[0:02] The funeral day of Anoir Sadat. A day

[0:04] when his family and statesmen from half

[0:06] the nations of the world stood at his

[0:08] grave side. But a day when the fear of

[0:10] violence was so great the people of

[0:12] Egypt were held far at bay

[0:24] from around the world and from our

[0:26] newsroom in Washington. This is the CBS

[0:28] Evening News with Bob Schaefer.

[0:32] >> Good evening. They buried Anor Sadat

[0:34] today. The body will rest beneath the

[0:35] 20th century pyramid. The Blackstone

[0:38] Memorial records that he was a hero of

[0:40] war and peace who was martyed for his

[0:42] principles. Here's Morton Dean with our

[0:44] report from K.

[0:47] It was a hero's funeral.

[0:54] The president's body was accompanied by

[0:56] units from Egypt's armed forces

[1:00] and it was accompanied by the son he

[1:02] left behind

[1:05] and by the leadership that will take his

[1:07] place.

[1:09] The three living former American

[1:10] presidents joined in the procession.

[1:15] Fagan of Israel was there

[1:18] >> walking on October 6th Avenue, a road

[1:21] commemorating the first day of Egypt and

[1:23] Israel's last war. It marks the Egyptian

[1:26] attack. And now October 6 also marks the

[1:30] day Sadat was assassinated.

[1:34] Attendance at the funeral was restricted

[1:36] to the public, but open to the world.

[1:38] However, most of the Arab world, angry

[1:41] over Sedat's overture to Israel, did not

[1:43] send representatives.

[1:46] The dignitaries sat and the family sat

[1:49] in the very reviewing stand where the

[1:51] president sat when he was killed 4 days

[1:53] ago. Just across the way, a short walk

[1:57] is the tomb of the unknown soldier. Just

[2:00] beyond that, a new tomb and a new

[2:03] memorial with the inscription Anoi
