[0:02] This is the CBS Evening News
[0:06] with Connie Chung in New York and Dan
[0:09] Rather in Porto Prince, Haiti.
[0:13] Good evening. Here in Porter Prince, the
[0:15] capital of Haiti, there is the calm
[0:17] before the still building storm. Haiti's
[0:20] current rulers are standing their
[0:22] ground. They refuse to budge in the face
[0:24] of an overwhelming US military threat.
[0:27] Just a short time ago, I talked with
[0:29] Hades ranking military officer, General
[0:31] Raul Sedrris, who remains absolutely
[0:34] defiant and saying things such as, "I

[1:10] armada that includes two aircraft
[1:12] carriers loaded with army troops and
[1:14] helicopters. Behind them, thousands more
[1:16] combat troops marshalling at Guantanamo
[1:18] Bay, Cuba, and at military bases
[1:21] throughout the southeastern US. It is an
[1:23] overwhelming force designed to strike
[1:25] about 20 targets simultaneously, but
[1:28] Defense Secretary Perry warned Hades
[1:30] Army and civilian militia could still
[1:32] put up a fight.
[1:33] >> These are armed. Some of them are armed
[1:35] well. And so if any pe
