[0:20] is this the end

[0:22] [Music]

[0:24] where can one turn to find the answers

[0:28] to the questions within

[0:32] join us as we discover the truth

[0:37] in revelation revealed

[0:44] [Music]

[0:46] good morning and welcome to revelation

[0:48] revealed a ministry here at bible

[0:50] baptist church and

[0:52] we're excited today as you can tell when

[0:54] we're recording this video

[0:56] the rapture hasn't happened yet but it

[0:58] could happen at any moment but

[1:01] we're in revelation chapter four verses

[1:03] one through five today

[1:05] and so we're looking forward to diving

[1:07] in today to that message

[1:09] take you if you look with this in

[1:11] revelation chapter 4

[1:13] we're going to read those first five

[1:14] verses we talked about verse one

[1:16] last week but talk about verses two

[1:19] three four and five

[1:20] this week the bible says after this i

[1:23] looked and behold a door was opened in

[1:25] heaven

[1:26] and the first voice which i heard was as

[1:29] it were of a trumpet

[1:30] talking with me which said come up

[1:33] hither

[1:34] and i will show thee things which must

[1:36] be hereafter

[1:38] and immediately i was in the spirit

[1:41] and behold a throne was set in heaven

[1:44] and one sat on the throne and he that

[1:47] sat

[1:48] was to look upon like a jasper and a

[1:51] stone

[1:52] and there was a rainbow round about the

[1:54] throne inside likened to an emerald

[1:57] and round about the throne were four and

[2:00] 20 seats

[2:01] and upon the seats i saw four and twenty

[2:04] elders sitting

[2:05] clothed in white raymond they had on

[2:07] their heads crowns of gold

[2:10] and out of their throne preceded

[2:12] lightnings

[2:13] and thunderings and voices and there

[2:16] were seven lamps of fire burning before

[2:18] the throne

[2:19] which are the seven spirits of god

[2:24] here in our text today we find that john

[2:27] he's the writer remember

[2:28] is in the spirit he's in the spirit

[2:32] not physically present in heaven

[2:35] but he's in the spirit so the scene has

[2:37] changed

[2:38] he's been on the isle of patmos he's had

[2:41] visions that he's seen

[2:42] now in his spirit he's taken to heaven

[2:45] in his spirit

[2:46] so the scenery has changed there's a new

[2:49] scene here and it's heavenly

[2:51] and in the heavens he says that behold

[2:54] a throne was set in heaven the first

[2:57] thing he sees

[2:58] is the throne second thing he sees and

[3:01] one sat on the throne and then he begins

[3:04] to describe the one that's sitting there

[3:07] he said that he that sat was like to

[3:10] look upon

[3:11] like jasper and sardone stones

[3:14] so there's a throne in heaven there's

[3:17] one who sat on the throne now we

[3:19] must determine who that person is and

[3:21] the way that john does this is the way

[3:24] god

[3:24] gave him word pictures to describe

[3:28] the scene that he is seeing the first

[3:31] word

[3:32] picture is depicted here describing the

[3:34] one who sits on the throne

[3:36] a jasper and a sardine stone

[3:39] now these two stones are significant in

[3:42] their mentioning

[3:43] in exodus chapter number 28 we have

[3:46] mentioned the breastplate of judgment

[3:48] that the high priest wore

[3:50] god gave instructions for that

[3:52] breastplate

[3:54] the two stones are representative stones

[3:57] of the larger picture of the breastplate

[3:59] of judgment

[4:01] the judgment of god getting ready to

[4:03] take place

[4:04] now the two stones that are mentioned

[4:06] are interesting

[4:07] they're mentioning of the stones here

[4:11] are the sardis stone and the jasper

[4:14] stone

[4:16] now each stone on that breastplate of

[4:18] judgment there were 12 of them

[4:20] three and then four rows with that so

[4:23] three

[4:23] three three and three the twelve stones

[4:27] represented the 12 tribes of israel

[4:30] now it's interesting the sardone stone

[4:33] that represents

[4:34] reuben the tribe of reuben that's the

[4:37] first one

[4:38] it's the sargeras stone it's red in

[4:40] color in fact reuben's

[4:42] name means behold a

[4:45] sun behold a sun so we'll get to that

[4:48] here in just a moment

[4:49] it's interesting when you think about it

[4:51] the red stone

[4:53] being the first stone there the stone

[4:56] thinking about the first coming of jesus

[4:58] christ

[4:59] when he came to this world and he died

[5:01] on the cross and shed his blood

[5:03] for us the second stone is

[5:07] jasper which represented the tribe of

[5:10] benjamin the very last stone

[5:12] the last stone now it was a clear stone

[5:15] now the name

[5:16] benjamin means the son of my right hand

[5:20] so the word picture is that the one who

[5:22] sits on the throne

[5:24] has israel close to his heart and is

[5:27] sending a message about

[5:29] beholding the son of his right hand

[5:34] now revelation chapter 5 reveals to us

[5:37] that the lamb the lamb of god which is

[5:40] jesus christ

[5:42] is at the right hand jesus is the lamb

[5:45] and he's going to come in chapter 5 and

[5:48] present himself

[5:49] in the room and he's going to open up

[5:52] the book and we'll get to that later on

[5:55] but these two stones here are

[5:57] representing

[5:59] a word picture to us that the man

[6:01] sitting on the throne is god

[6:04] and god is the judge and this

[6:07] is not the wonderful merciless

[6:11] merciful savior pictured here

[6:14] but it is the judging god now he is the

[6:18] wonderful

[6:19] merciful savior but he's the judge

[6:22] as well so we've got the two stones

[6:25] pictured

[6:26] the next thing it mentions in our text

[6:29] is

[6:29] that it says that there was a rainbow

[6:33] round about the throne in sight likened

[6:36] to an emerald

[6:37] a rainbow signifying god's mercy the

[6:40] mercy of god

[6:42] the great tribulation is about to start

[6:45] god's wrath is about to be poured out on

[6:47] mankind

[6:48] but god is a merciful god in this case

[6:52] to the nation of israel who's still

[6:54] going to be on the face of the earth

[6:56] and the judgment of god that's getting

[6:57] ready to take place upon them

[6:59] but also as a christian we get to see

[7:02] this picture

[7:03] possibly the first thing that we see the

[7:05] bible talks about us being

[7:07] absent from the body and present with

[7:10] the lord

[7:11] we may wake up in the throne room of god

[7:14] and see this beautiful

[7:15] picture this rainbow that's roundabout

[7:18] revealing god's

[7:19] mercy but his mercy is also revealed

[7:23] to us as christians because we deserve

[7:25] the judgment of god for our sin

[7:27] but god's mercy and grace are on display

[7:30] it's described that it shines like an

[7:32] emerald emerald the color there is green

[7:35] representative of new life here on

[7:37] display is the

[7:39] new life in christ and also our new life

[7:42] eternally with him in heaven

[7:44] what a beautiful picture to see here

[7:47] the power of god the judgment of god

[7:51] the mercy and grace of god it's

[7:54] beautiful

[7:55] and it shines so bright that john's only

[7:58] description

[7:59] only way he can describe it is through

[8:01] these word pictures here

[8:04] you'll notice that not only does he

[8:05] describe it but he also talks about what

[8:08] else he's seeing he says round about the

[8:10] throne in verse four

[8:11] were four and twenty seats and upon the

[8:14] seats i saw four and twenty elders

[8:16] sitting

[8:17] clothed in white raiment and they had on

[8:19] their heads crowns of gold

[8:22] four and twenty seats and four and

[8:24] twenty elders is the next thing he

[8:26] describes

[8:28] now the seats here could be

[8:30] representative of thrones

[8:32] but there's not a great throne god is

[8:35] the one on the throne

[8:36] so the seats here tell us about the

[8:39] seating around

[8:40] possibly in the semi-circle type form

[8:43] the three views that are generally

[8:45] expressed though about the people

[8:46] sitting on the throne

[8:48] there's three views they represent the

[8:50] redeemed of all ages

[8:52] they represent a group of angels or they

[8:55] represent

[8:56] only the church age saints

[8:59] now as we look at our text you can see

[9:02] why people

[9:03] think those three different things but

[9:06] the bible is the greatest commentary on

[9:09] itself

[9:10] i can definitively say they are not

[9:13] angels revelation chapter 5

[9:15] verse 9 after the lamb has come and

[9:18] presented himself

[9:19] it says this they sung a new song saying

[9:22] thou art worthy to take the book to open

[9:25] the seals thereof

[9:26] for thou wast slain and hast redeemed

[9:29] us to god by the thy blood out of

[9:33] every kindred and tongue and people

[9:36] and nation it cannot be angels because

[9:39] angels are not redeemed at this time

[9:42] and so it must be saints people that

[9:45] have been

[9:45] saved now you'll notice in verse 9 of

[9:49] revelation chapter

[9:50] 5 i mentioned every kindred and tongue

[9:52] and people and nation

[9:54] i believe that the four and 20 elders

[9:57] here

[9:57] representative of the redeemed of all

[10:00] ages

[10:01] now it's interesting to think about

[10:02] there are 12 tribes

[10:04] and there are 12 apostles but the number

[10:07] 24 was used to set up the course of the

[10:09] priesthood during the time of david

[10:11] there were so many priests and they

[10:13] divided them into 24 courses

[10:16] 24 groups and a representative of each

[10:19] group would sit in the council

[10:21] of priests and they would represent the

[10:23] whole entire priesthood

[10:25] at different times the different courses

[10:28] would rotate their priestly

[10:29] duties so it's implied possibly that

[10:32] these 24

[10:33] are representatives of the redeemed

[10:36] throughout all ages it's amazing to

[10:39] think about now

[10:40] some would say well why can't it not be

[10:44] just the church age well the kindreds

[10:47] and tribes the different nations

[10:49] we know the church started with jesus

[10:52] and his disciples

[10:53] so jewish believers were the first

[10:55] people involved

[10:56] and then new testament gentile saints

[10:59] were also involved

[11:01] and so the redeemed of all ages i think

[11:03] it's indicative to us

[11:05] the importance of the nation of israel

[11:08] and the church the church being grafted

[11:11] into the family there

[11:12] and so it's important for us to remember

[11:15] that

[11:16] so i believe it's clearly taught here

[11:18] that it the 24 elders

[11:21] represent the redeemed of all ages

[11:24] now from the throne proceeds lightnings

[11:27] and thunderings and voices

[11:29] revealing god's power and judgment if

[11:31] you remember when moses went upon the

[11:33] mountain to receive the tablets you

[11:35] heard

[11:35] thunderings and lightnings and crying

[11:38] out of voices

[11:39] and so representing god's power and

[11:42] judgment

[11:43] it continues on and finishes and out of

[11:45] the throne preceding lightnings

[11:47] thunderings and voices there were seven

[11:49] lamps of fire burning before the throne

[11:52] which

[11:52] are the seven spirits of god the seven

[11:55] lamps of fire be

[11:57] before the throne are the seven spirits

[11:59] of god it tells us that in the text

[12:02] but we want to define what that is there

[12:04] are some that believe those are special

[12:06] angels but i don't think that is what

[12:08] it's saying here just as it is in

[12:09] chapter one

[12:10] it's representative of the holy spirit

[12:14] and his attributes and his workings now

[12:16] i want you to think about something for

[12:18] me

[12:19] this is the throne room of god the lamb

[12:21] is jesus christ sitting on the throne is

[12:23] god the father

[12:24] there's only one person of the trinity

[12:26] left that has not been

[12:28] discussed thus far it must be the holy

[12:31] spirit

[12:32] represented here now i want you to think

[12:34] about in your bible

[12:36] how did mankind know when the holy

[12:38] spirit came upon people

[12:40] well when jesus was baptized we saw the

[12:43] holy spirit descended like a

[12:45] dove and if the dove wasn't there they

[12:48] would not have known the holy spirit was

[12:50] there

[12:50] in the book of acts when the holy spirit

[12:52] became upon them at the day of pentecost

[12:55] they were like a cloven tongues like us

[12:57] unto fire

[12:58] the representative there showed the

[13:00] presence of the holy spirit

[13:02] the objects were needed so that mankind

[13:05] could

[13:06] see the working of the holy spirit

[13:10] here in revelation chapter 4 i believe

[13:12] it to be clearly the same thing

[13:14] the objects here the seven lamps of fire

[13:17] burning are representative to us so john

[13:20] could picture

[13:21] and see the working of the holy spirit

[13:25] it's such a beautiful scene this throne

[13:28] room of god

[13:29] now one writer once said that this

[13:31] throne room of god could possibly even

[13:33] be the

[13:33] bema judgment seat of christ and we

[13:36] could see that

[13:37] this throne has been set up for a

[13:39] purpose and a plan

[13:41] now look forward as we dive in over the

[13:44] next few weeks to talk more about

[13:45] chapter four and chapter 5

[13:47] some exciting things are coming down the

[13:50] line and we look forward to discussing

[13:52] them with you

[13:53] what a beautiful scene john saw

[13:56] magnificency but it reminds me of this

[14:00] that you and i must be ready the lord

[14:02] could come back

[14:03] at any time the rapture of the church is

[14:06] the next thing on god's prophetic

[14:08] calendar are you ready

[14:09] for the rapture of the church we look

[14:12] forward to seeing you next time

[14:14] here at revelation revealed thanks for

[14:16] stopping by

[14:17] and taking a look at our video in the

[14:19] description below are some downloadable

[14:21] notes

[14:22] thank you once again and until next time

[14:26] unless the lord comes we'll see you here

[14:28] on revelation reveal
