[0:00] First round. Something doesn't change.

[0:03] It could happen again. Big city murders

[0:06] on the rise. She saw her father

[0:08] murdered. Then a year later, her mother.

[0:26] This is the CBS Evening News with Dan

[0:30] Rather. [music]

[0:31] Good evening. Dan is off tonight. I'm

[0:32] John Roberts. President Bush today

[0:34] signed corporate reform legislation into

[1:11] high-profile signing ceremony today. As

[1:13] Bob Schaefer reports,

[1:15] >> clearly hoping to boost investor

[1:17] confidence, the White House pulled out

[1:19] all the stops. Everyone who's anyone in

[1:21] official Washington was invited in as

[1:23] the president signed the reform

[1:25] legislation, which he believes is just

[1:28] the strong medicine needed.

[1:30] >> This law says to every dishonest

[1:32] corporate leader,

[1:34] you will be exposed and punished.

[1:36] >> For sure, it is a tough one. And

[1:38] accountants who audit public companies
