[0:05] New violence in Iraq on the one-year

[0:07] anniversary of Saddam Hussein's capture.

[0:10] 13 Iraqis were killed this morning by a

[0:12] suicide bomber a day after seven US

[0:14] Marines died in a series of attacks. CBS

[0:17] News correspondent Kimberly Doer is live

[0:19] in Baghdad. Kim, good morning.

[0:22] Good morning, Renee. Yes, it is exactly

[0:24] a year to the day since US troops pulled

[0:27] Saddam Hussein out of his hiding place

[0:29] in Toree, an act US commanders hope

[0:31] would break the back of the insurgency

[0:33] here. But it hasn't exactly worked out

[0:36] that way.

[0:38] In Fallujah Alanbar province, where US

[0:40] Marines continue to try to pacify a

[0:42] guerilla insurgency, military officials

[0:45] say at least seven Marines were killed

[0:46] on Sunday. And this morning, there was

[0:49] another suicide car bombing at one of

[0:51] the many entrances to the Green Zone

[0:53] where the Iraqi government and the

[0:54] American coalition are headquartered.

[0:56] More than a dozen people are reported

[0:58] killed so far, with many more critically

[1:00] wounded. Saddam may have been captured,

[1:03] but US military intelligence sources now

[1:05] believe he masterminded this violence

[1:07] before the US invasion even began.

[1:10] Officials told US News and World Report

[1:12] that Saddam realized he wouldn't win, so

[1:14] he sent more than a thousand of his top

[1:16] military and intelligence officials for

[1:18] guerilla training. It's they who are

[1:20] allegedly carrying out the bulk of

[1:22] attacks here. One of Saddam's lawyers

[1:24] told CBS News that Saddam's jailed

[1:26] followers, including Terraiz, are also

[1:29] staging another type of rebellion, a

[1:31] hunger strike in their American prison.

[1:33] We haven't had a confirmation either

[1:35] way, but we do understand uh uh from um

[1:39] Mr. Aziz's lawyer, Mr. Bardia, that 11

[1:42] people are taking part in not taking

[1:45] some of the meals.

[1:46] >> US officials say the men are still

[1:48] eating at least one military ration a

[1:50] day, although some are symbolically

[1:52] rejecting hot food.

[1:55] US commanders say as for Saddam, he is

[1:58] eating three square meals a day, not

[2:00] taking part in the so-called hunger

[2:02] strike. Renee CBS's Kim Doer in Baghdad.

[2:05] Thanks, Kim.
