[0:00] Washington and Iraq. Let's switch to
[0:01] Peter Jennings and ABC.
[0:05] Their ammunition is actually going in
[0:08] the sky. Um, just tell you just before
[0:11] there was Peter, did you hear that big
[0:12] explosion there? Yes, Bill. We're
[0:15] hearing a a series we're hearing a
[0:17] series of very loud explosions now out
[0:19] on the edge of town and uh seeing
[0:22] anti-aircraft fire going up on all sides
[0:24] of us here. Some of it overhead. Day two
[0:27] of the air. In your experience today,
[0:29] Bill, how close have the bombing come to
[0:33] the center of Baghdad? And how far out
[0:35] can you tell this is?
[0:39] Well, it's come very close to the
[0:41] center. About 5 and a half hours ago, we
[0:43] had an enormous um very loud series of
[0:46] explosions right here around the
[0:47] Al-Rashid Hotel. In fact, not far from
[0:50] the Ministry of Information, perhaps
[0:52] only three or four blocks away where
[0:53] these cruise missiles came in.
[0:56] We understand that some government
[0:57] offices were hit here. These uh judging
[1:00] by the the time it takes the explosion
[1:03] to reach our ears after we see the flash
[1:05] may be more than a mile away from the
[1:07] center of town here. But these are very
[1:09] big explosions. We understand, of
[1:11] course, from Jack McQuey at the Pentagon
[1:12] that these are air launched cruise
[1:14] missiles which carry the heavier uh
[1:17] payload of 2,000 lbs. So they're very
[1:20] serious business when they hit. And
[1:22] we're now seeing a number of these red
[1:24] tracers dancing. There's another flash
[1:26] on the horizon and uh it's just behind
[1:28] this building. We can't see exactly
[1:30] where it's hitting, but you'll hear the
[1:31] big boom again in abou
