[0:03] The battle over the budget. President
[0:04] Clinton promises another veto, but
[0:06] offers an apology to Speaker Gingrich
[0:09] over a perceived snub.
[0:10] >> If it would get the government open, I'd
[0:12] be glad to tell him I'm sorry.
[0:15] >> What will it take? We'll ask the speaker
[0:18] substantive questions tonight, live,
[0:20] one-on-one. And the killer of Itsak
[0:23] Ravine returns to the scene of the crime
[0:25] as Israeli police stage a dramatic
[0:27] reenactment.
[0:32] This is the CBS Evening News with Dan

[1:02] speaking live with the Speaker of the
[1:04] House shortly. But first, Rita Braver
[1:06] begins our coverage. With the budget
[1:09] stalemate still on, President Clinton
[1:11] today announced that starting Monday,
[1:12] he'll call back more than 50,000 workers
[1:15] to process critical claims for
[1:17] government services. If the government
[1:19] shutdown continues to prevent action to
[1:21] accept applications for Medicare, Social
[1:23] Security, and veterans benefits made by
[1:26] seniors and veterans, this backlog would
[1:28] be so great that service to these
[1:31] citizens would not return to normal for
[1:33] months to come.
[1:34] >> And even before receiving it, th
