[0:01] I'm Katie Couric, a blast of winter in

[0:03] the heart of America.

[0:06] Heavy snow and strong winds, freezing

[0:08] rain, and frigid temperatures mean

[0:10] canceled flights and dangerous travel in

[0:12] the Midwest, and it's all heading east

[0:15] tonight.

[0:17] In the Far East, a groundbreaking deal

[0:20] could end the North Korean nuclear

[0:21] threat. We'll take a look at the promise

[0:24] and potential pitfalls.

[0:26] In a Salt Lake City mall, a teenager

[0:28] guns down five people in a matter of

[0:30] seconds, and officials say if it weren't

[0:32] for a hero cop, the toll could have been

[0:35] much higher.

[0:37] And is the food your family's eating

[0:52] Couric.

[1:06] and thunderstorms. In the Midwest, it's

[1:09] a blizzard, and it's heading east.

[1:11] Already, more than a thousand flights

[1:13] have been canceled. Indiana and Ohio may

[1:15] get more than a foot and a half of snow.

[1:18] And in Washington, D.C., federal

[1:19] government offices closed early because

[1:22] of icy conditions. Cynthia Bowers is in

[1:25] the very windy city tonight, and

[1:27] Cynthia, it looks like a real weather

[1:29] nightmare out there.

[1:31] Katie, it is a nightmare, and this comes

[1:33] just as we were finally thawing out from

[1:35] last week's deep freeze. Old Man Winter

[1:38] socked us sideways today, knocking

[1:40] pedestrians in Chicago's Loop for a

[1:42] loop.

[1:44] What do you thin
