[0:15] Mr. President, I'm sure that you've
[0:16] wrestled with this question which we
[0:18] hear from many, many Americans. How can
[0:21] he send 20,000 Americans perhaps to die
[0:24] in Bosnia when he himself wouldn't go to
[0:28] Vietnam to fight for his country?
[0:33] I can do it because I'm the president
[0:35] and it's my job to make these decisions.
[0:37] For one thing, Vietnam was a war. The
[0:39] presidents who were there then, I
[0:41] believe they did what they thought was
[0:42] right. That was their job and they did
[0:44] it. This is very different. I was urged
[0:48] by some to send troops there when the
[0:50] war was going on and I declined to do
[0:52] it. I think our country has learned that
[0:54] there are limits to our ability to
[0:56] interfere in someone else's war. If we
[0:59] go in there and we're there for eight or
[1:01] nine or 10 months and the mission is not
[1:03] accomplished and not fulfilled, haven't
[1:05] we done more damage to the alliance than
[1:07] we would have if we didn't go in in the
[1:09] first place? If we leave after a year
[1:12] and they decide that they don't like the
[1:14] benefits of peace and they're going to
[1:15] start fighting again, that does not mean
[1:17] NATO failed. It means we gave them a
[1:19] chance to make their peace and they blew
[1:21] it.
[1:25] Last summer in the cool, pristine
[1:27] corridors of the National Institutes of
[1:29] Health, someone committed a very hot
[1:31] crime. Whoever it was deliberately and
[1:34] maliciously poisoned this pregnant young
[1:36] scientist with a dangerous radioactive
[1:38] isotope.
[1:39] >> What's going on? It is truly a mystery.
[1:44] >> May I have your attention, please? Will
