[0:00] Holiday

[0:03] on ice. A President's Day blizzard

[0:05] blasts the East Coast, stopping

[0:07] travelers in their tracks, turning every

[0:09] house into a White House. Horror in the

[0:13] dead of night. More than 20 people

[0:15] trampled to death when panic sweeps a

[0:17] Chicago nightclub.

[0:20] Also tonight, from Kuwait, the US strike

[0:23] force here grows larger by the day,

[0:25] ready to invade Iraq when and if the

[0:27] order comes. European leaders unite

[0:30] behind the US and say Saddam has one

[0:33] last chance as American spy planes join

[0:36] the search for Iraqi weapons.

[0:44] This is the CBS Evening News with Dan

[0:48] Rather reporting tonight from Kuwait

[0:50] City and John Roberts in New York.

[0:54] >> And good evening. It is a powerful slow

[0:57] motion blizzard heading up the east

[0:59] coast. Slow and deadly. At least 20

[1:02] deaths are blamed on this holiday storm

[1:04] which has left untold thousands of

[1:06] travelers stranded. Travel by foot,

[1:09] road, or air is either difficult or

[1:11] impossible. This is the scene tonight at

[1:13] Boston's City Hall Plaza where the snow

[1:16] is still coming down. At least 10 in so

[1:18] far. About a foot and a half expected

[1:21] before it's all over. In Philadelphia,

[1:23] where the snow has tapered off at 20 to

[1:25] 21 in, downtown looks peaceful, but

[1:28] there's plenty of plowing left to do.

[1:30] Here in New York City, Time Square, 20

[1:33] in of snow as the Great White Way now

[1:35] extends way beyond the lights of

[1:37] Broadway. Our coverage of this storm of

[1:40] the new century begins with Lee Cowen.

[1:44] here at WCBS 880 in the blizzard of 2003

[1:46] on President's Day.

[1:49] >> When a storm gets a nickname, you know

[1:51] it's bad.

[1:52] >> Crazy
