[0:03] >> This is the CBS Evening News with Walter
[0:07] Cronkite.
[0:08] >> Good evening. The Soviet Union today
[0:10] invoked its 113th veto in the UN
[0:13] Security Council and thereby killed a
[0:16] tough resolution calling for the removal
[0:18] of Soviet troops in Afghanistan. Richard
[0:20] C. Hottelet reports.
[0:24] >> The Soviet Union overrode 13 Council
[0:26] members to veto a resolution deploring

[1:17] developing states, hand in hand with
[1:19] Western powers and China forced the
[1:21] debate and now intend to move beyond the
[1:24] Soviet veto taking the issue to the
[1:26] General Assembly. The Assembly has no
[1:28] enforcement power but it serves as a
[1:30] world forum to denounce Soviet
[1:32] intervention.
[1:34] This evening, the members of the
[1:35] Security Council are to meet behind
