[0:01] We're following breaking news out of

[0:02] Southern California right now. Crews are

[0:04] on scene of a new brush fire burning in

[0:06] the San Clemente area. People living

[0:09] nearby are being told to evacuate. This

[0:11] all happening while the region is

[0:13] getting hit hard with hot temperatures

[0:15] and strong winds that are also fueling

[0:18] several other wildfires, including in

[0:19] Malibu and brush fires northeast of LA

[0:22] and near Camp Pendleton. That's in uh

[0:24] San Bernardino County. That's pro,

[0:26] excuse me, that's in San Diego County.

[0:28] that's prompting evacuations on part of

[0:30] the military base there. I want to bring

[0:32] in meteorologist Jessica Burch because

[0:34] it's important to have some context. All

[0:35] of these brush fires are actually pretty

[0:37] far apart. It sounds like they're close

[0:39] together. Southern California is a big

[0:40] place, but it just goes to show it's hot

[0:43] and those Santa Ana winds are impacting

[0:45] a really big part of the state right

[0:47] now.

[0:47] >> Exactly. And you take a look at just

[0:49] that live imagery we saw a second ago.

[0:51] Look how fast that smoke is moving along

[0:53] that region as well. Now, of course, as

[0:55] that air continues to move from high to

[0:57] low elevation, low elevation, it heats

[0:59] up, it dries up, and we're continuing to

[1:00] keep a close eye on our friends down in

[1:02] s Southern California with the Santa Ana

[1:04] winds still impacting them today. That

[1:05] offshore wind is noticed anywhere from

[1:07] the Bay Area stretched all the way down

[1:09] into this region as well. Relative

[1:11] humidity in the overnight hours, we're

[1:12] not getting that good overnight recovery

[1:14] process that we're used to with that

[1:15] onshore breeze. We're seeing relative

[1:17] humidity drop anywhere down to 5 to 10%

[1:19] at times. And of course those winds,

[1:21] we've seen them anywhere up to around 60

[1:23] miles per hour and we're still dealing

[1:25] with that as we head into this weekend's

[1:26] forecast. Now, so the National Weather

[1:27] Service, they're starting to expire some

[1:29] of those red flag warnings up in

[1:30] Northern California along the Sierra and

[1:32] up into the Bay. We're also starting to

[1:34] see some of those high wind warnings

[1:35] over into Arizona and Nevada get

[1:36] expired, but there's still some critical

[1:38] areas we want to keep a close eye on

[1:40] heading into this weekend's forecast.

[1:41] Anywhere up to around 50 mile per hour

[1:42] winds are forecasted near Santa Clarita

[1:44] as that pushes offshore into the

[1:46] afternoon and evening hours tonight.

[1:47] Notice how along that Los Los Angeles

[1:49] basin, we see the wind died down into

[1:51] our Saturday afternoon forecast, too.

[1:53] But it still stays breezy just along

[1:54] those foothills and up into the

[1:55] mountains close to Santa Clarita. Those

[1:57] are the areas we're going to keep a

[1:58] close eye on, especially as these brush

[2:00] fires are popping up. You saw that

[2:02] imagery earlier. It is moving fast

[2:04] throughout this region. Those winds

[2:05] pushing offshore. So, that's something

[2:06] we want to keep a close eye on for our

[2:08] friends down in Southern California.

[2:09] Now, that fire weather outlook today

[2:10] still highlights much of the Sierra

[2:12] stretched up into Northern California,

[2:14] too, in northern parts of the Bay Area

[2:16] near Napa and Sonoma. But by tomorrow,

[2:18] we really just want to keep a close eye

[2:19] on our friends down in Southern

[2:20] California as that fire weather outlook

[2:22] shows elevated risk off throughout that

[2:24] region.

[2:25] Jess, thank you for
