[0:00] See you back here at 6.

[0:03] >> From ABC, this [music] is World News

[0:06] Tonight with Peter Jennings.

[0:07] >> Good evening. In the last 24 hours of

[0:09] war, the Iraqis say that one of the

[0:11] Allied prisoners of war has been killed

[0:13] during an Allied bombing raid on a

[0:15] government building in Baghdad. The oil

[0:17] slick in the Persian Gulf is spreading

[0:18] out and still moving south towards Saudi

[0:21] Arabia. And more Iraqi aircraft have

[0:23] left the battle altogether and taken off

[0:26] for Iran, which is the subject with

[0:28] which we begin. First at the Pentagon,

[0:30] ABC's Bob Zelnik.

[0:33] >> According to the Pentagon, about a dozen

[0:35] Iraqi aircraft fled to Iran during the

[0:37] past 24 hours. Overall, Iraq has sent at

[0:58] with them. Therefore, it is more

[1:00] difficult for them to participate in a

[1:02] battle. So, from my perspective, yes, I

[1:04] see it as a as a net plus for the

[1:06] coalition.

[1:07] >> But Pentagon officials privately

[1:08] expressed concern about the 30 transport

[1:11] planes also sent to Iran since these

[1:13] could well have carried weapons and

[1:15] spare parts for later use by the

[1:17] fighters. Military officials say Iran's

[1:20] airfields are now being closely

[1:22] monitored by satellite and Awax radar

[1:24] planes to make sure the Iraqi planes do

[1:26] not move any closer to US ground or

[1:29] naval forces than they are now.

[1:31] >> They're further away now from American
