[67:34] to know so that's the first one when and

[67:37] where the church started a lot of the

[67:38] other denominations the Protestant

[67:40] movement Universal Church Catholic the

[67:43] word itself means Universal and so it's

[67:45] all Universal Church they're all

[67:47] together they're all part of a mystical

[67:49] group of church that's not what the

[67:51] Bible teaches it's local church versus

[67:53] universal church so the other major

[67:55] difference we're local church not

[67:57] universal church and our local church

[68:00] has a local church Authority we believe

[68:02] in individual soul Liberty the people

[68:04] who are members of our local church help

[68:06] our local church decide how to do what

[68:09] God tells us to do it's all local church

[68:12] driven also practices and beliefs are

[68:15] changed upon this subject so Universal

[68:18] Church local church people switch and

[68:20] change their doctrines if you're not

[68:23] local church you'll have a deferring

[68:25] view on the

[68:26] ordinances there's three primary

[68:28] positions that people believe about

[68:31] ordinances one is called with dealing

[68:33] with uh the Lord's Supper one is called

[68:35] open communion anybody can take it you

[68:40] can walk in the door any any church that

[68:42] believes in open communion you can walk

[68:43] in and you can take communion

[68:46] there now what did the Bible say who

[68:48] started the who started who did whose

[68:51] supper is

[68:52] it when did he Institute it with his

[68:56] church that he

[68:57] started so it's a church ordinance but

[69:00] if you believe in Universal Church at

[69:03] every believer's part of it anybody can

[69:04] take communion anywhere so they believe

[69:07] in un so that that truth on local versus

[69:10] universal affects that so open is one

[69:12] second one is what we call close c l o s

[69:16] e close well they're they're common

[69:18] Christians they're they're like us or

[69:22] some would say well they go to another

[69:24] Baptist Church so because they go to

[69:25] another Baptist Church it's okay for

[69:27] them to take it at our Baptist

[69:31] Church but they're not

[69:34] members and if you believe in local

[69:36] church Authority not Universal Church

[69:39] Authority then you won't be close in

[69:41] your communion which only leaves one

[69:43] other position which is

[69:45] closed which also I would call the

[69:47] biblical

[69:48] position it's closed it's for local

[69:51] church members

[69:52] only

[69:54] so and our practice of the Lord's Supper

[69:57] here at our church it's for church

[69:58] members

[69:59] only that's why we don't do it on

[70:03] Sunday because we have visitors praise

[70:05] the Lord and we have regular attenders

[70:07] who haven't joined the church yet but

[70:09] they're not members of the church

[70:11] therefore guess what they can't take

[70:13] communion because it's a church thing

[70:16] not a universal church thing it's a

[70:18] local church thing so that doctrine of

[70:21] local church versus universal church

[70:23] affects that it also local church versus

[70:25] universal church affects

[70:29] baptism because if you believe in The

[70:31] Universal Church you can go from any

[70:33] church and get baptized in any church

[70:35] and you can come over and be a member at

[70:37] a church because you got baptized at

[70:39] such and such a church or I had one guy

[70:41] he said I got baptized in the Jordan

[70:43] River in Israel so you should accept my

[70:45] baptism because it was in the Holy Land

[70:47] I said who baptized you he said the tour

[70:49] guide I paid him 15 bucks and he

[70:50] baptized me in the Jordan

[70:52] River I said he didn't have a proper

[70:54] Authority

[70:58] so your view of universal church versus

[71:00] lcal Church affects how you handle

[71:03] baptism and so we we teach here

[71:06] scriptural baptism I don't re-baptize

[71:09] people I scripturally baptize them or

[71:12] the people that the church has

[71:13] designated to baptize people we

[71:14] scripturally baptize them because as we

[71:17] heard earlier if you believe that

[71:18] baptism is part of Salvation then you

[71:22] could come from a church that that's

[71:24] your Sal Sal that's how you got saved so

[71:26] we don't practice that because it's a

[71:28] doctrinal thing so Doctrine divides

[71:31] salvation for Baptist is by grace

[71:33] through faith salvation from many other

[71:36] denominations is Faith plus something

[71:38] else baptism Works sacraments speaking

[71:40] in tongues Baptists believe what the

[71:43] Bible says here's our last truth tonight

[71:46] we know where we come from not what we

[71:49] came out of that makes a big

[71:52] distinction we know where we came from

[71:55] not what we came out of that makes a big

[71:58] distinction we can trace our lineage all

[72:00] the way back to Jesus and his disciples

[72:02] our Doctrine comes from there not we

[72:05] came out of the Catholic church because

[72:06] we protested that we're not Protestants

[72:08] we're

[72:09] Baptists so the doctrine divides us

[72:13] Doctrine is important and all scriptures

[72:16] given by inspiration of God is

[72:17] profitable for Doctrine for Repro for

[72:19] correction for instruction and

[72:21] righteousness that the man of God may be

[72:22] perfect thly furnished unto all good

[72:25] good works Baptists believe the Bible

[72:28] and the Bible is important and what

[72:31] Bible you use is just as important but

[72:33] that's another lesson we don't have time

[72:35] to get into all that tonight would you

[72:36] bow your heads

[72:39] tonight Heavenly Father Lord we're

[72:42] thankful that we know your word and we

[72:44] know the truth of your word and Lord I

[72:47] know tonight was not a preaching type

[72:50] message Lord but Lord that there may

[72:52] still be some that need to do business

[72:55] with you today Lord you may have

[72:56] convicted them of things in their life

[72:58] or Lord they may just need to come and

[73:00] thank you for the day and respond to you

[73:03] Lord whatever our needs are help us to

[73:06] respond as you would have us to respond

[73:08] in your name I pray amen let's all stand

[73:11] together as the instruments play and

[73:13] Brother Sam leads us you do business

[73:14] with God

[73:22] tonight and th own way

[73:27] Thou Art the

[73:31] PO I Am The

[73:35] Clay hold me and

[73:38] make

[73:40] me after

[73:44] thy while I am

[73:50] waiting and still

[73:53] [Music]

[73:55] have th own

[73:59] way have

[74:03] th search me and

[74:06] try me

[74:17] master

[74:18] [Music]

[74:20] me as in th

[74:25] [Music]

[74:36] have

[74:38] way hold

[74:43] my absolute

[74:47] s f with thy

[74:52] Spirit till all shall see

[74:57] Christ

[74:58] [Music]

[75:03] only all God's people said man you may

[75:06] be seated want to give you a few prayer
