[0:05] This is the CBS Evening News. Susan

[0:07] Spencer reporting.

[0:09] Good evening. On Friday, amid all

[0:12] imaginable pomp and circumstance, George

[0:14] Herbert Walker Bush will become the

[0:16] country's 41st president, taking the

[0:18] oath on the same Bible that George

[0:20] Washington used. That detail will be

[0:22] perfect. Today, throngs of people were

[0:24] up at dawn to make sure that every other

[0:26] detail will be perfect, too. Ron Allen

[0:28] has more.

[0:31] >> While most of Washington slept this

[0:33] morning, the west front of the capital

[0:35] was alive with activity. The bsentennial

[0:38] inaugural committee staged a dress

[0:40] rehearsal for President-elect George

[0:42] Bush's moment in history Friday. The

[0:44] biggest and most expensive inaugural

[0:46] ever.

[0:47] >> To know that the members of the Marine

[0:48] Band have been here doing this for every

[0:50] president since Jefferson's time. It's a

[0:52] rather awesome feeling to be part of

[0:54] that.

[0:56] and 20-year-old Army Specialist Cliff

[0:58] Owens maintained a stern look as he

[1:01] arrived for the practice swearing in as

[1:03] the 41st president of the United States.

[1:05] It's

[1:06] >> like, hey, for these few minutes, I'm

[1:08] president of the United States. You

[1:09] know, everybody's consider the

[1:10] spotlights on me.

[1:11] >> On inaugural day, this stage will be

[1:13] filled with much of the country's

[1:15] political leadership while 140,000

[1:18] guests look on. Security will be

[1:20] extremely tight. The event will be

[1:22] broadcast live for several hours. This

[1:25] was the last chance to check for

[1:27] glitches.

[1:32] >> There will be only one home.

[1:37] >> We're looking at our bands. They're

[1:39] testing their music cues. We're also

[1:41] going
