[0:01] and military source information. Ted,
[0:04] first of all, let me go to how you
[0:06] opened the program by saying there was
[0:07] no knowledge as to whether the Israelis
[0:09] had in fact or were in fact in the
[0:12] process of responding to tonight's
[0:13] events. My information is that at the
[0:16] current time there is no Israeli action
[0:19] underway, nor has there been one up
[0:20] until now. Number two, it was a night of
[0:23] great confusion. And I have confirmed at
[0:25] one point the report did reach the
[0:27] Israeli embassy in Washington that one
[0:29] of the missiles had been in fact uh
[0:32] chemical uh or nerve gas and uh
[0:35] Americans were informed about that.
[0:37] Everyone was relieved later to find out
[0:38] that that was not the case. Uh then uh
[0:42] the US when the uh uh full situation was
[0:45] known uh in many conversations with the
[0:49] Israelis actually continuing
[0:50] conversations this evening uh promised
[0:53] that US planes extra sorties would be
[0:56] sent out immediately and in fact they
[0:59] have been sent out to try to search for
[1:01] those mobile Scud launches in western
[1:03] Iraq and to take them out. Now, my
[1:06] understanding of the Israeli military
[1:08] assessment was that uh there was some
[1:11] initial doubt amid the period of
[1:13] euphoria throughout the day because many
[1:16] Israeli combat veterans said that the
[1:18] night reports of pilots who fly these
[1:21] missions are not always reliable. And in
[1:23] fact, the Israelis are not convinced
[1:25] even that all the uh the permanently
[1:28] based Scuds were taken out, let alone
[1:30] the mobiles. and the Israelis are very
[1:33] anxious to see the results of tonight's
[1:35] uh work in western Iraq to ma
