[0:53] it's hard to believe but this is week

[0:54] number three in our series now we're in

[0:57] revelation

[0:58] chapter number 1 verses 7 through 11 and

[1:01] we don't know if we'll finish all of

[1:03] those verses today you say preacher

[1:05] that's a lot

[1:06] of time for just a short period well it

[1:09] is

[1:09] but i'm so excited to dive into it today

[1:13] get in the description of the video

[1:25] and we're gonna start off in revelation

[1:27] chapter number one

[1:29] verse number seven let's read it

[1:31] together the bible

[1:33] says behold he cometh with clouds and

[1:36] every eye shall see him

[1:37] and they also which pierced him and all

[1:40] kindreds of the earth

[1:41] shall wail because of him even so amen

[1:45] i am alpha and omega the beginning and

[1:48] the ending

[1:49] saith the lord which is and which was

[1:53] and which is to come the almighty i

[1:56] john who also am your brother and commit

[1:59] companion in tribulation and in the

[2:02] kingdom

[2:03] and patience of jesus christ was in the

[2:06] isle of that is called patmos

[2:08] for the word of god and for the

[2:10] testimony of jesus christ

[2:12] i was in the spirit on the lord's day

[2:15] and heard behind me a great voice as of

[2:17] a trumpet

[2:18] saying i am alpha and omega the first

[2:21] and the last and what thou seest write

[2:24] in a book

[2:25] and send it unto the seven churches

[2:27] which are in asia

[2:29] unto ephesus and under smyrna and under

[2:32] pergamus

[2:33] and under thyrotyra under sardis under

[2:36] philadelphia

[2:37] and unto laodicea i want to draw your

[2:40] attention to verse number seven where it

[2:42] says behold

[2:44] he cometh with the clouds the presence

[2:47] of the lord in the clouds

[2:49] you know clouds are interesting in

[2:50] scripture i don't know if you've ever

[2:52] taken the time to do a study dealing

[2:55] with clouds referenced in scripture but

[2:57] we know

[2:58] the lord is coming back in the clouds

[3:02] matthew 24 verse number 30 says this

[3:05] shall appear the sign of the son of man

[3:08] in heaven

[3:09] and then shall all the tribes of the

[3:10] earth mourn and they shall see the son

[3:13] of man

[3:13] coming in the clouds of heaven with

[3:16] power

[3:17] and great glory jesus saith unto them in

[3:21] matthew 26

[3:22] 64 he says unto them thou hast said

[3:25] nevertheless

[3:25] i say unto you hereafter shall ye see

[3:28] the son of man

[3:29] sitting on the right hand of power and

[3:32] coming in the clouds

[3:34] of heaven here in revelation chapter 1

[3:36] verse 7

[3:37] matthew 24 30 and matthew 26

[3:40] 64 we find that jesus is coming

[3:44] in the clouds in the clouds are so

[3:47] important

[3:48] let me tell you some other instances in

[3:50] in the clouds

[3:52] in exodus chapter 13 verse number 21

[3:55] the pillar of cloud led the nation of

[3:57] israel by day

[3:59] in exodus 34 5 the lord descended

[4:02] in the cloud in exodus 40 verse number

[4:05] 35

[4:07] the cloud abode over the tabernacle in

[4:10] leviticus 16

[4:11] 2 there was a cloud over the mercy seat

[4:14] and luke 9 34 a cloud descended upon

[4:18] jesus in the mount of transfiguration

[4:20] in acts 1 9 jesus ascends and the clouds

[4:24] receive him into glory

[4:26] in first thessalonians 4 17 the those of

[4:29] us that believe we'll be

[4:30] caught up together with him in the

[4:33] clouds

[4:34] to meet the lord in the air and so shall

[4:36] we ever be

[4:38] with the lord the clouds have played an

[4:40] interesting role in scripture

[4:42] those are just a few of the references

[4:44] this morning

[4:45] but in verse number seven the time frame

[4:47] of this verse is important we mention

[4:49] that in our

[4:50] timeline that we shared with you the

[4:52] last couple weeks

[4:53] that it says behold he cometh in the

[4:55] clouds and here's the

[4:56] key part of that next phrase and every

[5:00] eye shall see him verse number seven

[5:03] is referencing after the tribulation

[5:07] period

[5:08] the second coming of jesus christ

[5:12] verse number seven is not referencing

[5:14] the rapture

[5:15] but the revelation of jesus christ at

[5:18] the second coming

[5:20] when he descends from heaven in the

[5:22] clouds

[5:23] we know that every eye shall see him it

[5:25] continues on and they also which pierced

[5:28] him

[5:28] and all kindreds of the earth shall wail

[5:32] because of him the time frame every eye

[5:35] shall see him and we know that during

[5:37] the tribulation period

[5:38] everything's going to be centered around

[5:40] the nation of israel it'll be the focal

[5:42] point during the tribulation period

[5:44] also going into the millennial kingdom

[5:46] but we know that verse 7

[5:48] when jesus comes and comes back to this

[5:52] earth

[5:52] to rule and reign from jerusalem every

[5:55] eye is going to see him

[5:57] now long time ago people may have been

[5:59] wondering how's that going to happen

[6:01] but as you and i know with technology

[6:03] advances today we can live stream

[6:06] anything i mean right now there's zoos

[6:08] across the nation that are live

[6:10] streaming the birth of

[6:11] baby animals and you can watch this baby

[6:14] animal being born or the first few days

[6:16] of the baby animals live

[6:18] there are live streamed events all over

[6:20] the place and so

[6:21] live streaming has become a normal part

[6:23] of our daily

[6:24] life and so when it says that every eye

[6:27] shall see him

[6:27] immediately everyone will know it could

[6:30] be the population of earth

[6:31] sees him coming in the clouds it could

[6:33] be live streamed across the world that

[6:35] we see him coming

[6:36] but we know that he will be coming in

[6:39] the clouds

[6:40] it also talks about they also which

[6:43] pierced him

[6:43] and all kinders of the earth shall well

[6:45] before him

[6:46] those verses of scripture here remind us

[6:51] of

[6:52] something important the

[6:55] tribulation period is not about the

[6:57] church

[6:58] the tribulation period is all about

[7:01] fulfilling the 70th week of daniel

[7:03] and the nation of israel and so when

[7:06] jesus

[7:07] comes it's about israel it's the focus

[7:11] because

[7:11] they're the ones who pierced him they're

[7:13] the ones who commanded him to be

[7:15] crucified

[7:16] and all kindreds of the earth shall well

[7:18] because of him even so

[7:20] amen now the word amen means so be it

[7:23] so so be it it will wail because of him

[7:27] now continues on in verse number eight

[7:29] he says

[7:30] i am the alpha and omega

[7:33] now alpha and omega are the first to let

[7:36] or the first and the last letter of the

[7:38] greek alphabet

[7:40] we get our alphabet from the greek

[7:42] alphabet as well the first

[7:44] two letters alpha beta so alphabet

[7:47] the a b c's so alphabet and omega

[7:51] he's the beginning and the end he's the

[7:54] first

[7:54] and the last and so it emphasizes

[7:58] that and so now i want to draw your

[8:00] attention

[8:01] back to verse number four the bible

[8:04] tells us john to the seven churches

[8:06] which are in asia

[8:07] grace be unto you in peace from which he

[8:09] is and which was

[8:11] and which is to come now i want you to

[8:13] notice verse number eight

[8:14] of our passage today i am the alpha and

[8:17] omega the beginning and the

[8:19] ending saith lord which is and which was

[8:22] and which is to come the almighty

[8:26] verses four and eight you should

[8:28] underline these verses

[8:29] in your bible they show us an important

[8:32] truth now

[8:32] jesus is who we're referencing in verse

[8:35] eight

[8:36] in verse number four it was a

[8:38] description of god the father

[8:40] so here we find that god the father and

[8:42] jesus

[8:43] are one they are both together

[8:46] eternal both together omniscient both

[8:49] together almighty

[8:51] and if you can't help but see the

[8:53] preacher is about ready to have a

[8:54] preaching fit

[8:55] because he's talking about the god the

[8:57] father and jesus being

[8:59] the same it's important that we

[9:01] understand that

[9:02] today now i want to take us on a journey

[9:06] through verse number 9 and verse number

[9:08] 10.

[9:09] the bible says i john now the phrase i

[9:13] john is used three times in the book of

[9:15] revelation

[9:16] john is a participant not just

[9:20] sympathetic to their situation look what

[9:22] he says i john

[9:23] who also am your brother and companion

[9:27] in tribulation and in the kingdom and

[9:30] the patience of jesus christ

[9:33] john he's a specific person we know him

[9:35] to be john the beloved

[9:37] you say preacher why you emphasizing

[9:39] that he's a specific person

[9:40] just hang on just keep coming with me

[9:42] and we'll explain why

[9:44] so john he's a specific person now it

[9:47] tells us

[9:48] after he goes in that he's a brother

[9:50] companion in tribulation

[9:52] now the church at this time is going

[9:54] through a series of tribulation

[9:57] in fact john's been persecuted and he's

[10:00] been

[10:00] exiled to the isle of patmos and we'll

[10:02] talk about that here in just a moment

[10:05] but they've gone through tribulation

[10:07] john is not referencing the great

[10:09] tribulation

[10:10] he's referencing the persecution that

[10:12] they're experiencing

[10:13] right now notice secondly i want you to

[10:16] notice he says was in the isle that is

[10:18] called patmos

[10:19] that's a specific place now let me tell

[10:22] you a little bit about patmos

[10:24] patmos was a small greek island in the

[10:25] aegean sea

[10:27] that is six miles wide and 10 miles long

[10:30] if you were to walk around the perimeter

[10:33] you would travel

[10:34] 28 miles it's a crescent shaped

[10:37] island with horns to the west it's

[10:40] volcanic it's treeless it's a rocky

[10:44] island

[10:45] it's located 30 miles southwest of somos

[10:49] now during this time rome used it as a

[10:52] banishment form of punishment during the

[10:54] time of john

[10:56] and in fact history tells us that he was

[10:58] exiled by the roman emperor domitian

[11:00] about 95 a.d now today approximately 3

[11:05] 000 people live on the isle of patmos

[11:09] and in fact there are monuments there to

[11:12] john the beloved

[11:14] but during john's time he was there

[11:16] alone

[11:17] so you say why may you ask why the

[11:20] specific place

[11:21] well it continues to help us to

[11:24] understand the context

[11:26] of the next verse so john

[11:29] a specific person in a specific place

[11:32] called the isle of patmos now

[11:34] why is he there well the bible tells us

[11:36] what his sentence was

[11:38] he was exiled for the word of god and

[11:41] for the testimony

[11:42] of jesus christ so john's been exiled

[11:45] because of the word of god and the

[11:47] testimony of jesus christ

[11:50] now verse 10 john the writer

[11:54] john the person in a specific place

[11:58] now in verse 10 i was in the spirit

[12:01] on the lord's day the lord's day

[12:05] a specific day now there is some

[12:08] different

[12:09] teachings that revolve around this

[12:12] lord's day

[12:13] there is one teaching that reads that it

[12:16] they believe it to be

[12:17] the day of the lord now during the old

[12:20] testament time there is a referencing to

[12:22] the day of the lord

[12:23] that involves the tribulation and the

[12:26] millennial kingdom a thousand

[12:28] and seven year time frame now those that

[12:31] believe

[12:32] that john was transported on the lord's

[12:36] day

[12:36] to the day of the lord they said not

[12:38] only did john leave the aisle

[12:41] but they believed that john was

[12:43] transported into the future

[12:45] teleported into the future

[12:49] and got to see events that are future

[12:51] events to come

[12:53] now not only did he they say that he

[12:56] left the aisle but that they left

[12:58] time as we know it and went to the

[13:00] future

[13:02] and that he saw what he saw

[13:05] in that time frame now they believe that

[13:09] john time jumped to the future

[13:11] and that this is what's happening in

[13:13] verse number 10.

[13:15] the second teaching is that the lord's

[13:17] day here

[13:18] must be a sabbath day the sabbath day

[13:22] theory

[13:22] revolves that john is a jew therefore it

[13:25] must be a sabbath because that's when he

[13:27] would go to the temple

[13:29] that would have been true if

[13:33] something hadn't happened do you know

[13:35] what i'm talking about

[13:37] wonder what happened that changed

[13:39] everything

[13:41] from the sabbath day to another day

[13:45] i wonder what it was well in matthew

[13:48] chapter number 28 verse number one

[13:50] let's read that verse together in the

[13:53] end of the sabbath as it began to dawn

[13:55] toward the first day of the week

[13:57] came mary magdalene and the other

[13:59] married to see

[14:01] the sepulcher in john 20 19 the bible

[14:04] says then the same day at evening

[14:07] being the first day of the week when the

[14:10] doors were shut where the disciples were

[14:12] assembled for fear of the jews

[14:14] came jesus and stood in the midst and

[14:16] said unto them peace

[14:18] be unto you in acts 20 verse 7 and now

[14:21] upon the first day of the week

[14:23] when the disciples came together to

[14:24] break bad paul preached unto them

[14:27] ready to depart on the morrow and

[14:29] continued his speech until

[14:30] midnight you see the resurrection of

[14:33] jesus christ

[14:34] changed everything from the resurrection

[14:38] forward everything revolved around the

[14:41] first

[14:41] day of the week sunday the first day of

[14:44] the week

[14:45] the lord's day sunday in fact in first

[14:48] corinthians 16 2 the bible says

[14:50] upon the first day of the week let every

[14:53] one of you lay by him in store

[14:55] as god has prospered him that there be

[14:57] no gatherings when i come

[14:59] so we know that the lord's day is

[15:02] sunday now you say well preacher that's

[15:05] just your personal opinion well let me

[15:07] point out

[15:07] a few more things and then we'll

[15:10] conclude our video today

[15:12] the phrase itself on the lord's day

[15:16] i want you to pay attention to the

[15:18] screen now on

[15:20] it's the greek word in which means

[15:23] a fixed position not something that's

[15:26] theoretical

[15:27] but a fixed position it's a literal

[15:29] thing

[15:30] secondly the lord's it's the greek word

[15:33] kira cross

[15:35] kiros means belonging to the lord

[15:38] so the fixed day belonging to the lord a

[15:42] fixed position

[15:44] belonging to the lord the word day is

[15:46] henera

[15:47] which means the time between daylight

[15:49] and dark so if we take the grammatical

[15:52] structure

[15:53] of the phrases on the lord's day

[15:57] we find it to be this a fixed position

[16:00] of a day between daylight and dark

[16:03] that belongs to the lord well my friend

[16:06] there's only one day

[16:08] that we call that that sunday the lord's

[16:11] day

[16:12] and so verse number 10 john's in the

[16:15] spirit

[16:16] on the lord's day on sunday the spirit

[16:18] of god working upon his heart

[16:20] now john ought to be an encouragement to

[16:22] every believer no matter your situation

[16:24] you've never been exiled on an island no

[16:27] matter what you're going through being

[16:28] persecuted by

[16:30] a government no matter how many people

[16:32] are with you he's all alone on the aisle

[16:35] he's still taking time to worship the

[16:38] lord

[16:38] on the lord's day and so i encourage you

[16:42] don't be caught up in the things going

[16:44] on

[16:45] yes there's a lot of noise in the world

[16:47] today

[16:48] but don't get caught up in those keep

[16:50] the lord first matthew 6 33

[16:53] but seek ye first the kingdom of god

[16:56] if you get some time go read matthew

[16:58] chapter 6 verses 19

[17:00] through 34. it'll be an encouragement

[17:02] and a help and it all hinges on verse

[17:05] number 33.
