[0:00] Police say
[0:00] >> crazy traffic because they can't fix the
[0:03] roads. How does the mob all right
[0:06] influence that?
[0:09] Well, they
[0:11] first of all, they have the politicians
[0:12] and that's the reason they started the
[0:14] trade association because if the they
[0:16] figured if they had if the politicians
[0:18] could do it, they could do it and they
[0:20] wanted a piece of the pie and they got
[0:22] it, you know, and and you know, and as
[0:25] far as the road goes, I mean, it's
[0:28] there's bribery going on constantly.
[0:30] There's, you know, they uh it's a I
[0:33] mean, it's a joke. I mean, and it's not
[0:34] only in New York City. It's in a lot of
[0:35] major.
[0:36] >> Yeah, sure. in the big dig in Boston and
[0:38] all of that. Now, counselor, can you get
[0:39] specific about what organized crime does
[0:43] to number one slow these projects down
[0:45] and number two, how do they make money
[0:46] doing it?
[0:47] >> Well, they don't really want to slow it
[0:49] down. What they want to do from the
[0:50] beginning is get a piece of the pie
[0:52] going into it. So, they'll sit down and
[0:54] the unions and the builders will all
[0:57] come together and come up with a number.
[0:59] Part of that number is going to
[1:01] organized crime. And and what they do is
[1:05] uh they get some no-show jobs. They get
[1:07] some people who show up but don't do
[1:08] anything. They get money that's actually
[1:10] coming out of the construction itself.
[1:13] Sheetrock materials that disappear. Uh
[1:16] and and those are the kinds of things.
[1:17] >> All right. So they have people uh that
[1:19] are being paid by the taxpayers of New
[1:21] York City, taxpayers of Boston, um
[1:23] Philadelphia. I don't know if this
[1:25] happens on
