[0:06] US troops rang in Thanksgiving in the

[0:08] dark with their British counterparts at

[0:09] their side.

[0:10] >> Hands on their heads. Keep them quiet.

[0:13] >> As overnight raids seized more weapons

[0:15] and bomb making materials and rounded up

[0:17] as many as 80 suspected guerillas in the

[0:20] lawless area south of Baghdad. But what

[0:22] got Iraqis talking today was the news

[0:24] announced by the country's Minister of

[0:26] State.

[0:28] Through these chemical materials,

[0:30] they were manufacturing death.

[0:33] >> He claims Iraq's National Guard found a

[0:36] chemical weapons lab in Fallujah showing

[0:38] photographs of toxins lined up on shells

[0:41] and proudly told a news conference there

[0:43] were pamphlets that detailed the

[0:44] production of anthrax as well. But the

[0:47] US military had a different take on the

[0:50] very same discovery. Chemicals were

[0:52] found, they say, but they were used to

[0:53] make rather ordinary explosives, not

[0:56] chemical weapons. A big difference.

[0:58] >> There are many formulas on how to make

[1:00] explosives and how to make different

[1:01] types of poison.

[1:03] >> That kind of knowledge was put to use

[1:04] across the country again today. In

[1:06] Romani, mortars hit a home, injuring

[1:09] several people, including a child. And

[1:11] another hit just outside the Green Zone

[1:13] in Baghdad. It's the site of so many

[1:15] attacks against coalition forces. The

[1:18] most recent came yesterday with the

[1:20] shooting of a US civilian, James Mullen,

[1:22] an education consultant here. Terrorist

[1:25] leader Abu Masab al- Zakawi quickly took

[1:27] credit for the murder even as Iraqi

[1:29] officials were announcing another blow

[1:31] to his network. The capture by Iraqi

[1:33] troops of a top Zurkawi lieutenant in

[1:35] the embattled city of Mosul. Welcome

[1:38] news in a city that's taken such a rebel

[1:40] beating of late. It's the kind of

[1:42] progress US military commanders were

[1:45] giving thanks for here even as the

[1:47] battles waged on. Lee Cowan, CBS News,
