[0:11] >> We now join our program in progress.
[0:13] >> Experience, my knowledge of Illinois,
[0:15] and my commitment to the public servant
[0:18] in my state. I know that I could take on
[0:21] that mantle and and and and do the work
[0:24] for the people. Well, don't you feel
[0:25] you're being used by someone who's just
[0:27] trying to save his political skin?
[0:31] >> Whatever means necessary uh uh uh that
[0:34] whatever I have nothing to do with the
[0:36] governor's motives, what we needed was
[0:39] something to be done for the people of
[0:40] Illinois. That was his constitutional
[0:43] duty. That was his responsibility. The
[0:45] the Illinois constitution does not say
[0:47] the governor may or the governor might
[0:49] or the governor should. Bob, it says the
[0:51] governor shall appoint a person to fill
[0:54] the vacancy. That's what happened
[0:56] anyway.
[0:56] >> Will you or will you not be coming to
[0:58] Washington tomorrow?
[1:00] >> Well, that decision has not been made.
[1:02] My lawyers will be there and I will be
[1:04] there certainly uh in in a in a day or
[1:06] two to pursue um taking my seat.
[1:09] Absolutely. I am the junior senator from
[1:11] the state of Illinois. Thank you so
[1:12] much.
[1:13] >> Roland Burrus with CBS's Bob Schiffer on
[1:16] Face the Nation. Still ahead on Up to
[1:18] the Minute, it's judgment day for
[1:19] financeier Bernard Maidoff. We'll take a
[1:22] closer look at possible punishments and
[1:24] some new victims in the case.
[1:28] >> It's the money you could be saving with
[1:30] Geico. He's not much for conversation,
[1:33] but if he was, it would be a
[1:35] conversation about saving you money.
[1:38] >> Geico
