[0:00] will do whatever this Louisiana border.
[0:02] As the storm approached, at least three
[0:04] buildings caught fire in downtown
[0:06] Galveston a few blocks away. A
[0:08] restaurant wall collapsed, scattering
[0:10] debris everywhere. About 90% of the
[0:12] residents have left town. Some oil
[0:15] refining towns, including Bowmont and
[0:17] Port Arthur, Texas, are expected to take
[0:19] a big hit. You're looking at a picture
[0:21] now from Bowmont, Texas, about 80 miles
[0:23] northeast of Houston, where the streets
[0:26] are just about deserted. And forecasters
[0:28] say tornadoes are possible in Texas,
[0:31] Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. In
[0:33] Louisiana, one meteorologist says
[0:35] tornado warnings are popping up like
[0:37] firecrackers across the southern part of
[0:39] the state.
[0:40] >> That's right. It is just uh after 3:00
[0:42] a.m. on the east coast, midnight out
[0:44] west, and the outer wall of that
[0:45] hurricane Rita is making landfall right
[0:47] now. And you're not going to believe the
[0:49] kind of punishment that our
[0:50] correspondent Anderson Cooper is taking
[0:52] right now.
[0:53] >> And Miles O'Brien in Bowmont and
[0:55] Lumberton, Texas. It's where they both
[0:56] are in the possible path of a storm.
[0:59] Let's get started in Lumberton with
[1:01] Miles O'Brien. And Miles, we've been
[1:02] taking a look at your picture over the
[1:04] last couple of minutes. And it it looks
[1:06] like you're you're just taking a real
[1:07] pounding there.
[1:09] >> Yeah, horizontal rain here, Tony. It's
[1:11] uh ever since we got going here just
[1:13] about an hour or so ago, it's it has not
[1:15] stopped. It is steady. You know, we're
[1:17] about 40 50 feet above sea level here.
[1:20] That's part of the
