[0:00] good morning and welcome to revelation
[0:02] revealed this is week number 52. we've
[0:04] made it a whole year of recording
[0:07] through the book of revelation now we
[0:09] did take some time to go through
[0:10] chapters two and three in our sunday
[0:12] night evening services and i think we've
[0:15] added those to the playlist for
[0:17] revelation revealed so you can go back
[0:19] and
[0:19] watch all the way through from chapter
[0:21] one all the way up to today it's chapter
[0:24] number 20. and so it's hard to believe
[0:26] we've gone through all that so far but
[0:28] we're in chapter 20 we're going to read
[0:30] the first three verses here in just a
[0:32] moment
[0:33] now chapter 20 of the book of revelation
[0:35] is one of the most controversial ones in
[0:37] the bible and that's because there's
[0:40] three schools of thought
[0:42] that surround a phrase in this chapter
[0:44] that phrases a thousand years it's
[0:48] mentioned six times in this chapter
[0:51] this particular thousand years is a
[0:53] reference that has been termed the
[0:56] millennium by
[0:58] those that are bible scholars now this
[1:01] thousand years is a time of worldwide
[1:04] bliss
[1:05] which christ will rule on the earth as
[1:07] the king of kings and lord of lords
[1:10] now there are three positions that
[1:12] people generally take when it comes to
[1:15] the phrase the thousand years
[1:17] the first view is all millennialism
[1:20] this view teaches that there will be no
[1:23] thousand year reign of christ at all
[1:25] they do not believe in the literal
[1:27] fulfillment of the old testament
[1:28] prophecies concerning israel
[1:31] the rapture is not anticipated
[1:33] nor is the warning of the last days
[1:35] taken seriously
[1:37] these believe in a literal fulfillment
[1:40] of the kingdom and that christ reigns
[1:43] through
[1:43] believers in peace and righteousness
[1:47] they spiritualize the thousand years as
[1:50] well as most of the book of
[1:52] revelation it is plain to see that this
[1:55] idea is not right in fact in acts
[1:58] chapter 1 verses 10 to 11 where it shows
[2:00] jesus literally ascending up into heaven
[2:04] it also says that this same jesus shall
[2:08] in like manner return
[2:10] and so he's going to come back so if he
[2:12] literally went up he must literally come
[2:16] down
[2:17] and so all millennialism is that
[2:19] spiritualized view that the
[2:21] thousand-year millennium it's not really
[2:23] going to happen
[2:25] the second view is
[2:26] post-millennialism
[2:28] they view christ returning at the close
[2:31] of the thousand years
[2:32] they believe that the world will become
[2:34] an increasingly better place to live
[2:37] over a thousand years until such time
[2:40] that christ would enter the world and
[2:43] become an eternal king
[2:45] now this view was held by many in the
[2:47] 1900s but it's greatly diminished
[2:50] because those who held this view felt
[2:52] the world would get progressively better
[2:55] but as time has shown it's not gotten
[2:57] better it's got progressively worse than
[3:00] it did then
[3:01] the third view is the pre-millennial
[3:03] view
[3:04] these believe that christ will bodily
[3:06] return to earth before the thousand-year
[3:09] reign begins
[3:10] he will establish his kingdom and set up
[3:13] his throne in the rebuilt city of
[3:14] jerusalem
[3:16] throughout scripture the home of the
[3:18] world
[3:19] is found in deliverance
[3:22] that would come in christ's kingdom
[3:24] we pray in the model prayer thy kingdom
[3:28] come thy will be done
[3:31] on what that's right earth
[3:34] as it is in heaven
[3:36] god's will can't be done on earth until
[3:39] the enemies of christ have been defeated
[3:42] and satan has been bound
[3:45] it seems odd that those that reject
[3:47] premillennialism
[3:49] that reject the premillennial literal
[3:51] return of christ by spiritualizing it
[3:54] but they believe in the literalness of
[3:55] the angel in chapter 20 of heaven in
[3:58] chapter 20 the bottomless pit
[4:01] satan the nations and the resurrections
[4:03] mentioned in the context of revelation
[4:06] 20. those are all real but the thousand
[4:09] years
[4:10] it's not my friend we know what the
[4:12] bible says and the bible is literal when
[4:15] it says there's a thousand year reign
[4:17] the millennium is a period of time that
[4:19] is one thousand years in length
[4:22] this thousand-year period is mentioned
[4:24] six times in the chapter and only in
[4:26] this chapter now there are those who say
[4:29] that since it's only in this chapter
[4:32] that mentions a thousand years that it
[4:34] doesn't really mean a thousand years
[4:38] they use psalm 90 verse 4 and 2 peter 3
[4:41] 8 which say that one day
[4:44] is with the lord as a thousand years
[4:47] and a thousand years as one day
[4:50] to prove their points
[4:52] now the important thing to realize about
[4:54] these verses these verses view things
[4:57] through god's eyes
[4:59] and not man's it says in thy sight and
[5:02] with the lord
[5:04] when you read those words it puts these
[5:06] verses in a much different perspective
[5:10] and you realize god's perspective of
[5:12] time is different than man's
[5:14] however on earth god has chosen to
[5:18] operate by man's time frame
[5:21] and so the thousand years is a literal
[5:24] so here at bible baptist church we
[5:25] believe in the premillennial return of
[5:29] jesus christ he will return
[5:31] at the end of the tribulation
[5:34] and before the millennial kingdom begins
[5:37] so last week we dealt with the battle of
[5:40] armageddon christ's return and he
[5:42] defeats the enemy the beast and the
[5:44] false prophet are cast into the lake of
[5:47] fire
[5:48] and then he ushers in the beginning of
[5:50] the millennial kingdom
[5:52] now chapter 20
[5:54] is a highlight chapter in the first few
[5:56] verses let's look at it this morning if
[5:58] you would
[6:00] revelation 20 verse 1 and i saw an angel
[6:03] john sees an angel come down from heaven
[6:07] having the key of the bottomless pit and
[6:09] a great chain in his hand
[6:11] and he laid hold on the dragon that old
[6:14] serpent which is the devil and satan and
[6:18] bound him a thousand
[6:20] years
[6:21] and cast him into the bottomless pit and
[6:24] shut him up and set a seal upon him that
[6:27] he should deceive the nations no more to
[6:30] the thousand years should be fulfilled
[6:32] and after that he must be loosed a
[6:35] little season
[6:37] the first thing we're going to look at
[6:38] today in this chapter is the removal of
[6:41] satan
[6:42] now the chains of men could never bind
[6:44] satan but now there's an angel who comes
[6:47] down from heaven and binds him with a
[6:50] great chain
[6:51] now anything that comes down from heaven
[6:54] has to be created by god this is not a
[6:57] man's chain this is not an angel chain
[6:59] this is god's created chain to bind
[7:02] satan and by the way in case you're
[7:04] wondering satan is not stronger than god
[7:07] satan is a powerful foe but god is all
[7:10] powerful
[7:12] so he cast him into the bottomless pit
[7:15] for a thousand years now the bottomless
[7:17] pit is in the center of the earth
[7:20] this gives the lord open and unopposed
[7:23] rule on earth without sin
[7:26] perhaps now would be a good place to
[7:28] pause and to take a closer look at the
[7:31] devil whose end is foretold in this
[7:33] chapter
[7:35] so let's look at some of the names of
[7:37] satan
[7:39] in verse 2 all trouble and sorrow and
[7:42] suffering and problems of mankind
[7:44] since the beginning of the earth have
[7:47] been traced back to one
[7:49] supernatural personality
[7:52] his origin is found in isaiah chapter 14
[7:56] verses 12 through 15 which says how art
[7:58] thou fallen from heaven o lucifer son of
[8:01] the morning how about thou cut down to
[8:04] the ground which this weakened the
[8:06] nations for thou have said in thine
[8:09] heart i will ascend into heaven i will
[8:12] exalt my throne above the stars of god i
[8:15] will sit upon the mount of the
[8:16] congregation and the sides of the north
[8:19] i will ascend above the heights of the
[8:21] cloud i will be like the most high
[8:26] see the eye problem there that satan had
[8:28] it's called pride
[8:30] verse 15 of that chapter said yet thou
[8:32] shalt be brought down to hell to the
[8:35] sides of the pit
[8:37] in ezekiel 28 verses 12 to 19 it also
[8:40] gives a description of him
[8:42] he's mentioned four times in the text
[8:44] each time with a different name now
[8:46] throughout the bible he's called by many
[8:49] different names
[8:50] in
[8:51] one of his names he's the devil which
[8:54] means the slanderer he slanders god to
[8:58] man and accuses man to god
[9:01] in genesis 3 the devil placed a question
[9:04] in eve's mind as an integra as to the
[9:06] integrity of god when he said yea hath
[9:09] god said
[9:11] you shall not eat of every tree of the
[9:13] garden in genesis chapter 3
[9:16] we find him in job chapter 1 he appears
[9:18] before god to accuse job
[9:21] in ephesians 6 11 we find it that he may
[9:24] be able to stand against
[9:27] the wiles of the devil
[9:29] the devil's business has been making
[9:31] people doubt god
[9:33] and also to take away their faith
[9:37] so you have people who doubt god
[9:40] and
[9:41] decrease in their faith in god we're not
[9:44] talking about their salvation but their
[9:46] trust and their belief in god
[9:49] he also wants to prevent people from
[9:52] being saved and to pollute their minds
[9:56] so he's the slanderer number two name is
[9:58] satan meaning adversary he's our enemy
[10:02] and attacks where we are most vulnerable
[10:05] no half-hearted endeavor can repulse his
[10:08] attacks
[10:09] believers must put their whole hearts
[10:11] into fighting and resisting satan
[10:14] in 1st chronicles 21 1 it says this and
[10:16] satan stood up against israel and
[10:19] provoked david to number israel
[10:22] second chronicles chapter 2 verse 11
[10:24] lest satan should get advantage of us
[10:26] for we are not ignorant of his devices
[10:30] in revelation 21 verses 7 and 8 satan
[10:33] shall go out to deceive
[10:37] he's the adversary he's against you in
[10:40] case you're wondering satan hates you
[10:42] and he wants to destroy your life
[10:45] the next name that's found here in verse
[10:48] number two that we're going to look at
[10:49] today is the serpent
[10:51] the universal symbol of evil
[10:55] a serpent has a poisonous property which
[10:58] makes certain kinds of snakes dangerous
[11:02] genesis 3 now the serpent was more
[11:04] subtle than any beast of the field which
[11:06] the lord god had made
[11:08] you can also read verses about serpents
[11:10] in psalm 58 4 proverbs 23 32
[11:15] snakes often conceal themselves
[11:18] ecclesiastes 10 8 and revelation 12 9
[11:22] they strike
[11:23] when you least expect them to strike
[11:26] that's how satan operates he's a
[11:29] universal snake
[11:32] you find another name that's mentioned
[11:34] in revelation chapter 12 verse number 9
[11:36] apollyon which means destroyer
[11:40] in revelation 12 9 also the dragon a
[11:43] great monster who is fearsome
[11:46] in first peter 5 8 he's the lion meaning
[11:49] he's cruel and cunning and fierce
[11:52] ruling as king of the beasts first peter
[11:54] 5 8 be sober be vigilant because your
[11:57] adversary the devil as a roaring lion
[12:00] walketh about seeking whom he may devour
[12:04] another place in scripture he's called
[12:06] beelzebub meaning the lord of the house
[12:09] or sovereign of all evil spirits in
[12:12] matthew 10 25 if they have called the
[12:15] master of the house beelzebub
[12:18] how much more shall they call them of
[12:20] his household
[12:21] so that's satan's personality
[12:24] satan's plan
[12:26] he wants to
[12:27] destroy that's his name
[12:30] that's what he's who he is
[12:33] i want you to notice secondly the nature
[12:35] of satan he's subtle he's artful crafty
[12:39] insinuating
[12:41] the serpent beguiled eve even through
[12:43] his subtlety
[12:45] he makes sin beautiful and attractive i
[12:48] saw a thought today
[12:51] sin would be less attractive if the
[12:53] wages of sin was paid
[12:56] right now
[12:57] instead of later
[13:00] but he's subtle he's cunning he's sly
[13:04] he's deceitful
[13:06] he
[13:07] second thessalonians 2 9-10 the working
[13:09] of satan with all power and signs and
[13:13] lying wonders with all deceivableness
[13:16] over unrighteousness in them that
[13:19] in second timothy 2 26 he's treacherous
[13:23] he's betraying in first corinthians 11
[13:26] 13 through 14 he was swift
[13:29] satan himself is transformed into an
[13:32] angel of light
[13:33] in first chronicles 21 1 he's intense
[13:37] in second thessalonians 2 9 he's
[13:39] determined
[13:41] the working of satan with all powers and
[13:43] sign and lie he's determined to destroy
[13:47] he's unvarying the relentless in his
[13:49] purpose he tempts today as he did with
[13:52] eve thousands of years ago in the garden
[13:54] of eden
[13:55] he also with judas
[13:57] and ananias and sapphira in acts chapter
[14:00] 5 verse 3 why hath satan fill thine
[14:03] heart
[14:05] satan's got a threefold purpose number
[14:07] one is to prevent the salvation of the
[14:10] unsaved this is done through deception
[14:13] the second plan and purpose of satan is
[14:16] to pollute the purity of the church
[14:18] through false doctrine enticements to
[14:21] worldly living secondary emphasis being
[14:24] more
[14:25] socially minded than gospel minded
[14:29] thirdly to oppose god
[14:31] his life is made up of a vengeance
[14:33] against god for overcoming him in isaiah
[14:37] chapter 14 as we read earlier when he
[14:39] was cast out of heaven
[14:43] that's his purpose
[14:44] that's his nature
[14:46] and that's his names and we've been
[14:49] dealing with him in our lives for our
[14:52] whole entire
[14:54] life
[14:56] but
[14:58] hallelujah for revelation chapter 20
[15:01] verses one through three
[15:03] because we find that satan
[15:06] he's a loser
[15:07] he's going to be bound as the millennial
[15:09] kingdom begins satan is bound for a
[15:12] thousand years you say why is he bound
[15:14] for just a thousand well god always
[15:17] gives mankind a free choice they're
[15:20] gonna be people that are born during the
[15:21] millennium
[15:22] that will have to choose whether to
[15:24] follow god or not and you'll find
[15:26] through the rest of chapter 20 the
[15:28] answer to what happens to that question
[15:31] but god never forces people to
[15:34] accept him as their savior he always
[15:36] gives them a choice
[15:38] so during the millennial kingdom during
[15:40] the thousand-year reign satan will be
[15:42] bound so sin will be repressed
[15:45] that doesn't mean it's going to cease
[15:47] but it'll be repressed the bible says
[15:49] that god will rule and reign with a rod
[15:51] of iron
[15:53] there'll be consequences on earth for
[15:55] sin at that time people will live longer
[15:58] because of the repression of sin
[16:00] but i'm so excited that it says that
[16:03] they're going to cast him in the
[16:04] bottomless pit
[16:06] and he's going to be shut up and there's
[16:08] going to be a seal set upon him that
[16:10] seal there is the seal of god that
[16:13] nobody lets him out but god satan's
[16:16] forces may try to mount an attack on the
[16:18] bottomless pit seal and say oh we'll try
[16:20] to open this up we'll get you out master
[16:23] and they cannot
[16:24] because only god can break the seal
[16:28] but there's a doom coming to satan
[16:31] he's in prison for these thousand years
[16:35] after which
[16:36] he's cast in the lake of fire chapter 20
[16:39] verse 10 says this and the devil that
[16:41] deceived them was cast into the lake of
[16:44] fire and brimstone where the beast and
[16:47] the false prophet are and shall be
[16:49] tormented day and night forever
[16:53] and ever
[16:54] my friend we could say it this way at
[16:57] least
[16:58] that the rapture of the church happens
[17:00] today
[17:01] satan's got about seven years to work
[17:04] his
[17:04] will and his way and his craftiness here
[17:07] upon the earth and then he'll be bound
[17:09] for a thousand years
[17:11] but then after that he'll be loosed for
[17:13] a season
[17:15] after he's got those that have rose up
[17:18] with him to come against god and how
[17:20] foolish would you have to be
[17:23] to rise up against god after living
[17:25] under his righteous rule for a thousand
[17:28] years how foolish would you be but the
[17:30] text tells us the armies as the sand of
[17:34] the sea
[17:36] it's amazing what happens at the end
[17:38] they come against god in the battle of
[17:40] gog and magog we'll talk later about
[17:42] that in other videos
[17:44] but in the end satan's loses
[17:47] so in chapter 20 he's chained up and
[17:49] bound
[17:50] no more
[17:52] detesting the saints
[17:54] no more accusing the saints
[17:57] no more of his craftiness no more of his
[18:00] deceitfulness no more of his subtlety
[18:04] he'll be bound for a thousand years
[18:07] but in the end after that it will be
[18:10] over
[18:12] and jesus christ will rule and reign
[18:15] today if we were to say anything about
[18:17] this section of revelation chapter 20
[18:20] good news is coming
[18:22] we're about seven years away
[18:25] at least
[18:26] if the rapture happened today we'd be
[18:28] seven years away
[18:30] from
[18:31] jesus christ's return and ruling and
[18:33] reigning from jerusalem and satan being
[18:36] bound i want you to tune in next week as
[18:39] we talk a little bit more about the
[18:41] millennial kingdom and the excitement
[18:43] that's found in revelation chapter 20.
