[0:01] while the nation's attention was on the
[0:03] Texas coast no one was watching that
[0:05] area more closely than these experts
[0:07] from their Coral Gables offices
[0:09] hurricane forecasters are advising Texas
[0:11] Gulf residents just how bad the season's
[0:14] first big storm will be but even though
[0:16] Alicia is hundreds of miles away local
[0:19] hurricane experts are wasting little
[0:21] time and asking themselves what if
[0:23] Alicia were heading for Miami Martin
[0:26] Bishop runs dade's Emergency Operations
[0:28] Center he's already plotted the areas
[0:30] along Key Biscayne Miami Beach and along
[0:33] the bay areas which would be flooded
[0:35] from a similar storm since Alicia is not
[0:38] a real strong hurricane the evacuation
[0:40] would have been Key Biscayne and the
[0:42] areas east of Collins Avenue
[0:44] hurricane experts say Alicia would be
[0:47] similar in size to David when it struck
[0:49] here in 1981. this composite photograph
[0:52] shows how Alicia would look if it was
[0:54] approaching South Florida the biggest
[0:56] threat would be the storm surge the wall
[0:59] of water that would endanger residents
[1:01] of low-lying areas does the people that
[1:03] live on the islands live on Miami Beach
[1:06] live on the Bayshore developments they
[1:08] are the ones that are vulnerable to the
[1:09] storm surge and it's a storm surge that
[1:11] we're concerned about today on the Texas
[1:13] Coast with Alicia and I would trust that
[1:15] the decision to have evacuated would
[1:17] have already been made in this community
[1:18] and our people then would be getting
[1:20] back to a place of safety and that's
[1:22] exactly what Texas golf residents were
[1:25] warned about yesterday by forecaster
