[0:27] Hello, I'm Bob Ka. And the CNN computer
[0:29] connection is coming up next. First, a
[0:31] look at our top stories. President
[0:33] Clinton today personally delivered a
[0:34] message of support to US troops standing
[0:37] by for duty in Bosnia. At the US Army
[0:39] base at Bombolda, Germany, Mr. Clinton
[0:42] spoke to about 4,000 troops [music] of
[0:44] the First Armor Division and their
[0:45] families. The president reiterated the
[0:48] goals of the mission.
[0:50] I pledged to the American people that I
[0:53] would not send you to Bosnia unless I
[0:57] was absolutely sure that the goals we
[1:00] set for you are clear, realistic, and
[1:04] achievable in about a year. This mission
[1:08] meets those essential standards.
[1:12] I also vowed that you would not go to
[1:14] Bosnia until I was sure that we had done
[1:17] everything we could to minimize the
[1:20] risks to your safety.
[1:23] You know better than anyone that every
[1:26] deployment has risks. There could be
[1:29] accidents in a formally hostile
[1:32] environment. There could be incidents
[1:34] with people who have still not given up
[1:37] their hatred. As president, I take full
[1:41] responsibility for your well-being.
[1:44] >> About 700 US troops may begin arriving
[1:46] in Bosnia within a matter of days. A
[1:49] total of about 20,000 are expected to be
[1:51] in place by February. A Republican
[1:54] member of the Senate Armed Services
[1:56] Committee is urging national support for
[1:58] the US soldiers going to Bosnia
