[0:42] And good evening, Katie is off tonight.
[0:44] All across the country this evening,
[0:45] weary shoppers are resting up from a
[0:47] hectic day at the mall. Black Friday
[0:49] lived up to expectations. The early
[0:51] estimate, $20 billion spent nationwide.
[0:54] Looking ahead now, retail sales in
[0:56] November and December are expected to
[0:58] hit $474.5 billion. That's up 4% from
[1:02] last year, but it would be the smallest
[1:04] increase in 5 years. And that's why the
[1:06] big chains did all they could to get
[1:08] customers to spend early. Here's
[1:10] Michelle Miller.
[1:13] This Black Friday, with steep savings,
[1:16] one-day specials, and limited supplies,
[1:20] >> competition to score sometimes turned
[1:23] downright ugly.
[1:25] Across the country, the traditional
[1:27] countdown to Christmas officially began
[1:29] at midnight.
[1:32] And every hour since,
[1:35] >> retailers promised deals at every door.
[1:38] >> 34 35. This one, this one. We have
[1:41] rolled back an additional 20% rollbacks
[1:43] on key holiday items for the holiday
[1:45] season.
[1:46] >> But it may be a tough sell for
[1:47] retailers. Consumers are nervous about
[1:50] the massive recalls that have tainted
[1:52] the toy industry and the troubled
