[17:15] to intercede for
[17:19] me no one else could ever love me like
[17:23] he
[17:25] can none but this man
[17:29] [Music]
[17:40] beneath the
[17:43] load he walked the
[17:46] road that led him up the hill to
[17:51] [Music]
[17:53] Calvary with all
[17:56] mankind Weighing on his his
[18:00] mind he hung upon a cross for all to
[18:07] see the battle raged as Darkness fell as
[18:11] the Victor over death and hell for every

[19:22] me no one else could ever love me like
[19:26] he can
[19:29] none but this
[19:34] [Music]
[19:42] man none but this man
[19:51] [Applause]
[20:05] we've sure enjoyed the day enjoyed
[20:07] getting to to meet you all and
[20:09] fellowship and so many good questions
[20:11] and thoughts and just fell right at home
[20:13] we sure appreciate that thankful for
[20:15] that looking forward to getting to
[20:16] preach for you all as well so if you
[20:18] would take your Bibles go to the book of
[20:21] Acts with me Acts chapter number 16 here
[20:24] this
[20:25] evening probably not an unfamiliar
[20:27] passage to many of us but that's all
[20:29] right those ones need preach too
[20:31] sometimes acts chapter 16 as you find
[20:33] your place if you would stand uh for the
[20:35] reading of God's word Acts chapter 16
[20:39] we'll begin reading there together in
[20:40] verse number
[20:43] 16 the Bible says and it came to pass as
[20:46] we went to prayer a certain damsel
[20:48] possessed with a spirit of divination
[20:50] met us which brought her Masters much
[20:53] gain by sooth saying the same followed
[20:56] Paul and us and cried saying these men
[20:59] are the Servants of the most high God
[21:01] which show unto us the way of Salvation
[21:04] and this did she many days but Paul
[21:07] being grieved turned and said to the
[21:09] spirit I command thee in the name of
[21:12] Jesus Christ to come out of her and he
[21:14] came out the same hour when her Masters
[21:17] saw that the hope of their gains was
[21:19] gone they caught Paul and Silas and Drew
[21:21] them into the marketplace under the
[21:23] rulers and brought them to the
[21:25] magistrate saying these men being Jews
[21:27] do exceeding trouble our city and teach
[21:30] Customs which are not lawful for us to
[21:32] receive neither to observe being Romans
[21:36] the multitude rose up together against
[21:38] them the magistrates rent off their
[21:40] clothes commanded to beat them when they
[21:43] laid many stripes upon them they cast
[21:45] them into prison charging the Jailer to
[21:48] keep them safely who having received
[21:52] such a charge thrust them into the inner
[21:55] prison and made their feet fast
[21:59] in the
[22:00] stalks I mentioned this passage being a
[22:02] familiar one and that and that's
[22:04] certainly true but what makes this
[22:06] passage so memorable so wonderful such a
[22:09] an exciting story in the life of Paul
[22:13] none of that really would have happened
[22:14] at all if Paul didn't care if Paul
[22:19] didn't care if Paul didn't see just the
[22:21] value of
[22:22] one Paul didn't care and folks do we
[22:25] care do we really care for the Lost
[22:30] heavenly father as we come before you
[22:31] tonight Lord have sure enjoyed the day
[22:33] enjoyed the sweet Fellowship the great
[22:35] preaching and singing Praise to your
[22:37] name but Lord help us once again tonight
[22:39] as we meet together Lord to meet with
[22:41] you to hear from you tonight help it to
[22:42] be your words not mine Lord help us to
[22:45] be ready to respond accordingly as you
[22:47] would lead Lord we love you thank you in
[22:49] Jesus name I pray amen you can be seated
[22:51] there folks thank you for
[22:53] standing Acts chapter 16 is a a very
[22:56] busy chapter uh a lot happens in Acts 16
[23:00] A lot's already happened before we even
[23:02] get to our text the Macedonian call it's
[23:06] kind of an important moment it's already
[23:07] taken place here in this chapter in the
[23:09] life of Paul he he saw that need the man
[23:11] in Macedonia and he was prepared to go
[23:13] to begin his next missionary journey to
[23:15] head that way and he's on this
[23:18] missionary journey with the young man
[23:19] Silas and he's been introduced to him in
[23:21] this chapter and begun his relationship
[23:24] with Timothy just been a busy chapter
[23:26] here in chapter 16 and they've now in
[23:29] the city of Philippi and the work has
[23:32] already been going they they've already
[23:33] seen Lydia saved her family the church
[23:36] the work going well that and I don't
[23:38] know if this is always true in your life
[23:41] it can often feel this way at least in
[23:42] mine that when everything seems to be
[23:44] going pretty
[23:46] smooth that's when trouble Finds Its way
[23:49] into your life right when we get
[23:50] comfortable everything's going okay
[23:53] almost too comfortable that's when
[23:55] trouble find that that's where Paul and
[23:56] Silas read things have been going good
[23:58] they've been preaching and praying
[24:00] seeing people saved the work is going
[24:02] well then we get to our text where
[24:05] trouble finds the two preachers in the
[24:07] way verse 16 the this woman comes to
[24:10] them who's possessed possessed with a a
[24:13] demonic Spirit that's given her some
[24:15] ability to be a soothsayer a fortune
[24:18] teller it's really quite a tragic
[24:20] situation to see unfold as she's in
[24:22] bondage to the spirit and not only that
[24:25] but she's also being used and abused by
[24:28] the wicked men that are using these
[24:30] abilities as a way to make money and
[24:32] this has gone on for some time it
[24:34] continues for a few more days and she
[24:37] follows Paul and Silas is dealing with
[24:39] them speaking with them kind of
[24:41] degrading the message that they're
[24:42] trying to Proclaim here in the city and
[24:45] none of us would would Bad Andy if Paul
[24:47] got angry with this woman or or
[24:49] frustrated with her or lashed out at her
[24:51] but really that's not his heart at all
[24:53] his heart is one of of grief of Sorrow
[24:56] it says in verse 18 that Paul being
[24:58] grieved heartbroken for sadden by the
[25:01] the condition the bondage that she's
[25:03] trapped in he takes action he takes pity
[25:06] on her he He commands that Spirit In The
[25:08] Name of Christ to come out of her and it
[25:11] comes out because no matter how powerful
[25:14] Satan thinks he is he has nothing on
[25:16] Jesus Christ and that's encouraging to a
[25:19] missionary going to a place like Japan
[25:21] that while Satan certainly has a a
[25:24] strong grip on all of our world we live
[25:26] in a wicked sinful world but being in a
[25:29] place like Japan it it opened my eyes to
[25:31] a whole other side of that coin I
[25:34] remember we went and visited a a city
[25:36] called otu it's right on the water
[25:38] beautiful city some of our most postcard
[25:41] worthy pictures were there in otaru I
[25:44] was showing one of the the young boys
[25:45] today that I had ice cream as big as my
[25:47] head and there was a fish head as big as
[25:49] the missionary's daughter that we found
[25:51] there in otaro really neat place but a
[25:53] very Wicked place no churches in otu and
[25:58] there there was just a Darkness there
[26:00] you it's hard to really understand
[26:01] unless you've been in a place like it
[26:03] before a foreign country a foreign land
[26:06] something like
[26:07] that but then we went up to this
[26:10] mountain it's called Mount tangu and at
[26:12] the top is a shrine to the tangu which
[26:15] is a demon and to this day not Japan 600
[26:20] years ago and fairy tales and folk Lords
[26:23] men and women people just like you and
[26:25] me that to this day 2024 will still
[26:29] climb this mountain to bring offerings
[26:31] money food alcohol to bring to the
[26:35] shrine of this Spirit to pacify him so
[26:39] that he'll protect them and their family
[26:41] from other worse
[26:42] Spirits it's
[26:44] heartbreaking to
[26:47] see but then I come to a passage like
[26:50] this and even though it's a a small
[26:52] moment here to see the the victory that
[26:54] comes through Christ that no matter how
[26:57] tight a grip the devil has on that that
[26:59] part of the world that he truly has
[27:01] nothing on Christ that they can have
[27:05] hope they can have Victory they can be
[27:07] freed from that bondage and while we
[27:10] would certainly Rejoice with this woman
[27:12] who's now been freed from that set apart
[27:14] from that not everybody in the story was
[27:17] so excited because her gainsayers the
[27:20] money changers there that were making
[27:22] money off her well they just lost their
[27:24] get-rich quick scheme just got taken
[27:26] away from them by these mean old preach
[27:28] here so they take action against them
[27:30] they begin to accuse them I mean we read
[27:33] through the text these Jews they're
[27:34] troubling our city how how can they get
[27:36] away with this they're teaching these
[27:38] Customs it's illegal for them to do this
[27:41] they get so angry and so frustrated with
[27:43] Paul and Silas that not only are they
[27:45] prepared to take physical action against
[27:47] them but they get the rest of the city
[27:50] all riled up and angry to take action
[27:52] right along with them these men are
[27:55] beaten their clothes ripped up they're
[27:58] their backs are
[28:00] whipped and finally they are chained up
[28:05] not even just their hands but their feet
[28:06] as well Shackled up in the stalks and
[28:09] off to the inner prison you go the inner
[28:13] prison not just any old prison the the
[28:15] nastiest the darkest the worst of the
[28:17] worst that Philippi had to offer all for
[28:20] two men of God who were just Faithfully
[28:21] doing what God wanted them to do they
[28:24] were going to pray going to preach and
[28:27] this is how they're rewarded how how
[28:30] would you feel doing what you're
[28:33] supposed to do and this is how you're
[28:35] treated I'm sure you folks are way more
[28:37] spiritual than me but I'd be a little
[28:39] upset if we're really honest we get a
[28:41] lot more upset over far less difficult
[28:44] circumstances we're often quick to get
[28:47] upset we we heard a little bit this
[28:49] morning about bitterness and
[28:52] anger none of us would have thought a
[28:54] thing if that was Paul's response to
[28:55] this treatment I remember even in my own
[28:58] life a time you know we spend a lot of
[29:00] time in hotels in our line of work kind
[29:02] of comes with being a missionary on
[29:04] deputation I I've had more Hotel
[29:06] breakfast than any one person should
[29:08] ever have to have in their
[29:10] life but it it kind of comes with the
[29:12] job but one time I'll never forget we
[29:14] were locked out of our hotel room and it
[29:17] wasn't just locked out because the key
[29:19] didn't work and I had to get a new one
[29:20] oh no I wouldn't got new keys those
[29:22] didn't work either it was late at night
[29:24] it was probably about 11: 11:30 we had
[29:26] been at a preachers meeting and then you
[29:27] know how preachers are we we stood
[29:29] around and talked afterwards then we had
[29:31] to go eat food and then we talked some
[29:32] more after the food so we got back very
[29:34] very late which means I was very tired
[29:37] and at the time I had two toddlers that
[29:39] were very very tired and you know how
[29:41] toddlers are when they're tired they're
[29:43] going to do everything in their power to
[29:46] not act tired which means they're just
[29:49] going to be running around making as
[29:50] much noise as yeah it was 11:30 it was
[29:52] late I was ready for them to be in bed
[29:54] but we get locked out so locked out that
[29:57] I had to call the Main maintenance guy
[29:58] who came and cut open a hole above our
[30:01] door of our hotel room to break into our
[30:03] room to get our stuff out it was a long
[30:07] night but while I was frustrated ready
[30:10] to pull my hair out my kids were just
[30:12] running around singing I've got the joy
[30:14] joy joy down
[30:16] and they never lost their Joy they never
[30:19] lost one not a step they were just happy
[30:21] to be awake it didn't matter if we were
[30:23] trapped out of our hotel room stuck on
[30:25] the side of the road they never lost
[30:27] their
[30:28] Joy but folks we're so quick to lose
[30:31] ours things don't go our way troubles
[30:33] come along in our life difficulties
[30:35] things we don't understand or don't want
[30:37] and instead of being quick to run to God
[30:39] in those trying times we often can get
[30:41] angry or frustrated or
[30:43] bitter none of us would have thought a
[30:45] thing if Paul's response was one of God
[30:48] why why why would you let this happen to
[30:50] me we've been Faithfully preaching in
[30:52] the city we've been doing what you
[30:53] called us to do to pray to preach we we
[30:55] just saw this woman freed from the
[30:57] bondage of the spirit and and this is
[30:59] what we get Shackled together thrown
[31:01] down into prison beaten closed torn up
[31:04] why I I don't understand we're just
[31:06] trying to do what you told us to
[31:09] do but that's not Paul's response at all
[31:13] maybe the response we expect but his
[31:15] real response is very different because
[31:17] in verse 25 the Bible says that at
[31:20] midnight Paul and Silas
[31:23] prayed they prayed and Sayang Praises
[31:26] unto God and the the
[31:28] prisoners heard
[31:30] them what a testimony in spite of the
[31:35] circumstances in spite of the the
[31:37] beating the pain the the blood the
[31:40] tearing of their clothes the
[31:42] ridicule they never lost their
[31:45] Joy
[31:46] why because these men knew that the same
[31:49] God that they were Faithfully serving in
[31:51] Philippi was just as much with them in
[31:53] prison he never left them he hadn't
[31:55] forgotten them or put them aside he was
[31:58] still good he was still faithful he's
[31:59] still worthy to be praised the the
[32:01] circumstances didn't determine their
[32:03] Christianity they were going to be
[32:05] faithful no matter
[32:07] what trusting God in the hard times just
[32:10] as much as they would in any other time
[32:13] he was still right there with them they
[32:17] prayed they sang praises to Him so loud
[32:20] that the other prisoners could hear them
[32:22] I I don't know if Paul was one of those
[32:24] epic preachers that can preach and sing
[32:27] but he was going to sing anyway sing so
[32:30] loud that everybody knew the God that he
[32:32] served everybody in that prison knew
[32:35] exactly who they loved the one true God
[32:38] they could hear the songs of those crazy
[32:40] preachers that by all accounts had no
[32:43] business singing and rejoicing but they
[32:45] still did because no matter what he's
[32:47] always worthy to be praised he's always
[32:49] good he's always faithful he's always
[32:52] holy and
[32:54] righteous I doubt they' had their
[32:56] watches set for 11:50 to start their
[32:59] song service they've probably been
[33:00] singing for some
[33:02] time what a
[33:05] testimony but their songs Don't Go
[33:07] unheard the other prisoners can hear
[33:09] them but God can hear them as well
[33:12] because suddenly in verse 26 it's really
[33:14] maybe maybe quite a coincidence that
[33:17] there's a great earthquake so that the
[33:21] foundations of the prison are shaken and
[33:23] immediately all the doors are open and
[33:27] everyone's banned
[33:28] were
[33:29] loosed now I know I'm in good company
[33:32] because I'm in Oklahoma because I'm from
[33:34] Kansas which means we're tornado
[33:38] people it's you know everybody else is
[33:40] way more scared of tornadoes than we are
[33:43] we were down in Florida last September
[33:45] and it was kind of hurricane is time
[33:48] period you know again I'm from Kansas I
[33:49] barely know what the ocean is so I have
[33:51] no idea how you deal with hurricanes or
[33:53] tropical storm stuff but I said Kansas
[33:56] and tornado and everyone in Florida just
[33:58] sto they like they couldn't imagine a
[34:01] tornado they were utterly terrified we
[34:03] sit on the porch and drink lemonade and
[34:05] watched the tornado
[34:07] it's but earthquakes I hadn't really
[34:10] ever been around earthquakes actually
[34:11] until I was at Hartland and I don't even
[34:13] know if it counts as an earthquake but
[34:16] it it was just enough to wake up me and
[34:18] my roommate who was also from Kansas
[34:20] which also means he had no clue what an
[34:21] earthquake was but it woke us up and we
[34:24] were raas and we were probably supposed
[34:26] to go check on the rest of our
[34:28] dorm but the earthquake
[34:31] lasted about that long so we pretty
[34:33] quickly just went back to bed I'm sure
[34:35] they're all fine we'll check on them
[34:36] later that was it for my earthquake
[34:39] experience very different from Paul's
[34:41] earthquake because Paul's earthquake was
[34:43] from the Lord so miraculous so powerful
[34:47] so perfect that I mean can you just
[34:48] imagine I mean what a story the doors
[34:51] blow open the chains that held these men
[34:55] together all fall to the ground they're
[34:58] free to go and if the story stopped
[35:01] right here we would all still remember
[35:03] this as one of the most incredible
[35:05] displays of the power and faithfulness
[35:07] of God in Paul's life what a story these
[35:11] men have started the the second
[35:12] missionary journey they've come to
[35:13] Philippi and they've seen the preaching
[35:15] of God's word take place people have
[35:17] gotten saved lives have been changed
[35:18] they've cast a spirit out of this woman
[35:21] because God's greater than the powers of
[35:22] Satan and then well they're falsely
[35:24] accused they're thrown into prison for
[35:26] just doing what God wanted them to do
[35:28] but God's greater than the walls of this
[35:30] Philippian jail the doors are blown off
[35:33] the shackles fall to the ground Paul
[35:34] could go home and tell everybody of the
[35:37] power and faithfulness of God and we
[35:38] would
[35:40] all remember this a great story powerful
[35:46] story but once again it's not where it
[35:49] ends because while we'd be excited we'd
[35:52] Rejoice that just Paul and Silas they
[35:55] walk out they are free to go the chains
[35:57] are off why would you stay what prisoner
[36:00] stays in jail the chains are off the
[36:02] doors are
[36:03] open they're probably going to
[36:06] leave but not everybody was as excited
[36:10] as Paul and
[36:12] Silas because in verse 27 we see that
[36:15] the keeper of the
[36:16] prison
[36:18] awaking out of his
[36:20] sleep seeing the prison doors open he
[36:23] drew out his
[36:25] sword and would have killed himself
[36:29] supposing that the
[36:30] prisoners had been
[36:34] fled story takes quite a drastic
[36:38] turn goes from a moment of
[36:41] rejoicing
[36:43] Victory it's really quite a a sad
[36:47] moment me personally I've not spent any
[36:49] time in the the military or anything
[36:51] like that if anyone here has I'm sure
[36:54] there's at least one please correct me
[36:55] if I'm wrong but my understanding is
[36:58] falling asleep on guard
[36:59] duty is not a good
[37:03] idea well this man had see back at verse
[37:07] 23 he was given a command a duty keep
[37:12] watch keep watch it's pretty simple job
[37:15] but an important one if you're put in
[37:16] charge of the inner prison the worst of
[37:18] the worst the nastiest of guys don't let
[37:21] him Escape that's your
[37:24] job but he failed
[37:27] he fell
[37:28] asleep can you just picture I mean the
[37:32] fear of just just waking
[37:40] up you could face serious consequences
[37:43] for just waking up you fell asleep
[37:46] you're already in big trouble there'll
[37:48] be consequences to be paid but then
[37:51] there's a whole other level of fear of
[37:56] Shame
[37:58] pain guilt because not only did this man
[38:01] wake
[38:03] up but when he woke up he saw the doors
[38:06] are
[38:08] open and again what prisoner stays in
[38:11] jail the doors are open and the guard
[38:13] was
[38:15] asleep they're
[38:17] gone I
[38:19] failed and in this culture the this time
[38:22] period this Jailer isn't just thinking
[38:25] oops I guess I messed up oh well well
[38:29] it's probably not that big a deal well
[38:31] who cares no no no this was serious this
[38:35] was a serious offense that he will face
[38:37] serious consequences for he was trusted
[38:39] with this it's his commandment it was
[38:41] his duty his job that he was trusted
[38:44] with keep watch he was put in charge of
[38:47] these men in the inner prison and he has
[38:51] failed and he believes with everything
[38:53] in him that the only way to be forgiven
[38:56] the only way to to write this wrong to
[38:59] pay the price for his wrongdoing is to
[39:01] take his own
[39:04] life and the man draws his sword and is
[39:07] prepared to do just that he's ready to
[39:10] end it all he thinks there is no other
[39:13] way there is no future there is no hope
[39:17] how can I ever make this right besides
[39:22] this and where this passage time and
[39:24] again continues to to hit home with me
[39:27] is that that mindset is exactly the same
[39:31] in
[39:32] Japan now we spoke about it some this
[39:34] morning even in the question answer time
[39:35] about the suicide and just the scope of
[39:38] it all Japan it has the highest suicide
[39:41] rate in the
[39:43] world and I mentioned this morning that
[39:45] the suicide it's
[39:47] kids 20 and under is the majority it's
[39:51] young people teenagers college kids that
[39:53] just like this man believe they have no
[39:56] hope they have no future they have
[39:58] nothing to live for the the price for
[40:00] failure is very very high the price for
[40:04] shame for Guilt dishonoring your family
[40:08] like this man that they don't just think
[40:10] Oops I messed up no it's I'm the mistake
[40:13] and the only way to be forgiven the only
[40:14] way to write this wrong is to take the
[40:17] mistake away that's what he's prepared
[40:20] to
[40:23] do that's what young
[40:25] people who've never never heard the
[40:28] gospel young Japanese people young
[40:31] families young men young women believe
[40:33] the exact same
[40:36] thing folks the need is
[40:41] great and
[40:42] thankfully this story doesn't end here
[40:45] either because while this man believes
[40:48] he has no hope nobody loves him nobody
[40:51] could ever forgive
[40:52] him there's a voice that will cry out to
[40:55] him through the darkness of that
[40:57] Philippian jail that will tell him how
[41:00] he can have
[41:02] hope but Paul verse 28 but Paul cried
[41:06] with a loud voice saying do thyself no
[41:09] harm for we are all here we're all
[41:14] here the man couldn't believe it it says
[41:17] he called for a light I mean what what
[41:19] would be your response if you heard some
[41:22] voice cry out to you in the darkness
[41:24] when you thought you were all alone
[41:27] I don't know if you've been in a in a
[41:28] church or even in your house you hear
[41:30] like a little creek or the wind or a
[41:32] tree or something it gets a little
[41:33] spooky at night it was midnight he was
[41:35] all by himself and he hears stop we're
[41:37] still
[41:38] here he couldn't believe it he he grabs
[41:41] a light the Bible says he came in
[41:44] trembling shaking with fear and
[41:46] disbelief that anybody would even still
[41:48] be here at
[41:50] all but there they are those crazy
[41:54] preachers that have been singing All
[41:55] Night Long
[41:58] falls down before them and he brings
[42:00] them out and he asks them the question
[42:02] I'm sure many of us could quote in here
[42:03] tonight from verse 30
[42:05] sir what must I do to be
[42:10] saved and they said believe on the Lord
[42:12] Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved in
[42:16] thy
[42:19] house this man just couldn't understand
[42:23] why would you stay for
[42:24] me the doors are open
[42:27] I was
[42:29] asleep why didn't you
[42:31] leave why didn't you leave nobody would
[42:35] have stopped you nobody would have
[42:36] thought a thing about it if you just
[42:37] walked out and left me to pay the price
[42:40] for my
[42:41] failure why would you stay for
[42:45] me maybe there really is something
[42:48] different about you
[42:50] too maybe there's something different
[42:52] about that God you've been singing about
[42:54] all night maybe there's something
[42:56] different about that Jes Jesus that you
[42:57] were preaching in the streets that he
[42:59] raised from the dead
[43:04] that that he died for
[43:07] me you know there there was that woman
[43:09] that you were talking to and she was
[43:10] acting so strange has been bothering
[43:13] people for days but then but then you
[43:14] talked to her and something changed in
[43:16] her
[43:19] life why would you stay for
[43:24] me you see folks the god that we serve
[43:28] he's distinctly different from anything
[43:30] else in this world he's completely and
[43:34] wholly
[43:36] different I remember going to the Shinto
[43:39] temple with my wife one of the last days
[43:41] we were in Japan to see just the the
[43:44] vastness of this place and the history
[43:47] that's there I mean how it's withstood
[43:49] all that snow for hundreds of years a
[43:51] thousand years and it's still there all
[43:53] the original
[43:54] pieces but it's really quite tragic to
[43:57] walk through and to just see the the
[43:59] empty religious
[44:01] routine people just coming to to check
[44:04] the religious
[44:05] box well this is where you buy the
[44:08] pieces of wood to write prayers on so
[44:10] that those prayers can be burned and
[44:12] sent up to the gods you have to pay to
[44:15] pray aren't you thankful a pastor didn't
[44:17] get any credit card information before
[44:19] we prayed tonight to welcome no we don't
[44:22] have to do
[44:25] that you also have to buy your fortunes
[44:28] buy this buy that and give offerings and
[44:30] stuff
[44:32] still if that wasn't enough for me one
[44:35] of the hardest things was to watch at
[44:36] 4:00 sharp a Shinto priest would come
[44:39] from kind of the the holy of holies type
[44:42] area in their Temple out to the
[44:43] Courtyard where we were and at 4:00 he
[44:46] began to pound on this drum and that
[44:49] signaled for everybody to leave go home
[44:53] get out of here hope you got your
[44:55] praying done hope you got your offerings
[44:56] given because now your access is
[44:59] closed go home come back
[45:05] tomorrow we're well past four o00 but
[45:07] we're still here you know why because we
[45:10] don't serve a dead God that's right we
[45:11] don't have just an empty religious
[45:13] routine we serve the Living God Amen the
[45:16] one who sent his only let beg God Son
[45:18] eight8 million gods in Shinto none of
[45:21] them love you but the one true God loves
[45:23] you so much that he gave his only
[45:25] begotten son to die on the cross to pay
[45:28] the price for your sin in mind that we
[45:29] through him could have eternal life he's
[45:31] distinctly different he loves you he
[45:33] desires to have a personal relationship
[45:36] with you he's faithful he's good he's
[45:38] holy he's distinctly different that's
[45:41] what's going through this man's head
[45:43] he's heard of the Gods of Philippi he's
[45:45] heard of all of the priests and the
[45:46] religions the theology all these
[45:48] different things that Philippi has to
[45:50] offer but none of those men would have
[45:52] cared for him nobody else would have
[45:53] stayed for him but there was something
[45:55] different about Paul there's something
[45:57] different about his God there's
[45:58] something different about Jesus he cares
[46:01] he loves
[46:02] you Paul cared
[46:05] stop I know you think you have no
[46:08] hope but let me tell you how you can
[46:10] have
[46:12] hope
[46:13] s how can I know that
[46:17] God Paul didn't say well you got to be a
[46:20] good
[46:21] person well you got to really dress a
[46:23] certain way well you got to write a
[46:25] really big check to let's see Paul the
[46:28] Apostle all right hand that no no no no
[46:30] it was believe believe on the Lord Jesus
[46:33] Christ and thou shalt be
[46:37] saved and the details given there at the
[46:39] end of verse 31 is house well they don't
[46:42] just magically get saved because he got
[46:45] saved they aren't grandfather then I I
[46:46] like to think he went home LED his
[46:48] family to the Lord I mean what a night
[46:52] probably not what he expected when he
[46:53] clocked in that
[46:55] day but not only was his life changed
[46:57] but his whole family his wife children
[47:01] lives all totally
[47:04] changed but none of that
[47:06] happens none of that
[47:08] happens if Paul doesn't
[47:12] care and really for most of us the story
[47:15] wouldn't be any different we'd still
[47:18] love this
[47:19] story Paul walks out chains are off
[47:22] doors were open who cares what happens
[47:24] to the guard and in fact we
[47:27] we kind of like it when the bad guy
[47:30] loses that's the best part of a lot of
[47:32] stories right you read the book of
[47:34] Esther and hmon gets what's coming to
[47:36] him at the
[47:37] end that's the best part the good guys
[47:40] right off into the sunset the credits
[47:42] roll and everything's perfectly fine
[47:45] none of us would have thought a thing
[47:47] well he got what he deserved serves him
[47:50] right punishment fits the crime he fell
[47:53] asleep well he's the one who put Paul in
[47:56] there in the first place he tightened
[47:57] those chains he whipped his
[48:00] back why would he care about him he's
[48:03] just some
[48:04] Jailer he's not even named Philippian
[48:08] Jailer that's it why would anybody care
[48:10] about
[48:13] him but because Paul did
[48:16] care he stopped he could have just
[48:19] walked out he could have just gone on
[48:21] about his day and moved on but Paul took
[48:24] the time to go back
[48:27] to stop a man he he saw a man who was
[48:29] prepared to end his life and to spend
[48:31] the rest of Eternity in a sinner's hell
[48:33] separated from God forever but Paul
[48:36] cared enough to go to him to stop him to
[48:39] tell him how he could know Christ as his
[48:41] Savior and because Paul did that because
[48:43] one person cared about the spiritual
[48:46] condition of one other person Not only
[48:49] was that man's life changed but his
[48:52] whole family gets
[48:55] saved the church had Philippi got quite
[48:57] a few new members that
[48:59] day if you read the book of Philippians
[49:01] very a very special Church to Paul right
[49:04] a church that that loved Paul that g
[49:07] that gave to take care of Paul that
[49:09] prayed for him that that knew how much
[49:11] Paul cared for
[49:13] them but that doesn't happen if Paul
[49:16] just walks
[49:18] out no Paul saw the
[49:21] need and he had
[49:23] compassion he saw the need what need the
[49:25] need for Jesus Christ
[49:27] the need for a savior and he had enough
[49:29] compassion on him he cared he loved him
[49:31] to go to
[49:33] him to tell
[49:37] them but folks do we
[49:39] care do we
[49:43] care because there's
[49:45] people
[49:47] everywhere
[49:49] people people are
[49:53] weird people are interesting I I used to
[49:56] work at a shopping mall I had two jobs
[49:58] in college at a shopping mall that'll
[50:00] teach you real quick people are
[50:02] weird I had young people in my youth
[50:04] group and I was a youth pastor that
[50:06] worked at Walmart you learn pretty quick
[50:07] people are weird I worked as a FedEx
[50:11] driver people are
[50:14] weird but Jesus Christ really loves
[50:17] people so much that he died for
[50:20] people but pretty
[50:22] often all those people around us can
[50:25] just kind of become background knowing
[50:28] we don't really think about them they're
[50:30] just kind of there just other cars on
[50:33] the
[50:34] road just other houses may maybe I'm
[50:36] weird I know I'm weird my wife tells me
[50:38] a lot but has it ever really sunk in
[50:41] that as you look at at other houses that
[50:43] people live
[50:46] there big brain thought right other
[50:49] people live there they had Thanksgiving
[50:51] there little kids open their their
[50:53] Christmas presents on Christmas morning
[50:54] in that house and that house and that
[50:56] house they have wives and grandparents
[50:59] and children they have jobs they go
[51:01] grocery shopping they're people they're
[51:03] real living breathing people just like
[51:05] you and me that have the exact same need
[51:07] that each of us had the need for a
[51:10] savior but those same people that we
[51:13] walk by in Walmart the same people that
[51:14] we drive by we shake our fist hand and
[51:16] get angry at those bad Oklahoma Drivers
[51:18] those weird other customers at the store
[51:20] my annoying co-workers rude neighbors
[51:22] crazy
[51:24] family but they're people
[51:27] they're
[51:29] people if we don't care about them who
[51:41] will doesn't mean you always have to
[51:43] agree with
[51:44] them no I think you should take a stand
[51:46] for what's right and don't ever be
[51:49] ashamed of that Paul wouldn't
[51:52] have but we still need to love
[51:54] him to care for him
[51:58] a lot of times they don't expect
[52:00] that when I worked at Chick-fil-A we're
[52:03] all spiritual Heartland students
[52:06] work I had a young man that I worked
[52:08] with in the back who asked me once if I
[52:12] hated him it really it really took me by
[52:15] surprise what why do you even think that
[52:18] why of course I don't hate you what do
[52:20] you I'd worked with him for years at
[52:21] this point but he saidwell I I think
[52:24] homosexual marriage is okay
[52:28] and he thought because he knew I believe
[52:30] different from him well then surely I
[52:33] must hate
[52:34] him I told him Bren I don't hate
[52:37] you Jesus doesn't hate him I don't agree
[52:41] with
[52:41] him but I don't hate
[52:44] him he's a sinner in need of his savior
[52:47] just like I was just like you
[52:50] were do we see the need do we do we see
[52:54] people the way that Christ sees people
[52:56] people the way that Paul saw this man
[53:00] because our tendency is to look at that
[53:01] weird cashier with different colored
[53:03] hair at Walmart and maybe just go to the
[53:05] self
[53:06] checkout to not even take the time to
[53:08] learn your waitress's
[53:10] name it's pretty it's pretty hard to
[53:13] give somebody a track if you were really
[53:15] rude to them if you threw a fit because
[53:18] they got your order wrong or misspelled
[53:19] your name on your coffee cup I'm sorry
[53:22] but it's pretty it's pretty hard to give
[53:23] them a track if you were a really bad
[53:25] customer it's not a very good
[53:28] testimony do those co-workers really
[53:30] know that you live different that you
[53:32] act different does your neighbor know
[53:34] where you go on
[53:37] Sundays there's
[53:39] people people all around us and
[53:41] sometimes you you may be the best gospel
[53:43] they ever hear you may be the only
[53:45] chance they ever have there there's
[53:46] people in your life that you meet that
[53:48] you know that he'll never meet right
[53:50] they'll never talk to
[53:52] him ever but they know you right they
[53:56] know you God's put you in places with
[54:00] people for a
[54:02] reason I was a FedEx guy I mentioned
[54:04] that about four and a half years I love
[54:07] the job great job um but you know we we
[54:10] get all kinds of guys all different
[54:12] walks of life all different
[54:14] backgrounds I mean you name it I
[54:16] probably rode with him in a truck for
[54:17] eight hours chefs musicians military
[54:20] firefighters I mean
[54:22] anything but a lot of times it was guys
[54:24] who were coming looking for the magic
[54:26] job where you do no work and make a lot
[54:28] of
[54:28] money it wasn't FedEx if you found it
[54:32] let the rest of us know but I can tell
[54:33] you it wasn't
[54:34] FedEx so that means a lot of those guys
[54:37] would maybe make it a day maybe two but
[54:41] a lot one
[54:44] day one day means I've only got one
[54:48] chance I may be the only gospel they
[54:51] ever hear the only invitation to church
[54:53] they ever get the only person who took
[54:55] the time enough out of their today to
[54:57] care about
[54:59] them we know it's real easy for me to
[55:01] say well I just don't feel good
[55:03] today well we just our personalities
[55:06] just don't click I'm no I don't want to
[55:08] talk to them they're weird they smell
[55:11] bad I don't like how they look I don't
[55:13] like their politics I don't like this I
[55:14] don't like that we can make any number
[55:16] of excuses Under the Sun but so often
[55:19] the only thing really stopping us from
[55:21] being the witness we ought to be is
[55:24] us one day one chance that coworker may
[55:28] not be there on Monday the neighbor
[55:30] you've had forever might move away I I
[55:34] even think of my dad he would go to
[55:37] Quick Trip every Sunday before men's
[55:39] prayer get a cup of
[55:41] coffee just a quick trip cup of coffee
[55:44] he probably could have gone to an actual
[55:45] coffee shop but he went to quick trip
[55:48] but every Sunday he had the same guy the
[55:50] same cashier his name was Dennis for
[55:53] years this went on nobody else is weird
[55:55] or crazy enough to be a quick trip at
[55:57] 7:15 in the morning but there was my dad
[55:59] there was Dennis forced to work there so
[56:02] they would talk my dad invited him to
[56:04] church and witnessed to him a little bit
[56:06] here and there just got to know him over
[56:07] the years found out kind of his story
[56:09] why he'd moved there they he'd moved
[56:11] from out of state but they like the same
[56:12] sports team you know they kind of became
[56:14] friends and I I'd love to tell you
[56:16] church that Dennis came and got saved
[56:18] and his whole family and it was awesome
[56:20] but that didn't happen we're we're not
[56:24] responsible for the end result but we
[56:25] are called to be faithful to be a
[56:28] witness to give every person the best
[56:31] chance they'll ever have to take the
[56:33] gospel to them and Dennis moved away
[56:36] he's not there anymore but the point is
[56:38] folks who's the Dennis in your
[56:42] life who's the dentist in your life who
[56:45] do you work with who do you see all the
[56:47] time don't let them just be background
[56:49] noise don't let him just go by because
[56:52] look at the
[56:54] difference that one person person can
[56:57] make Paul cared he could have just
[57:00] walked out nobody would have blamed him
[57:03] but he stopped he took the time out of
[57:05] his day to care to see the need in that
[57:09] man's life the same need that anybody
[57:11] else in Philippi had this man had the
[57:13] same need so he went to him he had
[57:16] compassion on him he shared the gospel
[57:17] with him and he got saved his family got
[57:19] saved who knows the countless number of
[57:22] individuals in Philippi that were led to
[57:24] Christ by the jailer but none of that
[57:27] happened if Paul didn't
[57:29] care you've got a vacation bible school
[57:31] coming up at the end of
[57:33] July we'll never know the impact of just
[57:36] one
[57:38] kid his dad was a bus kid
[57:43] right but because someone took his dad
[57:45] to church he got saved he's pastored
[57:49] taught at Heartland I probably wouldn't
[57:50] be here without his dad taught me at
[57:52] school he's here pastoring witnessing to
[57:55] you all all because somebody picked up a
[57:58] Ed Pearson on the bus route probably was
[58:01] wicked and disobedient crawling around
[58:03] under the seats being a
[58:05] terror I'll tell him that when I see
[58:09] him after pastoral advice
[58:14] after but because somebody cared about
[58:17] him look at what God can
[58:20] do will you see the neede will you have
[58:24] compassion Lord as we come before
[58:26] tonight Lord so thankful God that
[58:28] somebody saw the need for Christ in each
[58:30] of Our Lives Lord the people that are
[58:32] here Lord we wouldn't be here if
[58:33] somebody didn't care enough about us to
[58:35] invite us to church to share the gospel
[58:37] with us we're all here because of
[58:40] somebody but Lord there's people all
[58:42] throughout our lives people that you've
[58:43] put there on
[58:45] purpose Lord that need you that need you
[58:49] just as much as anybody in
[58:51] Japan Lord there's people right here
[58:53] that need you Lord help us us to see
[58:56] those people the way that you
[58:58] do Lord that they're just sinners in
[59:00] need of a
[59:03] savior Lord maybe there's someone here
[59:06] tonight that like this Jailer Lord
[59:08] believes they have no hope they have no
[59:10] future Lord help them to come forward
[59:12] tonight Lord to recognize their their
[59:14] real need is the need for Christ Lord if
[59:17] there's ever been a time and place in
[59:19] their life they trusted in Christ as
[59:20] Savior Lord help tonight to be that
[59:21] night for them Lord I pray you bless the
[59:24] time of invitation now help us to
[59:25] respond Jesus name I pray amen
[59:31] Pastor We Stand
[59:33] Together God dealing with your
[59:36] heart business with God tonight
[59:41] [Music]
[59:55] [Music]
[60:07] is there a
[60:08] face when he talked about dentist that
[60:11] came to your
[60:12] mind is there your
[60:15] dentist person at your gas station
[60:18] person at your coffee
[60:22] house do you even know
[60:26] if they're saved or
[60:28] not why
[60:30] not it's probably because we haven't
[60:36] asked second Corinthians tells us the
[60:39] love of Christ constrain
[60:42] us when you get arrested by Christ and
[60:46] the love of Christ you can't
[60:48] help but share it with someone
[60:51] else you can't help but talk to others
[60:56] that very same passage the love of
[60:57] Christ could strenth us so that he would
[60:59] die for many he says therefore If any
[61:02] man be in Christ he's a new
[61:05] creature when Christ changed you the
[61:08] love of Christ constrained you it
[61:11] changes your
[61:14] life how about it
[61:17] tonight their face their
[61:20] name God brought to your
[61:24] minded and made let's do a couple things
[61:27] let's
[61:29] pray and then
[61:31] let's pursue them this next
[61:35] week talk to them about what God has for
[61:39] them thou now you know the words sing it
[61:42] with tonight heav
[61:46] pure is th heart right with God
[61:53] it is thy soul wearing the Garment of
[62:00] white is thy heart right with
[62:08] God is th heart right with
[62:15] God wased in the
[62:19] crimon
[62:23] flood cleansed and made
[62:27] holy humble and
[62:31] LLY right in
[62:35] the god May quietly be seated and all
[62:39] God's people said man I want to thank
[62:41] you for being in the Lord's House
[62:43] tonight and thank you for your
[62:44] faithfulness to the Lord I know some of
[62:47] you participated earlier in the love
[62:49] offering tonight but if you did not get
[62:51] to participate we'll have ushers at both
[62:53] doors with offering plates if you'd like
[62:55] to participate and you didn't get to
[62:57] participate earlier we want to be a
[62:59] blessing to the missionary and his
[63:00] family and so how many of you got a
[63:02] prayer card today you got a prayer card
[63:04] for missionary all right if you didn't
[63:05] get one make sure you get one also make
[63:07] sure you look at the new baby because
[63:09] she's not on the card so you can commit
[63:11] it to memory all right but also tonight
[63:14] I I want to challenge the church this
[63:16] week to onp purpose pray for The Parkers
[63:20] so if you got a pen get it out because
[63:23] we're getting ready to take two prayer
[63:24] requests from Brother Jack and two from
[63:27] his wife now if he didn't tell her
[63:29] that's not my fault I told him this
[63:31] afternoon I said let your wife know I'm
[63:33] going to ask her for two personal prayer
[63:35] requests so we can pray this week for
[63:37] her so miss Lizzie did you have two
[63:40] requests for us to pray for you this
[63:43] week
[63:53] okay okay
[64:14] okay sure okay so I heard your prayer
[64:17] request in case you didn't hear so you
[64:19] wants to learn the next two the two
[64:21] alphabets the two primary alphabets we
[64:23] heard this morning there's three but the
[64:25] two primary alphabets in the next few
[64:27] months so that's going to take some
[64:30] concerned prayer for her all right so
[64:32] let's pray in that area also she asked
[64:34] as a mom and as a wife the transition
[64:37] for her family as they move to Japan so
[64:40] let's begin praying for that and commit
[64:43] to do that on purpose this week so what
[64:44] I'm asking you to do is on purpose take
[64:47] her request make intercessory prayer for
[64:49] her this week and do it intentionally so
[64:53] take a prayer card pray those requests
[64:55] brother Jack did you have
[65:01] two
[65:14] okay okay
[65:44] okay
[65:47] okay so those who couldn't hear him he's
[65:49] preaching VBS at his home church and he
[65:51] going to be preaching that week so he's
[65:52] finishing up the messages and want to
[65:54] have an impact in in his home church and
[65:57] then also secondly the paperwork process
[66:00] now I haven't been involved as a
[66:01] missionary but I've talked to a lot of
[66:03] missionaries and I feel that that's a
[66:04] very stressful very difficult process
[66:08] and Devils loves to mess that up for
[66:11] missionaries and so let's pray extra for
[66:13] the paperwork process the finalizing of
[66:15] everything getting their visas and
[66:17] everything ready for that so if you
[66:19] would this week on purpose don't just
[66:22] look at their prayer card but on purpose
[66:24] take it out and and pray for these
[66:27] requests because here is it three or
[66:29] four weeks you're in Arkansas about
[66:31] three weeks it's about three weeks he's
[66:34] going to be with my dad in Arkansas so
[66:36] maybe we can follow up and see how the
[66:38] Lord's been working on that and so we'll
[66:40] be excited to hear about that so you be
[66:42] in prayer for them as they travel headed
[66:45] back to Kansas tomorrow and so pray for
[66:47] traveling mercies for them as well and
[66:50] especially traveling with little
[66:52] ones they need extra prayer anyone
[66:55] that's ever traveled with little ones
[66:57] knows they need extra prayer and so you
[67:00] pray for them as they travel tomorrow
[67:02] all right brother the park of you and
[67:03] your family make your way out to your
[67:05] table and excited about that how many of
[67:07] you remember last missions conference
[67:09] brother dick and miss Karen Webster
[67:10] being with us and doing our missions
[67:13] conference last year brother Webster uh
[67:15] manages the global Independent Baptist
[67:17] missions office and they take care of
[67:20] all the paperwork so with brother Parker
[67:22] they help with the paperwork they help
[67:24] with the support C coming in and getting
[67:26] it to the missionaries accounts and all
[67:28] of that stuff and when brother Webster
[67:31] was here he talked about a need uh for
[67:33] the missions office the missions office
[67:35] got a new office space and so they're so
[67:38] excited about it because it's going to
[67:40] allow them to be involved in helping
[67:42] more missionaries and so they're super
[67:44] excited about that but they still got
[67:47] rent they got to pay on that it's just
[67:49] part of having an office you got to pay
[67:51] the light bill you got to pay the rent
[67:54] and all of that stuff and so I've been
[67:55] praying about it for quite a while and I
[67:58] do believe the Lord has led me to
[68:01] recommend to the church that we take on
[68:03] the Websters at the mission's office to
[68:05] help the missionaries with the paperwork
[68:08] and getting everything mailed getting
[68:10] everything taken care of getting the
[68:12] missionaries their insurance keeping
[68:14] everything up to date so we want to
[68:16] recommend that we take on the missions
[68:18] office for the Independent Baptist
[68:20] missionaries but also we have extra
[68:23] missions money coming in so thankful for
[68:25] you giv to missions and the increase
[68:27] that's happened in our church in our
[68:29] missions budget and we have an excess
[68:32] right now in our missions budget and we
[68:34] heard this morning that they're at 71%
[68:37] and they want to get to the field by the
[68:38] end of the year or by the first part of
[68:40] next year and I think God wants to use
[68:43] our church to help them get there and so
[68:45] all in favor of taking on The Parkers to
[68:47] help them be one of our missionaries let
[68:49] it be known by good hearty amen amen all
[68:51] right all those in favor taking on the
[68:53] missions office to help the missions
[68:54] office let it be known by a good hearty
[68:57] amen man well we're going to be excited
[68:59] for them because that's going to help
[69:01] and get them closer to the field and
[69:03] Japan and we're excited for what God's
[69:05] doing in them and through them and I'm
[69:07] excited for you being here tonight and
[69:10] uh before we're dismissed Brother Sam
[69:12] you come and uh we haven't done this in
[69:16] a while because I was in the hospital
[69:19] and rehab for a few months so if you've
[69:22] had a birthday in the month of June
[69:25] the month of June you have a birthday in
[69:28] the month of June would you please stand
[69:32] you had a birthday in the month of June
[69:35] all right got a few more standing few
[69:38] more standing got some over there all
[69:39] right so uh brother Charlie turned 25
[69:42] again and so um so he's excited about
[69:46] that but we're going to sing Happy
[69:47] Birthday to all these folks and then
[69:49] right after we sing happy birthday
[69:51] brother Samuel's going to lead us in a
[69:52] course for our dismissal song so
[69:59] happy birthday to you happy birthday to
[70:06] you happy birthday God bless
[70:11] you Happy Birthday to
[70:16] You oftentimes the day seems long our
[70:19] trials can be hard to bear and we're
[70:21] tempted to complain to murmur and
[70:23] despair but there is one in Heaven who
[70:25] knows our deepest care Let Jesus solve
[70:27] your problem just go to him in prayer
[70:29] we'll be dismissed with the chorus of
[70:30] song number two it will be worth it all
[70:33] when we see Jesus on that
[70:36] chorus
[70:38] it
[70:39] will
[70:41] be worth it
[70:44] all when we see
[70:49] Jesus life's trials will seem so
[70:53] small when when we see
[70:58] Christ one glimpse of his dear
[71:03] face all sorrow will
[71:08] heas so bravely run the
[71:13] race till we see
[71:19] Christ you are dismissed
