[0:10] War good evening again as we continue
[0:13] with this special Expanded Edition of
[0:14] the CBS Evening News with war coming
[0:17] many Western journalists have now left
[0:19] Baghdad CBS News correspondent Lara
[0:22] Logan left today she and her crew are
[0:24] now just across Iraq's western border in
[0:26] Jordan a short time ago I asked her what
[0:29] Iraqi military preparations or movements
[0:32] she saw on her way
[0:33] out well then the first thing I noticed
[0:36] as we drove out of the city was Iraqi
[0:39] soldiers Manning anti-aircraft guns on
[0:41] the top of buildings including an
[0:43] apartment building and then as we reach
[0:46] the outskirts of the city there was a
[0:48] line of military activity on either side
[0:50] of the road with at least 40 large
[0:53] flatbed trucks dug into the Earth the
[0:56] kind the military would use as launching
[0:58] pads for multiple Rockets systems and
[1:01] further down the road about 6 miles
[1:03] there was another site um where we saw
[1:06] trenches sandbagged fighting positions
[1:08] and here there were dozens of huge
[1:11] cylindrical fuel containers H but
[1:14] strange as it may seem the one thing
[1:16] that we really didn't see much of was
[1:18] Iraqi troops and uh none of the fighting
[1:21] positions we saw were manned there
[1:23] really wasn't a strong visual military
[1:26] presence anywhere Dan and what was the
[1:29] mood in Baghdad as you left well people
[1:32] were really getting very nervous indeed
[1:34] they were coming up to us asking tonight
[1:36] tonight looking for some kind of
[1:38] confirmation that the US bombing would
[1:41] start tonight still shops and businesses
[1:44] remain
