[0:11] This is one of the most dangerous

[0:13] hurricanes in years and it's hitting

[0:15] right here, right now, all along the

[0:18] Gulf

[0:19] Coast. Hurricane Opal, powerful winds,

[0:23] driving rain, flooding, forces thousands

[0:27] to evacuate the area.

[0:30] This is the CBS Evening News with Dan

[0:34] Rather.

[0:36] Good evening from the Gulf Coast. Taking

[0:39] a pounding tonight from a powerful and

[0:42] extremely dangerous hurricane. Hurricane

[0:45] warnings are up from the mouth of the

[0:47] Mississippi to western Florida above

[0:50] Tampa. We'll be reporting this very

[1:37] the thousands who tried to leave

[1:38] Pensacola, but ended up at local

[1:41] shelters. We're scared. We're afraid

[1:43] that there's not going to be anything

[1:44] left. It's pretty bad. Mandatory

[1:46] evacuation. All coastal areas were

[1:48] ordered evacuated. Residents hurried to

[1:51] leave before bridges to the mainland

[1:53] closed.

[1:54] Only food stay over here when the

[1:56] hurricane's on its way.

[1:58] There wasn't much time to

[2:00] prepare. Stores were packed with people

[2:03] trying to stock up on supplies. Power
