[0:00] hello again friends at Bible Baptist

[0:02] thank you for watching this devotion

[0:04] today and I'm decided to jump back in

[0:08] the First Samuel chapter 16 with you and

[0:10] share another encouraging challenging

[0:12] thought from God's Word I trust you

[0:14] doing well today and praying for you and

[0:17] trust you in your church and your family

[0:19] are doing well and so let's jump back in

[0:22] the first samuel 16 and if you remember

[0:24] from the last devotion the last time we

[0:26] were together we're walking through the

[0:28] story of David being at the shepherd boy

[0:32] being anointed to be the king the next

[0:34] king of Israel and we're really asking

[0:37] the question from this text what kind of

[0:39] people does God choose what kind of

[0:41] people does God use and we're learning

[0:44] about that from this anointing of this

[0:48] young shepherd boy by the name of David

[0:51] and we saw last devotion that the first

[0:53] reason that God chose him to be king was

[0:57] because he was spiritual a chapter 13

[0:59] says a first salmon that God sought him

[1:02] man after God's own heart and we come to

[1:06] chapter 16 and find that that man that

[1:08] God was looking for I happened to be a

[1:11] David and we saw that simply to be a man

[1:15] or a woman or a teenager after God's own

[1:17] heart simply means this it means that

[1:19] your life is in harmony with God

[1:22] you're in sync with God you are in step

[1:24] with God and let me just remind you

[1:27] today now you're as close to God as you

[1:30] want to be you're as close to God as you

[1:32] want to be and listen your relationship

[1:35] with the Lord is your responsibility and

[1:37] no one else can walk with the Lord for

[1:40] you no one else can read the Bible for

[1:42] you no one else can pray for you it's

[1:44] your responsibility it's my

[1:46] responsibility I praise the Lord there

[1:48] was a young man Joe maybe just a boy

[1:50] just a teenager out in the pastures in

[1:53] the fields of Bethlehem keeping the

[1:54] Sheep but he made a decision at a young

[1:57] age that he was gonna walk with the Lord

[1:59] and cultivate a close relationship and

[2:01] he was going to be in harmony with the

[2:04] Lord he was going to be spiritual and

[2:06] because David was spiritual we saw that

[2:08] that was really the first reason why God

[2:10] chose him to be the next king of Israel

[2:13] but I want to share with you what I

[2:14] believe to be the second reason that God

[2:16] shows I David to be the king and that

[2:18] reason is this number one he was

[2:20] spiritual but number two today I want to

[2:22] show you that he was humble that David

[2:25] was humble as soon as David was anointed

[2:28] king in verse number twelve and thirteen

[2:31] same you put the oil on his head and I

[2:34] believe whispered in his ear David

[2:36] you're going to be the next king I love

[2:38] what happens next you say well what

[2:40] happened next well here's what did not

[2:42] happen next a David after he was

[2:44] anointed to be the next king he did not

[2:46] strap a crown on his head and start

[2:49] strutting around he did not go downtown

[2:51] and threw a parade for himself he did

[2:53] not start bossing people around and

[2:56] barking out orders to us brothers and

[2:58] his family and he didn't do any of that

[3:01] as soon as he was anointed king he went

[3:04] right back to keeping the Sheep now let

[3:08] me say keeping the Sheep and Old

[3:09] Testament times that was the lowliest

[3:11] task the lowliest job that you could

[3:14] have and being the youngest of all the

[3:16] all the kids of other brothers that was

[3:19] David's job he was to keep the Sheep and

[3:21] as soon as he was anointed king he went

[3:24] right back to keeping the Sheep in fact

[3:26] you see that it's found in the very next

[3:28] passage in 1st Samuel chapter 16 and we

[3:32] see in verse number 14 the Spirit of

[3:34] Lord left his left salt and an evil

[3:37] spirit was placed on him

[3:39] and he was just tormented by that spirit

[3:42] and so he says I need a musician I need

[3:44] someone to play some some music that'll

[3:46] soothe my my troubled mind and heart and

[3:49] and soul and so somebody says we know a

[3:52] musician David is a great musician and

[3:55] so Samuel Saul says well somebody go get

[3:58] him and bring him to me so he can play

[4:00] some music and the Bible says verse

[4:02] number 19 wherefore Saul sent messengers

[4:05] unto Jesse and said send me David thy

[4:08] son which is with the Sheep in fact you

[4:12] find it that it takes place yet again in

[4:14] Chapter number 17 and the Bible says in

[4:17] verse number 13 and again this is when

[4:19] the battle with a Goliath begins to take

[4:21] place and chapter 17 verse number 13 and

[4:24] the three eldest sons that Jesse went

[4:26] and follow

[4:27] soul to the battle and the names of the

[4:29] three sons that went to the battle were

[4:31] he alive the firstborn and next unto him

[4:33] I've been a DAB and third Shamu we were

[4:36] introduced to them in chapter 16 but the

[4:38] Bible says in verse 14 and David was the

[4:41] youngest and the three eldest followed

[4:44] Saul but David verse 15 when they

[4:46] returned from Saul to feed his father's

[4:49] sheep at Bethlehem once again he's right

[4:52] back there taking care of the Sheep back

[4:54] in I've several verses later Jesse sends

[4:57] David that takes some cheese and some

[4:59] loathsome snacks to his brother there on

[5:02] the battlefield and the Bible says in

[5:04] verse number 20 and David rose up early

[5:07] in the morning and left the sheep with a

[5:09] keeper and took and went as Jesse had

[5:13] commanded him once again one more time

[5:15] he's there taking care of the sheep

[5:18] here's what's so significant here's what

[5:21] I love about that even though he was

[5:23] anointed to be the next king he went

[5:25] right back every time to take care of

[5:28] the sheep in fact it seems like every

[5:30] time they needed David they had to pull

[5:32] him off of the sheep just to get him and

[5:34] to run an errand or to take care of some

[5:36] other task and here's what I love about

[5:39] that even though he was anointed to be

[5:41] the next king he never got too big to

[5:45] take care of the sheep let me say this

[5:47] and never get too big to do the little

[5:50] things never get too big to do the

[5:54] little things and the fact that he went

[5:56] right back to taking care of the sheep I

[5:58] believe was just a great indication and

[6:01] revealed the law revealed his humility

[6:04] and says a lot about his character and I

[6:06] believe it had a lot to do with why God

[6:09] chose David to be the next king of

[6:12] Israel he was not only spiritual he was

[6:15] also humble hey never get too big to do

[6:19] the little things listen you and I on

[6:22] about a strive to be humble servants of

[6:25] the Lord Jesus Christ and can I say that

[6:28] the servants are found all throughout

[6:31] the Bible and I believe they're

[6:34] thursday.a I believe there's a pattern

[6:37] in the Word of God and I believe that

[6:39] pattern is this the way up

[6:41] is down the way up is down you see that

[6:45] take place in many people's lives

[6:46] throughout the Bible I'm thinking of

[6:49] Abraham's servant when he sent a servant

[6:52] out to find Isaac a wife and the Bible

[6:55] says that Abraham sent out a servant but

[6:57] that servant was the ruler over all that

[7:00] Abraham had hey even though he was a

[7:02] servant he was ruler over all of

[7:04] Abraham's possessions he was an overseer

[7:07] I think of Joseph when Joseph was put in

[7:10] Potiphar's house the Bible says that

[7:12] Joseph began to serve Potiphar he was a

[7:16] servant to Potiphar well a few verses

[7:18] later the Bible says that Potiphar made

[7:21] Joseph overseer over all that and that

[7:25] he possessed Joseph began as a servant

[7:27] but he quickly became the overseer of

[7:30] all that part of her hat I think you see

[7:33] that in the New Testament even in

[7:35] Philippians chapter 2 of Jesus the Bible

[7:37] says that Jesus took upon himself the

[7:39] form of a servant but several verses

[7:41] later the Bible says that God has

[7:44] exalted him and given him a name that's

[7:46] above every name

[7:47] hey over and over again Old Testament

[7:50] and New Testament friend the way up is

[7:53] down we find men and women taking the

[7:55] position of just a humble serf of the

[7:58] Lord and both the Lord exalted them and

[8:00] use them and put them and promoted them

[8:02] and use them in wonderful ways

[8:05] evangelist John Goetsch I heard him say

[8:07] this one time and it's stuck with me he

[8:09] says you just go ahead and grab the

[8:11] bottom rung of the ladder you go ahead

[8:14] and grab the bottom rung of the ladder

[8:17] and just hang on and one day God will

[8:19] turn the ladder upside down and here is

[8:23] humble David just taking care of the

[8:25] sheep just being faithful right where he

[8:27] was and what God used him I had to be

[8:31] the next king of Israel he was a humble

[8:34] man let me encourage be a humble servant

[8:36] of the Lord listen never get too big for

[8:39] the little things hey I don't know who

[8:41] I'm speaking to today but hey even at

[8:44] home hey you're not too big to help with

[8:46] a dishes you're not too big to help out

[8:48] with the with the laundry you're not too

[8:51] big Itou to take out the trash

[8:54] you're not too

[8:54] big to feed the cat or whatever it is

[8:57] and you say well brother you say

[8:59] preacher those are insignificant thing

[9:01] that doing the dishes and insignificant

[9:02] I understand that but your willingness

[9:05] to do those lowly tasks and those what

[9:08] most would seem deem insignificant test

[9:11] your willingness to do those that is

[9:14] significant how many times have I been

[9:16] to maybe a youth rally or a youth

[9:18] meeting or maybe just a church

[9:20] fellowship somewhere and as soon as the

[9:22] the fellowship or the activity is over

[9:25] man people start fleeing like rats

[9:27] trying to flee a sinking ship and listen

[9:31] when an activity or something is over at

[9:34] church don't know and there's an

[9:36] opportunity to serve and don't be

[9:37] looking to get out you ought to be

[9:39] looking to get in man you want to be

[9:41] helping the tables and chairs and you

[9:42] want to help

[9:43] I grant somebody grab a mop and somebody

[9:45] grab a brew and and you want to say hey

[9:47] how can I help here and be a servant be

[9:51] a humble servant of the Lord and look to

[9:54] help and to serve others and be faithful

[9:56] right where you're at

[9:57] hey whether that's at home whether at

[9:59] that's at work whether that's at church

[10:02] always seek to just be a humble servant

[10:05] of the Lord and listen to me if nobody

[10:07] else sees it God sees it

[10:09] God uses people number one that are

[10:12] servants and God uses people number two

[10:15] that are humble can ask you a question

[10:18] today this humility characterize your

[10:20] life maybe you've gotten to a place

[10:23] where you find that you begin to think

[10:26] that you're too big to do the little

[10:27] things friend that's pride and the Bible

[10:30] says God resisteth the proud but he

[10:32] giveth grace unto the humble the table

[10:34] says humble thyself from the side of the

[10:36] Lord and He will lift you up listen

[10:39] friend God is attracted to humility and

[10:42] God uses humble people someone encourage

[10:45] you today just keep the Sheep I don't it

[10:49] doesn't matter what your title is it

[10:50] doesn't matter what your position is it

[10:53] doesn't matter what your role is never

[10:55] get too big to do the little things

[10:58] number one God chose David to be the

[11:01] king because first of all he was

[11:02] spiritual but number two he was humble

[11:05] let me encourage you today cultivate

[11:07] spend some time

[11:08] that a cultivating humility and if you

[11:11] feel like pride has crept into your life

[11:13] and it does for everybody then won't you

[11:15] ask the Lord to help you lord help me to

[11:17] just be a humble servant we're helping

[11:19] to just be a humble servant

[11:21] we'll help me to seek out opportunities

[11:22] where I can serve hey even if nobody

[11:25] else knows about it lord you'll know

[11:26] about it help me just to be a humble

[11:28] servant for you lord bless you today I

[11:31] hope this has been encouragement and a

[11:33] challenge to your life and the Lord

[11:35] bless you look forward to giving you one

[11:37] more devotion from 1st Samuel chapter 16

[11:40] Lord bless you have a great day
