[0:06] More Israeli casualties in a new rain of
[0:08] Scud missiles. An oil spill in the Gulf
[0:11] that Washington calls environmental
[0:13] terrorism.
[0:15] And US ground troops dig in to wait for
[0:17] the order to attack.
[0:21] This is the CBS Evening News. Dan Rather
[0:23] reporting tonight with a special war
[0:25] update edition. Good evening. One of the
[0:27] darkest fears about a war in the Persian
[0:29] Gulf has been that it could produce an
[0:31] ecological disaster beyond anything the
[0:34] world has seen. Today, President Bush
[0:36] and his aides charged that Saddam
[0:38] Hussein is trying to do just that. The
[0:40] facts are unclear. A huge oil slick is

[1:04] in Israel.
[1:05] The attack on Israel came shortly after
[1:07] the Jewish Sabbath began at sundown. Tom
[1:09] Fenton is in Tel Aviv. Tom?
[1:12] Dan, Saddam Hussein fired a broadside of
[1:14] missiles against Israel tonight. The
[1:16] army counted seven. The new American
[1:19] Patriot missiles failed to stop them
[1:21] all. Close to 70 Israelis were injured.
[1:24] One was killed.
[1:27] Siren's went off as the Jewish Sabbath
[1:29] began. Seconds later, it was Star Wars
[1:32] in the skies of Israel.
[1:37] Volleys of Patriot missiles soared into
[1:39] the night reaching for the incoming
[1:40] rockets.
[1:41] Some of the Patriots made their kill.
[1:44] One exploded in a showe
