[0:00] tomorrow about that subject right here.
[0:02] That's it for us today. Thanks for
[0:03] watching The Factor. Hannity & Colmes is
[0:05] next. [music] They'll have more reaction
[0:07] to Jackson's acquittal. I'm Bill
[0:08] O'Reilly. Hope to see you next time.
[0:09] Remember, the spin stops right here
[0:11] [music] because we are definitely
[0:12] looking out for you.
[0:20] >> [music]
[0:24] >> And welcome to Hannity & Colmes. Thank
[0:26] you for being with us. I'm Sean Hannity.
[0:27] It's a very busy news day and we'll have
[0:29] all the latest from California and the
[0:31] acquittal of Michael Jackson in just a
[0:32] minute. But also coming up tonight is
[0:34] the interview that you've heard about,
[0:36] have been reading about, my exclusive
[0:38] sit-down interview with Vice President
[0:39] Dick Cheney. Now, he broke news about
[0:41] Guantanamo Bay, his political future for
[0:44] 2008, and of course his feelings about
[0:47] DNC chair Howard Dean.
[0:48] >> Well, I think Howard Dean's over the
[0:50] top. Uh I
[0:52] I've never been able to understand his
[0:54] appeal. I mean, maybe maybe his mother
[0:56] loved him, but I've never met anybody
[0:57] who does.
[1:00] >> And you don't want to miss it. It's all
[1:01] coming up tonight. First, our top story
[1:02] comes from the courthouse in Santa
[1:03] Maria, California.
[1:06] >> The people of the state of California,
[1:07] plaintiff, versus Michael Joe Jackson,
[1:09] defendant, case number 1133603.
[1:14] Count one, verdict.
[1:16] We, the jury in the above-entitled case,
[1:18] find the defendant not guilty of
[1:20] conspiracy [cheering] as charged in
[1:22] count one of the indictment.
[1:28] >> After a trial and jury deliberation that
[1:30] together lasted almost 6 months, Michael
[1:32] Jackson was acquitted today of all 10
[1:35] counts brought against him, including
[1:37] charges of child molestation and
[1:39] administering alcohol to a minor. You
[1:41] are looking live at the gates of the
[1:43] Neverland Ranch. It's the place the
[1:44] prosecution called the scene of the
[1:46] crime, and tonight it's the place where
[1:48] Michael Jackson is a free man. We are
[1:50] watching and waiting for late-breaking
[1:52] developments, and if they happen, we'll
[1:53] bring them to you tonight live. And now
[1:55] for all the latest on today's verdict,
[1:57] we're joined from the courthouse in
[1:58] Santa Maria by Fox News legal analyst
[2:00] Bob Massi. We're also joined by former
[2:02] prosecutor Marcia Clark of the O.J.
[2:04] Simpson fame, who is also a contributor
[2:06] to Justice Magazine and just wrote a
[2:08] great piece on the Jackson case. In Los
[2:10] Angeles, we are joined by celebrity
[2:12] justice correspondent Pat Lalama. And
[2:14] here in our New York studio, the host of
[2:16] at large, our very own Geraldo Rivera.
[2:19] And I got to start with you, Geraldo.
[2:20] You called it exactly. I guess I can
[2:23] keep my mustache there, Sean.
[2:24] >> Uh we had a little bet didn't [laughter]
[2:25] we?
[2:26] Well, you said if he was found
[2:29] >> Not guilty.
[2:29] >> Not guilty on all on all accounts.
[2:31] >> If he was found guilty If he was found
[2:33] guilty, I was going to shave off my
[2:34] iconic mustache that I have had for
[2:36] almost 40 years.
[2:37] >> was I going to do? I I didn't make a
[2:38] bet. And what is it?
[2:40] You got a deal. All right. I'm a man of
[2:41] my word. Have you spoken to Michael?
[2:43] Have you heard from his camp?
[2:44] >> We
[2:49] called the family. We heard him buzzing
[2:51] in the background. We get could get the
[2:52] call at any time. My brother Craig has
[2:54] the cell phone in his hands and he might
[2:56] call you during the show. He might call
[2:57] us during the show. Right. He might call
[2:58] us at any moment there.
[2:59] Uh
[3:00] >> All right. Well,
[3:02] let me get now Pat Lalama, you were on
[3:03] the opposite side of this by the way.
[3:06] >> Yes, and congratulations to Mr. Geraldo.
[3:08] I have to give it to you. I haven't been
[3:10] so wrong since the O.J. Simpson case. I
[3:13] have to tell you I'm considering a new
[3:14] line of work. But I'm very upset about
[3:16] >> But hang on Pat one second. That's
[3:18] Thomas Mesereau, his attorney, leaving
[3:19] the Neverland Ranch right now as we
[3:21] speak here. But go ahead now, Pat.
[3:23] >> Well, anyway, I was just going to say I
[3:25] mean it's very troubling to me for a
[3:26] whole lot of reasons that I don't
[3:28] necessarily need to repeat now. But
[3:29] here's the thing. I'm concerned for any
[3:32] kids who feel the need
[3:34] to come forward. This
[3:35] was not about basically Geraldo, can I
[3:37] talk? Please? Please, may I? With all
[3:39] due respect, I'll let you do your thing,
[3:41] okay? I'm concerned because there's a
[3:43] lot of things that happened today that
[3:44] concern me. Number one, that jury comes
[3:46] out with a written statement that says,
[3:48] "We felt the eyes of the world and the
[3:49] weight upon our shoulders." That should
[3:51] never have been a consideration. When
[3:53] the jurors were asked question number
[3:54] one, how did you feel about that
[3:55] accuser? Nobody wanted to answer. What
[3:58] was the heaviest evidence? Nobody wanted
[4:00] to answer. I'm very concerned about what
[4:02] they really thought was the important
[4:04] thing in this in this
[4:05] >> before we go to Marsha and Bob, I want
[4:07] to go to you, Geraldo. Just because just
[4:09] because somebody in this country is
[4:10] found not guilty doesn't mean they're
[4:11] innocent of the charges, and you know
[4:13] that.
[4:13] >> Sean, give him a break. When I When I
[4:16] risked my mustache and my reputation in
[4:19] a in a case standing alone basically in
[4:21] the
[4:22] among the pundits, I did it not because
[4:24] of emotional or subjective reasons. I
[4:27] analyzed the evidence against this man.
[4:29] This case never should have been
[4:30] brought. If his name was Jackson Michael
[4:32] instead of Michael Jackson, he never
[4:34] even would have been indicted.
[4:35] >> All right, but let me say this
[4:36] to you. You're You're a good friend
[4:37] though, Geraldo. In your mind and in
[4:39] your heart, his actions has brought all
[4:41] the suspicion upon him. There is a
[4:43] chance, and you know that there's a
[4:44] chance that he may be guilty of this
[4:46] even though they may not have been able
[4:47] to prove it in this case. His conduct,
[4:49] his sleeping with boys, his paying out
[4:51] millions brings a lot of suspicion on
[4:52] him.
[4:53] >> Sean, I may be the only person in the
[4:55] world who is friends with both Michael
[4:56] Jackson and Sean Hannity.
[4:58] And I'm proud of both relationships.
[5:00] >> get in trouble, I want you to defend me.
[5:02] >> Mike, I and I'll be I'll have your back
[5:04] just as I had his because this was not
[5:06] fair. This was a grifter family with a
[5:09] with a with a record that was so
[5:11] checkered it was pathetic. It was
[5:12] sickening. They This was a setup. It
[5:15] never would have been brought if it was
[5:16] in any other county. Tom Sneddon has had
[5:19] this grudge for 13 years. He used the
[5:21] the mechanism of the state to get this
[5:23] man.
[5:23] >> Clark, do you want to weigh in?
[5:26] >> Sure, I totally disagree with everything
[5:28] Geraldo said. I think it's completely
[5:29] false. I've handled hundreds of hot
[5:31] child molestation cases. I followed the
[5:33] evidence in this case very carefully. I
[5:35] was in the courtroom. I know what went
[5:36] on in this trial. I fear I really do
[5:39] fear that it was a celebrity mentality
[5:41] that caused this verdict to happen. I
[5:43] know the jurors maybe consciously don't
[5:45] realize that, and giving them all the
[5:47] difference that I possibly can. They
[5:49] were overwhelmed with the weight of the
[5:50] celebrity this guy. Jackson is huge,
[5:53] much huger than Simpson ever was and
[5:55] they simp they simply did not want to
[5:57] find him guilty and every case will
[5:58] always give jurors the excuse to find
[6:00] him not guilty and they found them. I do
[6:03] not believe for one second and I feel
[6:05] very badly tonight. Everybody's having a
[6:07] lot of fun debating this. I want to
[6:08] think one minute about these little boys
[6:11] who were victims that no one's talking
[6:12] about right now. How do you think they
[6:14] feel tonight?
[6:15] >> You know that they're victims, Marsha,
[6:16] BUT
[6:16] WHAT WHAT WHAT SUBSTITUTES YOUR
[6:18] ENJOYMENT for the jurors, Marsha?
[6:20] >> You know that they're all
[6:21] >> This this avalanche of hysterical
[6:25] rhetoric doesn't make him guilty. This
[6:28] What is What is the evidence? His His
[6:30] mother made him lie against his own
[6:32] father. His mother made him lie against
[6:34] J.C. Penney's. This has been a fake case
[6:37] >> Let me hold on, guys. Let me get Let me
[6:39] get Bob Massi in here. Bob, the fact is
[6:40] the jury did not like the mother. The
[6:42] mother was was she turned the jury off
[6:43] if you heard their comments afterwards
[6:45] and they couldn't prove it beyond
[6:46] reasonable doubt. Isn't that what
[6:47] happened here?
[6:48] >> Allen, you know, I I think really no
[6:50] disrespect to some of the guests, but
[6:52] it's a little too cynical. You know,
[6:53] they lost the case. This was a family. I
[6:56] sat through this trial. This is a family
[6:58] that crumbled under cross-examination. I
[7:00] mean, I don't care what anybody says,
[7:01] unless you sat in this trial and you
[7:03] watched the examination, Tom Mesereau
[7:06] cross-examined and dismantled this
[7:08] entire family and the bottom line is
[7:10] there was credibility problems all over
[7:12] the place. You can't be a poor loser on
[7:14] this case.
[7:15] >> They brought bad witnesses.
[7:16] They brought bad witnesses. They They
[7:18] brought people who were tainted. They
[7:19] brought people who could not
[7:20] substantiate and that's what happened
[7:22] here.
[7:23] >> And not only that, uh listen. They They
[7:25] They put Look, Michael Jackson was
[7:27] willing to walk through that courtroom
[7:28] and fight the case. Wait a second.
[7:30] Michael Jack Wait a second, please. I
[7:32] was at the courthouse watching this
[7:34] trial. Michael Jackson had the had to go
[7:36] to trial and he was willing to walk out
[7:38] a convicted man today as well as walk
[7:41] out as a free man. He had a great
[7:43] lawyer, and what that lawyer did was he
[7:45] tested the system, and he said to the
[7:47] system, "If you could prove beyond a
[7:49] reasonable doubt, then my client's
[7:51] willing to go to jail. But if you can't,
[7:53] my guy's willing to walk out." And the
[7:55] fact that they lost should not be some
[7:57] type of just a bad taste in your mouth.
[7:59] Nobody wants to see children molested,
[8:01] but wait a second, they lost the case,
[8:03] and they had a bad family, and they had
[8:04] a dysfunctional family, and they had a
[8:06] mother, no disrespect to the ladies, the
[8:08] women hated the mother. She was She was
[8:11] reprehensible on the
[8:12] >> Pat LaLama, wasn't that a mistake
[8:14] putting the mother up, putting the
[8:15] family up, putting up people who could
[8:16] not be credible to a jury? Isn't that
[8:18] what happened here?
[8:19] >> Of course it was.
[8:20] >> and the conspiracy charge is like
[8:22] >> Pat Pat LaLama, go.
[8:23] >> My name is Pat LaLama, let me finish
[8:25] that one, okay? This is a very troubled
[8:28] family. This is a very troubled family,
[8:30] but aside from that, this child was a
[8:32] victim. This
[8:33] >> How do you know that?
[8:34] >> has to go through life now and say,
[8:36] "Nobody believed me, even though my
[8:38] mother's wacked, okay?" Now, no kid in
[8:40] the world will go forward
[8:41] >> All right, well, that is such pathetic
[8:43] >> All right, we we got a lot more We got a
[8:45] lot more to come tonight on the verdict
[8:47] in the Michael Jackson case, and famed
[8:49] attorney Gloria Allred, she'll join us,
[8:50] tell us what she thinks of the outcome.
[8:52] Plus, we're going to find out what the
[8:53] verdict means for Michael Jackson's own
[8:55] children, and then tonight, right here,
[8:57] an exclusive interview with Vice
[8:59] President Dick Cheney. He speaks out
[9:00] about controversial [music] DNC chair
[9:02] Howard Dean. He'll set the record
[9:04] straight on his plans for 2008, plus the
[9:06] very latest on the search for missing
[9:08] [music] Alabama teen Natalie Holloway.
[9:10] Do the suspects in custody know more
[9:12] than they are telling police? [music]
[9:13] Holloway's family says, "Yes, we have
[9:15] new details, we'll bring them to you
[9:16] tonight." Straight ahead.
[9:23] >> Good evening, everyone. I'm Lori Drew.
[9:25] At least one person has reportedly been
[9:27] killed in the aftermath of a massive
[9:29] earthquake in northern Chile. The US
[9:32] Geological Survey says the quake
[9:33] measured 7.9. It affected a heavily
[9:36] populated city triggering mudslides,
[9:39] driving people from their homes, and
[9:40] knocking out power.
[9:42] The head of the UN's nuclear watchdog
[9:44] agency has been granted a third term.
[9:46] Mohamed ElBaradei thanked the US
[9:49] following his unanimous reappointment to
[9:50] the IAEA today. The Bush administration
[9:53] had originally opposed it saying UN
[9:55] agency heads should serve for only two
[9:57] terms, but later dropped its opposition.
[10:00] California Governor Arnold
[10:01] Schwarzenegger has called a special
[10:03] election to reform the state's
[10:04] government saying he wants to change the
[10:06] way California spends money, picks its
[10:08] politicians, and hires teachers. The
[10:11] governor says those issues need to be
[10:13] addressed now. The election will be held
[10:16] in November, but critics say it will be
[10:18] simply too expensive.
[10:20] And HIV cases in the US have hit a
[10:22] record high. The government says more
[10:24] than 1 million people were living with
[10:26] HIV at the end of 2003.
[10:29] Critics say that estimate reflects a
[10:31] failure of prevention, but the Centers
[10:33] for Disease Control and Prevention notes
[10:35] the increase also shows that medicines
[10:37] allow people to live longer with the
[10:40] virus.
[10:41] I'll see you again at the bottom of the
[10:42] hour for more headlines, but stay tuned.
[10:45] Handy Dandy Combs
