[0:00] often times it's just something you
[0:01] never imagined uh uh because crashes are
[0:04] so rare. Hey Bob, with a with a full
[0:07] tank of fuel in the early stages of a
[0:09] flight, how difficult would it be for a
[0:10] pilot to control this aircraft if a
[0:12] problem arose? Well, with an engine out
[0:15] situation, uh you know, all planes are
[0:18] certified so that they can fly uh on on
[0:22] just in the case of this plane, it has
[0:24] two engines, so they could fly on one
[0:25] engine. Uh but nonetheless uh if an
[0:28] engine goes out, it's a tricky little
[0:30] issue there uh to offset the fact that
[0:32] you've got all the power of the plane
[0:34] coming off a single engine now. And it
[0:36] sets up a kind of an asymmetrical sort
[0:38] of situation and you have to balance for
[0:40] that with the other instruments of the
[0:42] plane. Uh so so that you head the plane
[0:44] in in the direction it's meant, you
[0:46] know, keep it going straight out those.
[0:48] But so again, it is a a very a tricky
[0:52] maneuver, but pilots are trained in it.
[0:54] They train in a simulator for that all
[0:55] the time and it's a very common training
[0:58] exercise. All right, Bob, thanks very
[1:00] much. We're going to be back with you in
[1:01] literally just a few seconds, so stand
[1:04] by. Thanks,
[1:20] Bob. Good morning. It is 10:00 here in
[1:23] the east, 10:00 a.m. 7 a.m. in the west,
[1:26] and we're looking at pictures of an
[1:29] American airline flight 587 that has
[1:32] crashed shortly after takeoff, we're
[1:34] told, from John F. Kennedy Airport here
[1:38] in New York. We know that it was an
[1:40] A300. It was an American Airlines Airbus
[1:44] on route to uh the Dominican Republic to
[1:47] Santa Domingo t
