[0:02] >> 35 words that the nation and much of the

[0:05] world stop to hear.

[0:07] >> I, William Jefferson Clinton, do

[0:10] solemnly swear that I will faithfully

[0:13] execute the office of President of the

[0:16] United States and will to the best of my

[0:19] ability preserve, protect and defend the

[0:22] Constitution of the United States. So

[0:24] help me God.

[0:26] >> Congratulations. And when it was over,

[0:28] Bill Clinton was president.

[0:32] Tonight, we follow the turning page of

[1:23] couple of the land would saunter over to

[1:25] engage in a little quiet, private

[1:28] chitchat. It will perhaps come as some

[1:30] small comfort to those of you who chose

[1:32] to stay home tonight that the president

[1:35] and first lady are limited in the time

[1:37] they can spend at any inaugural ball,

[1:39] let alone with any small group. These

[1:42] are very, very crowded affairs which

[1:45] sometimes appear more glittering from a

[1:47] distance than close up. That said, this

[1:51] has been a great day. That's not a

[1:54] partisan statement. It is an

[1:55] appreciation of the political miracle by

[1:58] which power is transferred in this
