[9:02] prayer and looking forward to spending

[9:05] more time talking about that tonight and

[9:08] uh hopefully uh those of you who take

[9:11] notes will came ready to take notes

[9:13] tonight there some good things and had a

[9:16] I enjoyed a a book this week that

[9:19] dealing with Psalm 56 and just some

[9:22] really good thoughts out of that uh so a

[9:25] couple quotes that I'll be sharing later

[9:26] on tonight in that uh in the message

[9:29] tonight Psalm

[9:31] 56 and we're going to read through the

[9:33] whole chapter uh this evening and then

[9:36] we'll have a word of prayer and then

[9:38] I'll give you some background uh also

[9:40] about the psalm so if you're able would

[9:42] you please stand in honor the word of

[9:43] God as we read from Psalm

[9:47] 56 beginning in verse number one of

[9:50] Psalm 56 be merciful unto me oh God for

[9:54] man would swallow me up he fighting

[9:57] daily oppresseth me my enemies would

[10:00] daily swallow me up for they be many

[10:02] that fight against me oh thou most high

[10:07] what time I am afraid I will trust in

[10:10] thee in God I will praise His word in

[10:15] God I have put my trust I will not fear

[10:19] what flesh can do unto me every day they

[10:24] rest my words all their thoughts are

[10:28] against me me for evil they gather

[12:22] right before we get into the verses

[12:25] there is an introduction into this

[12:27] chapter says to the chief

[12:29] musician upon the jonath Elum Recon

[12:33] mikum of David when the Philistines took

[12:36] him in

[12:38] gath the big long word there the jonath

[12:41] Elum

[12:43] Ram is

[12:46] interesting it talks about the word

[12:48] itself meaning a song of a

[12:52] dove it appears that it is either a

[12:56] tune that this song was song was sung

[13:00] too or it

[13:02] references possibly a

[13:05] key that the song was sung

[13:11] to we don't have a definitive answer for

[13:14] you on that it could be the one I don't

[13:17] know of the tune jonath Elum

[13:22] Ram it could have been a song that was

[13:25] familiar during that time that is lost

[13:29] it could also refer to the terminology

[13:32] of the song of the dove which many times

[13:35] doves sang in a minor they they there

[13:39] their chirping their vocal was in a

[13:42] minor key it could have been something

[13:44] referencing a minor key of how this

[13:46] Psalm was sung in worship I don't have

[13:50] the definitive answer on which one it is

[13:53] it could be either of those or it could

[13:55] be something else but it appears that it

[13:59] was on purpose to be after that jonath

[14:04] Elum

[14:06] ryam but the next part of that mentions

[14:09] when David was the Philistines took him

[14:11] to gath and that's recorded for us in

[14:13] 1st Samuel 21 so leave a marker here in

[14:23] flees from Saul he's been run on the run

[14:26] from Saul and he's Saul's gotten angered

[14:31] after David and they came to Samuel and

[14:38] frustrating to Saul because God was

[14:41] protecting

[14:43] David and then David comes to Knob in

[14:47] 1st Samuel 21 to helc the priest and the

[14:52] alc was afraid at the meeting of

[14:55] David verse one and said unto him why

[14:58] Art Thou thou alone and no

[15:02] man with

[15:04] thee this guy himc is

[15:10] afraid David has arrived here in 1st

[15:12] Samuel 21 he's

[15:14] arrived and there's nobody else with him

[15:17] but IMC knows that Saul and the others

[15:21] have been after David and he arrives and

[15:23] David said unto helc the priest verse

[15:27] business and hath said unto me let no

[15:29] man know anything of the business

[15:31] whereabout I send thee and what I have

[15:33] commanded thee and I have appointed my

[15:35] servants to such and such a place now

[15:38] therefore what is under thine hand give

[15:40] me five loaves of bread in mine hand or

[15:43] what there is present and the priest

[15:46] answered David and said there is no

[15:48] common bread under mine hand but there

[15:51] is hollowed bread if the young men have

[15:54] kept themselves at least from women and

[15:57] David answered the priest and said to

[15:59] him of a truth women have been kept from

[16:02] us about three three days since I came

[16:06] out and the vessels of the young men are

[16:08] holy and the bread is in the manner

[16:10] common ye though it were Sanctified this

[16:13] day in the vessel so the priest gave him

[16:16] hollowed bread for there was no bread

[16:18] there but the showbread that was taken

[16:21] from before the Lord to put hot bread in

[16:24] the day when it was taken away so he

[16:27] brings and he gives gives to David the

[16:30] bread that set aside for the worship

[16:32] there in the

[16:34] Tabernacle the showbread and he feeds

[16:36] David and David's on the run and Saul

[16:39] sent David on an errand and then he sent

[16:41] soldiers after Saul after David and so

[16:44] they've been chasing him around and

[16:46] trying to kill him in 1 Samuel 21 we

[16:49] find this this account that's given to

[16:52] us of Saul being on after David and

[16:55] David being on the run and David comes

[16:57] to IMC and now he's asking him for food

[17:00] because he's hungry and he asked him for

[17:03] a sword is there a sword or a spear here

[17:06] limc says there is a sword here it's the

[17:09] one you use to kill

[17:11] Goliath it's wrapped up behind the

[17:15] ephod and so David takes the sword that

[17:18] he killed Goliath with straps it on and

[17:22] he goes to the

[17:24] town in verse

[17:26] 10 let's read and David Rose and fled

[17:28] that day for fear of Saul and went to

[17:31] akish the king

[17:34] of gath now if you remember Goliath

[17:37] Goliath is Goliath of gath he David's on

[17:42] the run and he goes to the Philistine

[17:43] Country Now imagine this in your mind he

[17:46] walks into the Philistine City strapped

[17:50] with Goliath's sword that he killed

[17:53] Goliath

[17:55] with do you think that's a little

[17:57] nerve-wracking

[17:59] he comes to a place where they have said

[18:02] of David that David arrives and look at

[18:05] verse 11 and the Servants of aus said

[18:07] unto him is not this David the king of

[18:13] hath slain his thousands and David his

[18:18] thousands and David laid up these words

[18:20] in his heart and was sore afraid of

[18:28] run from Saul cuz he's

[18:30] afraid on the run from Saul's soldiers

[18:33] cuz he's afraid now he's in gath and

[18:36] he's afraid of the king and Afraid of

[18:39] the

[18:40] Philistines he's a little bit fearful so

[18:42] what's his response well let's look at

[18:44] verse 13 and he changed his behavior

[18:46] before them and fed himself mad in their

[18:50] hands and scrabbled on the doors of the

[18:52] gate and let spittle fall down upon his

[18:55] beard then said aish unto his servants

[18:57] Lo ye see this man is mad he's

[19:01] crazy wherefore then have you brought

[19:04] him to me have I need of Mad Men that ye

[19:07] have brought this fellow to play the mad

[19:09] man in my presence shall this fellow

[19:12] come into my house the next verse of

[19:16] chapter 22 David therefore departed then

[19:18] and escaped to the cave of

[19:22] adullam would you agree that David in

[19:27] this moment in 1st Samuel 2 one was

[19:31] afraid I mean the Bible said it multiple

[19:34] times for fear of he was afraid

[19:38] of David was afraid and so he under the

[19:41] inspiration of God pinned Psalm

[19:45] 53 or excuse me Psalm 56 I should have

[19:48] said and he writes be merciful unto me

[19:51] oh God for man would swallow me up he

[19:55] fighting daily oppresseth Me Mine

[19:57] enemies would daily swallow me up for

[20:00] they be many that fight against me oh

[20:02] thou most high what time I am afraid so

[20:07] David's afraid David's fearful and

[20:10] tonight as we look into the life of

[20:13] David we need to understand an important

[20:18] Truth David in this moment in his life

[20:21] he's very

[20:23] vulnerable in this moment in David's

[20:25] life he's in a precarious situation

[20:29] in this moment in David's life he's

[20:31] almost defenseless I mean he's got the

[20:33] sword of Goliath but he's still pretty

[20:36] pretty fearful pretty

[20:38] afraid and in that moment of

[20:40] vulnerability in the moment of being in

[20:42] the Gap in the moment of being on the

[20:44] Run David's feelings have overtaken

[20:47] him and now he's

[20:50] fearful and when you and I have moments

[20:52] of vulnerability in our life there are

[20:56] some things that we ought to consider

[20:59] and we ought to be able to pray in our

[21:03] moments of

[21:06] vulnerability so in our first three

[21:09] verses he writes and David is number one

[21:13] tonight acknowledging

[21:16] fear he's acknowledging fear he says be

[21:19] merciful unto me oh God for man would

[21:21] swallow me

[21:23] up the the language there overtake him

[21:28] overwhelm him swallow me up make me

[21:33] disappear that's David's feelings he

[21:36] fighting daily oppress me they're all

[21:38] the time daily oppressing Me Mine

[21:40] enemies would daily swallow me up daily

[21:45] it's not a one-time event it's

[21:48] daily the last few days especially for

[21:51] David I've been filled with

[21:53] fear here's the interesting thing

[21:56] feelings are strange

[21:59] things they don't have to be accurate to

[22:03] be

[22:05] influential I'll say that again in case

[22:07] you missed it feelings are strange

[22:11] things they don't have to be accurate to

[22:15] be

[22:16] influential now in David's case was he

[22:19] on the run from people trying to kill

[22:21] him absolutely was David fearful

[22:24] absolutely was David afraid absolutely

[22:27] was David's life on on the line

[22:29] absolutely but

[22:32] sometimes we are

[22:35] not in as precarious situations as David

[22:40] but yet our feelings make us feel like

[22:42] we're going to be swallowed up and we're

[22:45] overwhelmed and in that moment we need

[22:48] to learn to pray

[22:51] through to pray

[22:53] through so if Psalm 563 ended what time

[22:58] I I am

[23:00] afraid we could all relate to

[23:03] David there are moments in our life that

[23:05] are

[23:06] fearful there are moments in our life

[23:08] that are

[23:09] overwhelming but the verse continues on

[23:12] he says I will trust in thee as a person

[23:19] who knows the Lord as a person who has a

[23:22] relationship with God David understood

[23:25] that fear and faith will collide

[23:29] fear and faith will

[23:31] collide you'll notice the verse says

[23:34] what time I am afraid people will be

[23:40] fearful when my kids were

[23:45] little they used to be afraid of the

[23:48] dark now that my kids are older they're

[23:51] not afraid of the dark they're afraid of

[23:53] what's in the

[23:57] dark is different there's still there's

[23:59] still fearful there there there's a fear

[24:02] there and fear and faith will collide

[24:04] and In This Moment David says what time

[24:06] I am afraid I will trust in thee John

[24:10] Kitchen in his book praying through said

[24:12] this it's very good listen to it we need

[24:14] to pray through to the place where we

[24:19] know whether or not our emotions are

[24:23] appropriate to the facts but we'll never

[24:27] get to that place place without first

[24:31] acknowledging what we are

[24:34] feeling we need to pray through to the

[24:36] place where we know whether or not our

[24:39] emotions are appropriate to the

[24:42] facts but we'll never get to that place

[24:45] without first

[24:47] acknowledging what we are

[24:50] feeling David's in this moment in his

[24:52] life he's fearful he's afraid you ever

[24:54] had moments in your life where your your

[24:55] feelings overtook you you're emotions

[24:59] overwhelmed

[25:00] you you have to trust in the

[25:04] Lord

[25:06] but my feelings speak

[25:09] loudly and my faith collides with them

[25:14] so fear and faith do Collide and we need

[25:16] to pray through so David says in verse

[25:19] three what time I am afraid he talks

[25:21] about his enemies swallowing up they're

[25:23] against him I will trust in thee in

[25:26] verse four he says this in God I will

[25:30] praise His word in God H I have put my

[25:36] trust I will not fear what flesh can do

[25:41] unto

[25:42] me so if we're going to pray through

[25:46] like David did here number one we have

[25:49] to acknowledge fear and number two we

[25:53] have to apply

[25:55] faith we have to apply by

[25:59] faith faith here is a deliberate act in

[26:05] defiance to one's emotional

[26:10] state Faith here is a deliberate act and

[26:14] Defiance to one's emotional state did

[26:17] David's feelings go

[26:20] away no he's still

[26:23] fearful but he's putting his trust in

[26:26] God and as we we read through the rest

[26:29] of the psalm it's going to become

[26:30] obvious to us what God is doing through

[26:33] the life of David he wants to do in our

[26:35] lives as

[26:36] well so Faith here he says I will trust

[26:41] in thee in God I will praise His word in

[26:46] God I have put my trust I will not fear

[26:51] what flesh can do unto

[26:55] me now that's David's

[27:00] Proclamation but that doesn't happen

[27:06] instantaneously what David does is he

[27:09] feeds his faith to starve his

[27:14] fear David feeds his faith to starve his

[27:19] fear and you and I must feed our faith

[27:22] to starve our fear when you and I are

[27:25] struggling with emotions that are

[27:26] overwhelming us when you or I are in a

[27:29] place of fear we must feed our faith

[27:31] David speaks of it here he trust in the

[27:33] Lord David says he Praises his word he

[27:36] says I put my trust that's a deliberate

[27:39] act my trust doesn't go there

[27:41] automatically I got to put it

[27:44] there

[27:45] so when I come

[27:49] home sometimes I deliberately put my

[27:53] keys and my wallet in a certain place

[28:01] sometimes life happens and I don't put

[28:03] them in a deliberate place and you know

[28:07] what happens after that that dreaded

[28:10] conversation with my wife honey have you

[28:12] seen my

[28:14] keys honey have you

[28:19] seen and it happens all the time if we

[28:23] don't watch this deliberately take

[28:25] action and put it where it's supposed to

[28:27] be

[28:28] we'll find ourselves looking and

[28:30] struggling down the road not knowing

[28:34] where it's at so when it comes to our

[28:36] life it's a deliberate he said I put my

[28:39] trust I could put my trust in my

[28:41] feelings because they're loud and

[28:44] they're

[28:45] overwhelming or I could put my trust in

[28:48] the Lord so David continues

[28:52] on after he says I will not fear for

[28:55] what flesh can do un me we'll come back

[28:57] here in just a moment to that passage

[28:59] verse 5 every day they rest my

[29:03] words all their thoughts are against me

[29:06] for evil they gather themselves together

[29:10] there just not one person who's after

[29:12] him they hide themselves they mark my

[29:15] steps when they wait for my soul shall

[29:19] they escape by iniquity in thine anger

[29:22] cast down the people oh God thou

[29:26] tellest my

[29:30] wonderings that's an interesting

[29:33] phrase thou tellest my wonderings put

[29:37] thou my tears into thy bottle are they

[29:40] not in thy book The wonderings of Who

[29:45] David where's he been well he's been on

[29:48] the

[29:48] Run David's ran here and he's ran there

[29:52] he's been on the run there have been

[29:53] people after him he's going to go from

[29:56] the Philistines in Cath and he's going

[29:57] to go go hide in the cave of Abdul he

[30:00] has been on the run people have been

[30:02] after him and he says Thou

[30:10] interesting other words the Lord knows

[30:14] where David is at look at verse nine

[30:29] for God is for me so as we think about

[30:33] tonight David's wonderings he's

[30:36] overwhelmed his tears that he's

[30:39] cried he's asked God to bottle them

[30:43] up David's facing some very real

[30:47] circumstances and this is what David

[30:50] helps us to

[30:51] realize no matter

[30:54] when no matter where your circumstances

[30:58] take you God

[31:01] knows no matter what pain they

[31:04] cause God keeps record of your grief no

[31:09] matter where your circumstances take you

[31:11] God knows no matter what pain they cause

[31:16] God keeps record of your grief God knows

[31:20] your

[31:21] struggles God knows the tears that

[31:24] you've

[31:25] cried God knows the pain that you you

[31:29] have no matter where your circum even

[31:32] though David's circumstances took him to

[31:34] the cave of adullam in chapter 22 of 1

[31:36] Samuel God knew where he was

[31:39] at when he went to Samuel and then they

[31:42] came after him God knew where he was at

[31:44] God knew where David was at when he went

[31:46] into the town of gath when he went to

[31:49] Knob God knew exactly where he was at no

[31:52] matter where your circumstances take you

[31:55] God knows where you're at

[31:58] and no matter what pain they cause God

[32:00] keeps record of your grief now here's

[32:03] the amazing thing David said at the end

[32:04] of verse n this I know God is for

[32:09] me underline that he's not against

[32:14] me he is for me but my feelings and my

[32:18] circumstances God is for

[32:21] you but they're so hard God is for me

[32:24] he's not against me w

[32:28] is hard yes it

[32:34] is applying your faith in

[32:39] prayer means

[32:42] choosing your

[32:45] trust so David acknowledges his fear he

[32:48] applies his faith now how does that help

[32:50] us we have to apply our faith in prayer

[32:53] means choosing your trust

[32:59] so choose your trust Proverbs 3 says

[33:04] trust in the Lord with all thine heart

[33:05] and lean not into th own understanding

[33:07] and all thy ways acknowledge Him and He

[33:08] Shall direct thy paths let's look at the

[33:10] next verse here verse 10 in God will I

[33:13] praise His word in the Lord will I

[33:16] praise His word in God have I what's the

[33:20] next three words put my trust deliberate

[33:25] action again

[33:28] if you're going to apply faith in your

[33:30] prayer life it means choosing your trust

[33:33] being deliberate in your choice of what

[33:37] you trust so you can trust your

[33:41] circumstances you can trust your

[33:43] emotions or you can trust

[33:47] God it's your

[33:49] choice but here's the other amazing

[33:53] thing that David reveals to us in Psalm

[33:56] 56

[33:59] not only do you get to choose your trust

[34:00] in applying your faith we get to choose

[34:02] but you get to choose your

[34:06] emotions now some of you look

[34:08] confused so I'll try to help explain

[34:10] that but you get to choose your emotions

[34:13] now listen closely this is a great quote

[34:14] from Brother kitchens we are not always

[34:18] able to select our initial feelings when

[34:22] confronted by fearful

[34:25] circumstances but we can choose the

[34:28] emotions we continue the journey

[34:32] with we are not always able to select

[34:35] our initial feelings when confronted by

[34:38] fearful

[34:40] circumstances but we can choose the

[34:42] emotions we continue the journey

[34:48] with when I was younger uh we had an

[34:52] opportunity there was a family in our

[34:54] church that um had a house boat on a big

[34:58] lake and they let the our family go and

[35:02] have a weekend on this

[35:04] houseboat and so we were out there and

[35:06] we got to enjoy time of the house boat

[35:08] and then we went into town for a church

[35:10] service and then they took us out and we

[35:12] went tubing on the lake out there was in

[35:15] the season when hardly anybody was out

[35:16] there so went tubing on the lake now

[35:19] when you're riding in this big tube on

[35:22] the water and then there's the boat do

[35:24] you know that the person in the tube

[35:28] doesn't

[35:30] determine what direction they're

[35:34] going the person in the boat

[35:38] determines where the tube's

[35:41] going but there's always a

[35:44] delay it doesn't happen

[35:47] instantaneously and depending how long

[35:50] the tether is

[35:53] determines how tight the turn is if if

[35:57] it's 10t 12et 30t 50 ft there's a wide

[36:04] swing that could

[36:08] happen so if you've ever been tubing or

[36:11] if you've been skiing you're not the one

[36:13] the person on the tube or the person

[36:14] that's skiing is not the one who

[36:17] determines the direction of where

[36:19] they're

[36:21] going now tonight I want to help you

[36:27] the tube or the

[36:30] skier is not

[36:35] you you're in the

[36:38] boat you're steering the

[36:43] boat the tube or the skier is your

[36:48] emotions you're steering the boat based

[36:51] upon one of two

[36:52] things the direction of God and the way

[36:56] he directs you through through his word

[36:58] and through faith or you're listening to

[37:01] your emotions behind

[37:05] you and they're dictating what you do in

[37:08] the

[37:11] boat but guess what your emotions behind

[37:15] you can't see what's in front of

[37:19] you your feelings when it originally

[37:23] started can't direct you to what's

[37:26] ahead but God wants to steer you now

[37:29] listen here's what happens listen

[37:30] closely when that boat begins to turn

[37:33] under the direction of the

[37:35] Lord what happens to that tube it

[37:38] doesn't instantaneously turn those

[37:40] emotions don't automatically get in line

[37:43] it takes some time there is a delay but

[37:46] finally it comes into the direction that

[37:48] it's supposed to

[37:49] go but listen if the tether is long

[37:53] between you and the

[37:56] Lord and your emotions are not coming

[37:59] into captivity under the Lord you're

[38:01] going to have a large

[38:05] swing you ever seen some of those videos

[38:07] where the person on the tube swung too

[38:09] wide and they ended up on the

[38:11] shore they ended up in danger

[38:15] zones that's what happens when we're

[38:17] ruled by our

[38:18] emotions we'll end up in places we ought

[38:21] not to

[38:22] be so the the boat is you're in the boat

[38:26] and the Lord is saying turn

[38:29] direct listen as I said earlier you

[38:31] can't always select your initial

[38:33] feelings when

[38:35] something difficult or something fearful

[38:37] happens but you can choose what emotions

[38:40] you continue the journey

[38:43] with when something fearful happens in

[38:45] our life we can choose to remain in our

[38:48] fear or we can put our faith and trust

[38:50] in

[38:52] God and even if we put our faith and

[38:54] trust in God guess what happens it still

[38:56] takes a little while for that that fear

[38:57] to get in line doesn't always happen

[39:01] instantaneously there is that struggle

[39:03] that

[39:05] happens so we get to choose when we are

[39:07] not always able to select our initial

[39:09] feelings but when confronted by fearful

[39:11] circumstances we can choose the emotions

[39:13] we continue we need to let God Drive the

[39:16] boat get our emotions in line where

[39:19] God's leading us to

[39:21] go if not you can get all over the place

[39:24] with that

[39:26] tube you let your emotions dictate where

[39:29] to

[39:31] go you ever been there where your

[39:37] emotions one side and the other

[39:40] situation Happ hey you didn't get to

[39:42] choose those initial ones many times you

[39:44] didn't get to choose how you responded

[39:45] in the moment in the moment and it was

[39:48] overwhelming in the moment it was

[39:50] fearful but your fear and your faith

[39:53] collided and now you got to make a

[39:54] decision do I continue living in fear or

[39:57] do I let the faith of God direct me and

[39:59] guide

[40:01] me so number one we acknowledge our fear

[40:04] number two we apply Faith there's a

[40:06] third part

[40:07] tonight we

[40:10] articulate in

[40:12] faith we articulate in

[40:16] faith he finishes out the chapter in

[40:19] verse

[40:20] 12 thy vows are upon me oh God I will

[40:23] render Praises unto thee for thou Hast

[40:25] delivered my soul from Death Hast

[40:29] delivered It's Already

[40:30] Done wil thou not deliver my feet from

[40:33] falling that I may walk before God in

[40:36] the light of the living the end of verse

[40:38] 11 he says in God I have I put my trust

[40:41] I will not be afraid what man can do

[40:44] unto me as we consider this we

[40:47] articulate in faith there's a new

[40:49] testament principle that comes into play

[40:51] here in just a moment but I want to draw

[40:53] your attention back to verse three and

[40:55] verse four and I want you to think of or

[40:59] how many of you like Oreo cookies I'm a

[41:01] Baptist so I like baptizing the Oreo

[41:04] cookies and milk that's the only way to

[41:06] have them that's good stuff you baptize

[41:08] them and they go all the way under it's

[41:13] great but I have kids you so you know

[41:16] what my kids do with the Oreos Jonathan

[41:19] they take the Oreos and they twist them

[41:21] and pull them

[41:22] apart and they eat their cream

[41:25] filling and they put the cookies

[41:27] together and they eat the cookies and I

[41:29] have one son who eats the cream filling

[41:31] and then he leaves the cookies behind

[41:34] it's

[41:34] terrible just not right but I want you

[41:38] to think of Oreos when you look at Psalm

[41:39] 563

[41:43] and4 so the first

[41:47] cookie of the Oreo Psalm 56 3 and 4 what

[41:51] time I am afraid the second cookie I

[41:55] will not fear what flesh can do unto me

[41:57] me so what's the cream in the

[42:00] middle it's in God I put my

[42:05] trust one cookie is when I am afraid the

[42:08] other cookie I will not fear how do I

[42:10] get to this cookie I got to have the

[42:12] trust in the middle if God's not in the

[42:15] middle of it it falls

[42:17] apart I will be fearful I will not fear

[42:21] how do you get there in God I put my

[42:24] trust he's the cream filling that holds

[42:26] it all together he's the substance that

[42:27] keeps us together that keeps us from

[42:29] falling apart and how does that apply to

[42:32] my life today go to Romans chapter

[42:35] 8 because just as David was able to say

[42:38] in Psalm 563 and Psalm 564 in Romans

[42:42] chapter 8 the Apostle Paul words it for

[42:45] us in the New Testament in such a way to

[42:47] be an encouragement to our lives Romans

[42:50] chapter number 8 and verse number 31

[42:53] Romans chapter 8 verse number 31 what

[42:55] shall we say then to thee things if God

[42:58] be for us who can be against

[43:02] us pretty powerful statement there look

[43:04] at verse 35 who shall separate us from

[43:08] the love of Christ shall tribulation or

[43:11] distress or persecution or famine or

[43:15] nakedness or Peril or

[43:18] sword it's a lot of fearful

[43:22] things they can't separate what what do

[43:25] I do well verse 37 nay and all these

[43:27] things we are more than what conquerors

[43:31] through him that loved us for I am

[43:33] persuaded that neither death nor life

[43:35] nor angels nor principalities nor powers

[43:37] nor things present nor things to come

[43:40] nor height nor depth nor any other

[43:42] creature shall be able to separate us

[43:43] from the love of God which is in Christ

[43:46] Jesus our

[43:48] lord God loves

[43:50] me God's for me I'm a conqueror through

[43:55] him I just got to keep my faith in him I

[43:58] got to onp purpose put my trust in him

[44:02] fearful things will be there but I got

[44:05] to on purpose put my trust in

[44:09] him but before you can do

[44:12] that before you get the last

[44:16] cookie you have to

[44:19] acknowledge and become vulnerable with

[44:23] God most of us are not good at praying

[44:27] in

[44:29] 100%

[44:35] honesty because we try to pray

[44:38] spiritual when we're

[44:40] overwhelmed and we try to pray like we

[44:43] got it all together when on the inside

[44:46] we're falling

[44:48] apart and we pretend that we got it and

[44:51] we're fear we got faith in God and then

[44:54] we're playing the what if game

[44:57] what if this or what if that or what if

[44:59] this what if he does it what if he does

[45:01] it what what what put your faith in

[45:05] God that's hard to do number one you got

[45:08] to acknowledge fear you got to become

[45:10] vulnerable with God you got to

[45:13] recognize I'm

[45:16] struggling don't pretend to be all

[45:21] together trusting of God when you know

[45:24] you're

[45:25] not re recogniz your vulnerability

[45:28] before

[45:29] God as I mentioned the very beginning of

[45:31] the message feelings are strange things

[45:34] they don't have to be accurate to be

[45:39] influential I could say it this

[45:42] way you know scripture says opposite but

[45:45] you're feeling

[45:47] this you know you shouldn't feel this

[45:51] but you

[45:54] do and it becomes influential in your

[45:57] life and if you let your feelings guide

[46:00] the boat instead of the Lord you'll end

[46:05] up swinging from side to side and

[46:08] causing more harm in your

[46:11] life than if you would trust in the Lord

[46:16] you got to put it

[46:18] there I will put my trust in the Lord

[46:22] what does that mean there's times David

[46:24] is being vulnerable and saying there's

[46:26] times

[46:28] where it's

[46:30] moved I got to put it in the Lord

[46:34] there's times when I'm fearful what time

[46:36] I am afraid I will trust in thee I got

[46:40] to put it when I when fear comes if

[46:42] David could struggle with fear do you

[46:44] think one of us

[46:47] could one of us could struggle with

[46:49] fear well I'm a I'm a superch

[46:53] Christian whatever that means

[46:57] struggle with fear so to articulate your

[47:02] faith you ought to be able to say to God

[47:06] God when I am afraid of blank whatever

[47:10] it is you ought to be able to articulate

[47:12] this Lord when I am afraid of blank I

[47:15] will not allow my fear to immobilize

[47:21] me when I am afraid of blank I will not

[47:25] allow my fear to immobilize me I will

[47:29] rise up in

[47:32] faith and I will speak to

[47:36] God God my ultimate

[47:40] objective is not to feel better but to

[47:45] walk more

[47:47] closely when I am afraid of

[47:50] blank I will not allow my fear to

[47:53] immobilize me I will rise up in faith

[47:56] that and say God my ultimate objective

[47:59] is not to feel better but to walk more

[48:04] closely too many times we pray as

[48:07] defeated

[48:10] Christians we ought to be able to pray

[48:14] God I'm not going to let this immob I'm

[48:16] not goingon to let it stop

[48:19] me it's not going to immobilize me I'm

[48:21] going to rise up I'm I'm going to get up

[48:24] in faith God my ultimate OB objective is

[48:28] not to feel

[48:29] better but to walk more

[48:36] closely David's

[48:39] request what time I am afraid I will

[48:41] trust in thee I will not fear he needed

[48:43] the cream filling of I will put my trust

[48:45] in God and you and I there are many

[48:49] things we can be fearful

[48:52] of many things that can overwhelm

[48:55] us we need to acknowledge it we need to

[48:59] apply our faith and we need to

[49:01] articulate our faith to say God when I'm

[49:03] afraid of

[49:06] blank so what fear do you struggle

[49:15] with what

[49:18] overwhelms

[49:21] you when it

[49:23] does cry out to God

[49:27] and don't let it immobilize

[49:30] you but instead rise up in faith and say

[49:33] God I need to walk more

[49:39] closely because he's the

[49:42] boat he's steering the boat trust him he

[49:46] knows where he's going no matter where

[49:48] your circumstances take you God

[49:51] knows hang

[49:53] on trust him no matter what pain they

[49:57] cause God keeps record of your

[50:02] grief he knows how you're hurting he

[50:05] knows your

[50:08] struggles so quit

[50:11] pretending you're superch

[50:14] Christian and be vulnerable and honest

[50:17] with God said God I'm like a little kid

[50:20] I'm fearful and I struggle and I'm

[50:25] afraid but God I'm not going to let it

[50:27] immobilize

[50:28] me I'm going to rise up in faith and

[50:32] walk more closely to

[50:36] thee my youngest son he's the one who's

[50:40] afraid of what's in the

[50:43] dark he's tent he's allowed to do that

[50:47] he's also got four older brothers who

[50:49] like to hide and do things to him in the

[50:51] dark so that's probably part of

[50:55] that but you know know what helps

[50:58] him when somebody goes with

[51:04] him it brings Comfort to him it

[51:08] strengthens him and in your life and my

[51:12] life when you are fearful and

[51:14] Afraid you know what will help you to

[51:18] recognize somebody's with

[51:21] me somebody can strengthen me somebody

[51:23] can comfort me he'll never leave thee

[51:27] nor forsake thee would you bow your

[51:30] heads

[51:31] tonight ask our piano player and song

[51:33] leader to

[51:36] come

[51:39] tonight when I am afraid of

[51:43] blank David said what time I am

[51:47] afraid what time I Am David had moments

[51:50] of

[51:51] fear he didn't say what if I am afraid

[51:55] no he said what time I am he recognized

[51:57] there are moments he was

[51:58] fearful when I am afraid of

[52:02] blank whatever it might be in your life

[52:05] you know yeah that that fear right there

[52:07] that you struggle with fear of the

[52:10] unknown fear of the

[52:12] future fear of

[52:15] mistake fear of messing up whatever that

[52:19] fear is don't let it immobilize you

[52:23] Rises up in faith and says God my

[52:25] ultimate objective is not to feel better

[52:28] but to walk more

[52:29] closely you hear T night say preacher I

[52:33] have a fear that I struggle with I have

[52:36] a fear that gets me at times preacher

[52:39] would you pray for me I deal with fear

[52:41] in my life if that you just slip your

[52:43] hand up and put it down many hands going

[52:45] up many hands you can put your hands

[52:47] down your fear and faith are getting

[52:49] ready to collide right now during this

[52:50] invitation time you need to articulate

[52:53] it you need to come to God and say God

[52:56] when I'm afraid of blank poured out

[52:58] whatever it is right now tonight be

[52:59] honest you got to acknowledge that fear

[53:01] you're never going to get applied Faith

[53:03] unless you acknowledge the fear you got

[53:06] to recognize God this is where my

[53:07] struggle at God I need your help God I'm

[53:10] going to put my trust in you and give it

[53:12] to him tonight that's the only way

[53:15] you're going to get Victory you can't

[53:17] get from what time I am afraid to I will

[53:20] not fear if you don't put your trust in

[53:22] God in the middle you got to have it

[53:24] tonight de heavenly father I pray that

[53:26] you'd work in this invitation

[53:29] time have your will be done in your name

[53:31] I pray amen as we stand

[56:34] this about a year ago uh Indiana State

[56:37] House chaplain works with public

[56:39] servants prayer page uh he passed

[56:41] through a few about seven or eight weeks

[56:44] ago and was on his way to Albuquerque

[56:46] where his son Micah lives and Micah's in

[56:50] the military but Micah has developed uh

[56:53] the same struggle that Emma is daughter

[56:57] has and Emma has a

[57:00] neurological uh disease going on and so

[57:04] Micah started having

[57:06] seizures uh started having issues and so

[57:10] the military is medically retiring him

[57:14] on September

[57:16] 28th and uh pray pray for him young man

[57:20] dealing with a major Health crisis it's

[57:22] put his plans on hold for his life so

[57:25] Micah bar s and Emma we've been praying

[57:29] for her since the last time she was here

[57:32] um but Emma was diagnos not only with

[57:35] what she has but also with pneumonia

[57:38] last week and so she has a long road to

[57:42] recovery and so pray pray for them pray

[57:46] for Emma and then pray for Micah and

[57:48] then pray for their parents Matt and

[57:50] Miriam and that God would just intervene

[57:53] in these situations and it's difficult

[57:56] but pray for pray for Micah and I

[58:00] believe Micah is

[58:02] 23 24 years old and so a young man

[58:06] having his life just turned upside down

[58:09] with health issues it's it's very

[58:11] difficult it's difficult for anyone to

[58:13] have their life turned upside down by

[58:15] health issues but you pray pray for that

[58:17] and then God is at work in the lives of

[58:20] people and so I want to encourage you to

[58:22] pray for that uh pray for the Barnes

[58:25] family there pray for all the other

[58:27] requests that we have here at the church

[58:30] and keep those in mind we'll put up our

[58:32] prayer Focus for the week is the elino

[58:36] school bus drivers so they have a unique

[58:39] job of transporting young people want to

[58:41] pray for their safety as they travel

[58:43] back and forth but also the world that

[58:45] we live in today it can be scary with

[58:48] some of the young people that ride the

[58:49] bus and so we want to pray for the eleno

[58:52] school bus drivers and so that's our

[58:54] prayer Focus for the week and that's out

[58:56] on our church sign if you as you leave

[58:58] tonight you'll see it on the church sign

[58:59] as well uh to pray for the Areno school

[59:02] bus drivers and so we're excited um

[59:05] we're we're in phase one of our prayer

[59:07] Focus Ministry so phase one of that is

[59:11] we're encouraging you to pray for them

[59:14] phase two down the road is when it's a

[59:16] prayer focused week we're going to put

[59:18] feet to the prayers we're not quite

[59:21] there yet but that's our ultimate desire

[59:23] and so we would be a blessing to the

[59:25] different groups groups in our community

[59:27] when that gets to that um this coming

[59:30] Sunday night after the evening service

[59:33] uh I'll be having a meeting uh for our

[59:36] young adults and our

[59:38] teenagers um we have a Ministry

[59:41] opportunity uh called heart works and so

[59:44] what it is it's uh teaching young people

[59:48] and young adults we've got some folks

[59:50] that are uh helping us to go do some

[59:53] projects for some people at their houses

[59:54] that need done and and so we're putting

[59:56] together some teams we've got two

[59:58] Saturdays the first Saturday in

[60:00] September second Saturday in September

[60:02] we're going to be helping a lady a widow

[60:04] lady in our church and so we'll be

[60:06] giving you more information about that

[60:08] Sunday night and so if you're interested

[60:09] in that college student age or young

[60:12] people teenagers we're going to be

[60:14] meeting after the Sunday night service

[60:15] talking about that Ministry and uh

[60:17] getting that up and going so excited

[60:19] about that so come Sunday and we'll talk

[67:37] bus drivers for the city of eleno Lord

[67:39] that they would be a Shining

[67:41] Light Lord there's going to be some of

[67:43] those kids that get on the bus to go to

[67:45] school that they've had a rough night at

[67:48] their

[67:49] house they' had a rough week and maybe

[67:52] some of these drivers could be a

[67:53] positive influence and their life show

[67:57] them the love of Christ in their life

[67:59] Lord I pray you'd help them and use them

[68:01] and Lord that we would continue to pray

[68:03] for them and Lord as we drive by a

[68:05] school this week that we think about

[68:07] those drivers and we'd pray for them if

[68:09] we see a bus this week out making their

[68:12] rounds for school pickup or drop off

[68:14] that we see the number on the side of

[68:16] the bus and pray for the driver of bus

[68:19] whatever number it is or just give us a

[68:21] great time as we go our separate ways
