[0:00] factor check

[0:00] >> and all new justice next Monday

[0:07] >> tonight.

[0:07] >> I mean, look at me. I mean,

[0:10] >> I'm a big old fat guy.

[0:11] >> Stopping local men accused of targeting

[0:13] children. Tonight, Fox 12 goes

[0:15] undercover with local deputies in an

[0:17] exclusive online cyber sting. You never

[0:20] have to bury a pet again. How some

[0:23] people are choosing to keep their

[0:24] animals a part of the family forever.

[0:26] But first,

[0:27] >> it's just heartbreaking because there's

[0:29] nothing you can do.

[0:30] >> People watch as our crippling rain eats

[0:33] away at their homes and threatens to

[0:34] cause even more damage. First, live

[0:37] local weather team coverage of the rain

[0:39] that has much of our area underwater is

[0:42] First on Fox.

[0:44] >> Good evening. Thanks for joining us. I'm

[0:45] Wayne Garcia

[0:46] >> and I'm Shauna Parsons. First on Fox,

[0:47] relentless rain tonight. It is still

[0:49] coming down, flooding streets and

[0:51] forcing many homeowners to scramble.

[0:53] Right now, people living along the coast

[0:54] are on edge, waiting to see if their

[0:56] homes will survive Mother Nature's

[0:57] wrath. And closer to home, rain caused

[1:00] several trees to slam into homes. But

[1:02] that is not all. Traveling by road is

[1:04] nearly impossible in some places with

[1:06] flooding streets and bridges.

[1:08] >> We have first live local team coverage

[1:10] of the fall flood, beginning with KPTV

[1:11] Stephanie Carlo live near Lincoln City

[1:14] where some homes are close to falling

[1:15] into the sea. Stephanie, just how bad is

[1:17] it out there right now?

[1:20] The rain is really coming down right now

[1:23] with some wind gusts up above about 65

[1:25] miles per hour. The rain has been

[1:27] horizontal at times, but it's not just

[1:28] the wind and the rain that have folks

[1:31] here concerned. It's the high seas

[1:33] pounding away at this cliff that has put

[1:35] several homes in danger.

[1:39] >> By tomorrow, I fully expect our

[1:40] foundation to hang over the edge. Lynn

[1:43] and Jim Nelson live in this home

[1:44] overlooking Glenn Eden Beach year round,

[1:47] but they spent today packing up

[1:49] everything they own.

[1:50] >> I don't know what we're going to do now.

[1:53] I don't know.

[1:55] Period. That was everything we had.

[1:59] >> Since Saturday, high seas have pounded

[2:01] the base of the bluff their house sits

[2:03] on, and heavy rains have eroded it. The

[2:05] house used to sit 30 ft back from the

[2:08] edge. Now there's just a few feet left

[2:10] before the drop off. Oh my gosh, you're

[2:12] helpless. And what it's doing is not

[2:15] like crumbling off. It's taking a slice

[2:17] 5 foot 10 foot deep and it's just

[2:19] dropping it straight down.

[2:20] >> The Nelson say they had this house built

[2:23] according to a geologist's report.

[2:25] >> 30 ft back from the the edge of the

[2:28] bluff should have uh been plenty

[2:31] according to their report for the next

[2:34] however many years. I mean forever. The

[2:36] Nelson say this house was more than just

[2:39] a dream home with the view of the Oregon

[2:41] coast. It was an investment and they

[2:43] plan to eventually sell it and retire.

[2:46] The house is one thing. You know, you

[2:47] can get real emotional about your stuff.

[2:50] The thing is I can't replace the

[2:52] investment. I can't I can't get our

[2:54] retirement back.

[2:57] >> Tomorrow's coastal forecast is not

[2:59] looking good for the folks who live

[3:01] around here. Even higher seas are

[3:03] expected tomorrow with 20 to 25 ft

[3:06] swells. Reporting live on the Oregon

[3:08] coast tonight, Stephanie Carovich, the

[3:10] 10:00 news.

[3:11] >> And the rain is making it difficult for

[3:12] drivers on the roads tonight. Highway 35

[3:14] between Government Camp and Hood River

[3:16] is closed and won't reopen until at

[3:18] least midm morning tomorrow. And he

[3:20] should also avoid Highway 6 tonight.

[3:22] Most of that road is closed because of

[3:24] at least three slides. Road crews are

[3:26] trying to clear that highway tonight and

[3:28] they will let people who live in the

[3:29] area through, but other drivers will be

[3:32] turned away. Slides are not the only

[3:33] problem. As you can see, there's a lot

[3:35] of debris in the local rivers, including

[3:37] some full-size trees. You'll definitely

[3:40] want to stay out of the rivers. Currents

[3:41] are strong, and as you can see in this

[3:42] picture, water levels are rising. This

[3:45] is a picture of the Tieuk River

[3:47] overflowing its banks today. A viewer

[3:49] also sent us a picture from her car of

[3:52] flooding in the Tras River. Even fields

[3:54] near there are submerged.

[3:56] >> Well, the coast is usually the first

[3:57] place to flood when we get heavy rain.

[3:59] So, tonight you cannot drive a car on a

[4:00] section of Highway 101 and Seaside

[4:03] because of standing water. However,

[4:05] trucks are allowed. Meanwhile, in Tamok,

[4:07] there is a detour in place because of

[4:09] more high water. There are other areas

[4:11] where water is washing over the road. We

[4:13] found one such spot near Canon Beach.

[4:16] The heavy rain is also causing trouble

[4:17] for drivers closer into the city. In

[4:19] fact, water is right now filling up

[4:21] several local streets. Southeast 92nd

[4:23] between Division and Powell is just one

[4:25] of those that looks more like a pond

[4:27] instead of a road. And that's where

[4:28] KPTV's David Wilson joins us tonight

[4:30] with more. Dave?

[4:31] >> Yeah, this is definitely crashed at your

[4:33] own risk back here. This is a pond in

[4:35] the middle of Southeast 92nd that has

[4:36] formed about a foot to a foot and a half

[4:38] deep. Several cars have stalled out in

[4:40] it tonight uh trying to get through to

[4:42] it and well, it's just one of the places

[4:44] around the city that is saturated with

[4:46] rain tonight.

[4:51] In northeast Portland tonight, a mixture

[4:53] of rain and leaves create small lakes on

[4:55] nearly every corner of Northeast.

[4:59] The deep water and blowing rain make

[5:01] driving treacherous, especially if you

[5:04] ride a bike like Don Wolf.

[5:06] >> I got a helmet with a rain cover and

[5:08] I've got a Gortex coat.

[5:10] >> However, the heavy rain didn't detour

[5:12] Wolf from making his two-mile ride from

[5:14] work to home tonight. But he admits

[5:16] pedaling through large puddles is a bit

[5:18] unnerving. The

[5:19] >> worst places are where you can't see the

[5:20] road for the leaves in the water. You

[5:21] know, because you don't know if there's

[5:22] a rock or a stick in there.

[5:26] >> And if neighbors such as Leonard Jones

[5:28] didn't help the city keep the drains

[5:30] clear, the roadways might even be worse.

[5:33] >> It's flooded all the way down to the

[5:34] corner down there. We're up and over the

[5:36] sidewalks. Cars can't get through and

[5:37] start flooding basement before long or

[5:39] something.

[5:39] >> Jones says more than a foot of water

[5:41] covers his street corner in northeast

[5:43] Portland. He calls this storm one of the

[5:45] worst he remembers in 16 years.

[5:48] >> I haven't seen it this bad. This is This

[5:50] is pretty bad. Yeah.

[5:53] >> But one of the biggest puddles in the

[5:55] city has got to be at Southeast 92nd. It

[5:57] blocks four lanes of traffic.

[6:00] >> It's not that bad.

[6:01] >> You going to go for it?

[6:02] >> Yeah. I'll just go slow.

[6:04] >> And while most drivers make it through,

[6:05] okay, this Volkswagen stalled in the

[6:07] middle, leaving Ben Salajio out in the

[6:10] rain with no ride.

[6:11] >> Don't go through it.

[6:13] um if you do have an SUV or something.

[6:17] >> Now, city officials warned tonight that

[6:19] it's a bad idea to try and cross

[6:20] something like this. It's could be bad

[6:22] for your car and it can be dangerous.

[6:25] But as you can see here, people are

[6:27] nevertheless they're doing it. Live in

[6:29] southeast Portland tonight, David

[6:30] Wilson, the 10:00 news. And that rain is

[6:32] not just causing flooding. Take a look

[6:34] at this 100 ft tall tree that tumbled on

[6:37] the ground in the Oak Grove area. That

[6:39] tree fell on a house and knocked down

[6:41] power lines. Luckily, nobody was home

[6:43] when that tree came crashing down. PGE

[6:45] needed to shut down water and power to

[6:47] that area while they made repairs. So,

[6:49] if the heavy rain is causing problems

[6:51] for you, there is a way to stop it

[6:52] before it gets into your home. Several

[6:54] cities have set up free sandbag

[6:56] stations. KPTV's Kevin Kawari is live at

[6:59] one of those tonight in Beaverton.

[7:00] Kevin, right, Wayne. It's out here for

[7:01] anyone who needs it. And it appears

[7:03] people do need some help dealing with

[7:04] all this pounding rain. You can see here

[7:06] where they've been digging into this big

[7:08] pile of sand and filling up these bags.

[7:10] In fact, earlier tonight, we ran into

[7:12] some of them. Bonnie Conger and her son

[7:14] David were out here. They filled up

[7:16] about a dozen sandbags earlier tonight

[7:18] and they packed them into their car and

[7:20] drove to their home in Beaverton. Now,

[7:22] Conger says she's lived in this home for

[7:24] 20 years and had no problems with

[7:26] flooding until recently. She says the

[7:28] water started seeping into their

[7:30] daylight basement and just in the last

[7:32] couple of days, that started moving into

[7:34] their family room and started ruining

[7:36] their carpet. Congress says she never

[7:38] thought she'd be dealing with a

[7:39] situation like this.

[7:42] >> I grew up in southeast Portland. I'm a

[7:43] native Oregonian. We used to laugh at

[7:45] the people who live on Johnson Creek,

[7:47] you know, and say how, you know, how

[7:49] stupid. I mean, I live in Beaverton in a

[7:52] street with hills, but they're rolling

[7:55] towards my house. I don't know. I never

[7:57] thought I'd be in that situation.

[7:58] >> So, she has a pretty good sense of humor

[8:00] about it. Now, Conger says this past

[8:02] summer she did get some estimates on

[8:03] fixing that problem, but put it off and

[8:06] now obviously it has become a priority

[8:09] once again. Of course, there also are

[8:11] free areas to drop off leaves here and

[8:14] of course the we will tell you more

[8:15] about that coming up a little bit later

[8:16] on in this newscast. For now, live in

[8:18] Beaverton, Kevin Kawari, the 10 o'clock

[8:20] news.

[8:22] >> And tonight, we can be sure that Bonnie

[8:24] Conger isn't the only person who may

[8:25] need those sandbags. So, if you are one

[8:27] of them, we do have a list of sandbag

[8:29] sites on our website, kptv.com.

[8:31] Before you go, you'll want to call the

[8:33] site to make sure it still has bags.

[8:35] Now, if your problem is standing water,

[8:37] we have a link where you can report that

[8:38] problem. Also, on kpv.com, you can find

[8:41] the latest road conditions. Chief

[8:44] Meteorologist Mark Nelson is tracking

[8:45] the storm that's dumping all this water,

[8:47] and he continues our team coverage with

[8:48] more on the rivers passing flood stage

[8:50] right now. Mark?

[8:51] >> Yeah, what a mess. And you take a look

[8:52] live at our Fox Tower cam and you can

[8:54] see the rain just coming down in sheets

[8:56] and not in just one spot like when we

[8:58] get a summer thunderstorm but widespread

[9:00] across much of the area. We'll show you

[9:01] the live radar in a minute. But I think

[9:02] maybe the biggest problem for sure in

[9:04] the morning will be out in Tie County

[9:06] out across the coast range. You have

[9:08] several rivers that converge there on

[9:10] the lowlands. the Tilmok Valley and the

[9:11] Wilson River is forecast to go to major

[9:14] flood stage, rising about 15 ft above

[9:17] flood stage itself by 4:00 a.m. And this

[9:19] would be similar to the 1996 levels. And

[9:22] in 1998, of course, in 1996 level, uh,

[9:25] one of the all-time big floods. Now,

[9:27] look at these rainfall totals. In the

[9:28] last 6 hours, we've had about an inch in

[9:30] most of the metro area. And since

[9:32] yesterday evening, many of us over 3 in

[9:34] of rain. That sometimes doesn't happen

[9:36] more than once every two or three years.

[9:38] So, very wet. Now, take a look at the

[9:39] live radar. Things are moving along here

[9:41] from southwest to northeast and you can

[9:43] see the rain moving in. Can't really

[9:45] focus in on any one spot because

[9:46] everybody's getting the heavy yellows

[9:48] and the reds. That's indicating some

[9:49] pretty heavy rain. We'll let you know

[9:50] when it's going to stop and how messy

[9:52] it's going to be for that morning

[9:53] commute coming up.

[9:56] >> Now, the heavy rains are impacting more

[9:57] than just people tonight. A Hillsboro

[9:58] cat is recovering from a very scary ride

[10:01] after he climbed up under the hood of a

[10:03] car most likely to escape that wet

[10:04] weather. The driver of that car happened

[10:06] to be going from Frontier Veterinary

[10:08] Hospital when another driver spotted the

[10:10] cat hanging out of a wheel well. Well,

[10:12] she pulled over and the animal was able

[10:14] to wrigle its way out of there. Doctors

[10:16] say that the animal's front paws are

[10:18] burned, but he is expected to be okay.

[10:21] >> It's warm. You know, they're outdoor

[10:23] kitties. They're outside at night and

[10:25] it's a warm place for them to crawl up

[10:27] into and sleep overnight. And you don't

[10:29] think about it. I mean, but it is a nice

[10:32] warm place. that probably stays warm for

[10:33] many hours after you turn off your car.

[10:35] >> Yeah. Well, doctors believe the cat's

[10:37] about two or three years old and is in

[10:38] good health aside from today's injuries.

[10:40] If you know who this cat belongs to, you

[10:42] can get a closer look at him and find a

[10:43] link to the vet hospital on our website,

[10:45] kptv.com.

[10:47] And keep watching Fox 12. For your

[10:49] latest on the first live local weather

[10:51] before you head out of the house

[10:52] tomorrow morning, be sure and watch Good

[10:53] Day Oregon. Andy Carson and Tony

[10:54] Martinez will have the latest look at

[10:56] both weather and traffic for you that

[10:58] you'll be dealing with. Again, it all

[10:59] starts tomorrow morning at 5:00.

[11:02] The 10:00 news is just getting started.

[11:05] It's a cyber sting with a whole new

[11:07] twist.

[11:08] >> Get on the ground with your head.

[11:10] >> For the first time, the Fox 12

[11:11] investigators team up with deputies to

[11:14] bust online predators. Two men found

[11:16] dead on the side of Highway 26. Now, the

[11:19] murders may be tied to a raid in this

[11:21] home in Southeast Portland. How police

[11:23] say they made the connection. You've

[11:25] seen which cars scored tops in crash

[11:27] tests. Now, which cars scored the

[11:29] lowest? We'll count down the least safe

[11:31] cars in the final cut. More problems for

[11:34] the space program. Why a computer glitch

[11:36] could ground shuttle missions till next

[11:38] year. And you may have noticed Fox 12

[11:41] has a new look. We'll take you on a tour

[11:43] of our new set and show you why it's the

[11:46] most high-tech in town.

[11:48] >> You're watching the 10:00 news first

[11:51] live local.

[11:55] Your vote 2006 live with lastminute drop

[11:58] off information and in-depth election

[12:00] coverage. Good day Oregon tomorrow

[12:02] morning starting at 5 on Fox 12 Oregon.

[12:05] >> The Oregonian says in many races voters

[12:07] will get one choice. The incumbent and

[12:12] limits want to keep it that way.

[12:13] Oregonians are voting yes on term

[12:15] limits. Yes on 45. More competition,

[12:55] people and ideas. You'll be willing to

[12:57] take a stand if they know they're not

[12:58] going to be there forever.

[13:00] >> Yes. On 45. More accountability, more

[13:03] choices.

[13:05] >> A local high school finds a special way

[13:07] for students to remember two classmates

[13:08] found murdered in their own home. The

[13:10] memorial coming up on the 10:00 news.

[13:46] >> Oregon's waited a long time for results

[13:48] from Ted Kulinkski, but Ted's time is

[13:51] up. Newspapers call Kulingoski a no-show

[13:54] governor who has not stepped up to lead.

[13:57] Ron Saxton will change Oregon with

[13:59] education reform, more money into

[14:01] classrooms, a focus on results. He'll

[14:03] hold the line on taxes, cut waste,

[14:06] control spending with leadership, not

[14:08] partisanship. Kulanoski won't make the

[14:10] changes Oregon needs, but you can. Ron

[14:13] Saxton for governor. Fox Tuesday. House

[14:16] faces his most bizarre medical mystery.

[14:18] >> Whatever is wrong has nothing to do with

[14:20] my weight. He must be discharged

[14:22] tomorrow.

[14:22] >> Oh, sure. Places to go. People to eat.

[14:24] >> We want to drill a hole in my head.

[14:28] >> LOOKS like we got ourselves a mystery.

[14:30] Viewer discretion advised. House Tuesday

[14:32] at 9 on Fox 12 Oregon.

[14:36] Tonight, we've learned it will be

[14:38] business as usual at a Salem school

[14:39] after a gun scare. Someone reported

[14:41] seeing two males with a gun at the

[14:43] Oregon School for the Deaf around 1:30

[14:45] this afternoon. Police searched the

[14:47] school and found nothing suspicious.

[14:49] Many concerned parents came to pick up

[14:51] their kids after that scare.

[14:54] >> I think some of the other parents were

[14:56] really scared.

[14:57] >> Authorities turned the school back over

[14:59] to staff members and everything is back

[15:01] to normal tonight.

[15:04] And now to operation cyber sting. Local

[15:07] deputies cracking down on men who meet

[15:09] teens online for sex. Fox 12 teamed up

[15:12] with the Multma County Sheriff's Office

[15:13] and with the help of federal ICE agents

[15:16] began searching for suspects. We took

[15:18] over a house in northeast Portland and

[15:20] chatted online. What we found was

[15:22] shocking. In just three days, deputies

[15:24] arrested three men, all who, according

[15:26] to police reports, tried to have sexual

[15:28] contact with girls they thought were

[15:30] teenagers, one as young as 13. Fox 12

[15:33] investigator Carrie Tomlinson was the

[15:35] first TV reporter to do this type of

[15:37] sting. And since, as you probably know,

[15:39] national news has followed suit. Carrie,

[15:41] it seems to still be a big problem here.

[15:42] >> Well, indeed. The Multma County

[15:44] Sheriff's Department says it is a big

[15:45] problem around the country and right

[15:48] here in the Portland area. For the past

[15:50] two years, Fox 12 has exposed online

[15:52] predators. But you, the viewers, have

[15:55] asked for more. So, tonight, we show you

[15:57] what can happen when we work together

[15:59] with the Multma County Sheriff's Office

[16:01] and federal ICE agents to take these

[16:03] local suspects to court. Now, the first

[16:06] one, and we have the chat logs here, is

[16:08] a soccer coach from Gresham.

[16:11] >> Here he comes. Wave. Wave.

[16:13] >> This is how the date began. Seconds

[16:16] later, the romance was over. Go, go, go,

[16:19] go, go.

[16:20] >> Multa County Sheriff's deputies arrest a

[16:22] man in his 50s.

[16:25] >> Get on the ground with your head.

[16:27] >> Saying he tried to have sex with an

[16:29] underage girl.

[16:31] >> Don't move. Don't move.

[16:33] >> The courtship started days back online.

[16:37] Detectives say 55year-old Harry Steven

[16:40] Bailey of Gresham was chatting up

[16:42] 15year-old Victoria of Portland. I love

[16:46] the sweet taste of I bet you taste so

[16:49] sweet. Do you get real wet?

[16:52] >> Meet Victoria, Multma County Detective

[16:54] Bobby O'Donnell. Not a teen, not female,

[16:57] and not interested in letting predators

[16:59] take over the internet. When Harry

[17:02] Bailey asked to come over and meet

[17:03] Victoria alone, the detective agreed.

[17:08] Cameras set, arrest team ready, decoy at

[17:12] the door. As he came out of the car, my

[17:14] only thoughts were, "Okay, I got to get

[17:16] in the house. I got to get in the house.

[17:17] Don't let him touch me. E, don't let him

[17:18] touch me."

[17:20] >> In the driveway,

[17:23] >> Stephen.

[17:24] >> Yeah. Are you

[17:26] so cold?

[17:29] >> He's going

[17:32] go.

[17:33] >> Harry Steven Bailey has coached soccer

[17:35] in Gresham with his daughter's team,

[17:38] girls the same age as Victoria. The

[17:41] chatlog shows he told Victoria he wanted

[17:44] to climb on top and go deep inside.

[17:47] >> Online is one thing. You know, you do

[17:50] say anything online.

[17:51] >> But showing up at a house where a girl

[17:53] is alone is another thing.

[17:56] >> And well, that's why I said go outside.

[17:59] That way she could see me and and I can

[18:02] get it done over with and leave. You

[18:03] know, I really I really thought she'd

[18:05] look at me and say, "Ooh." So, you were

[18:08] going to come here and you were going to

[18:09] tell the girl that you're too ugly to

[18:11] have sex with her. But if she said okay,

[18:13] then you were going to have sex with

[18:14] her?

[18:15] >> No, I wasn't. I was going to tell that

[18:16] she's crazy. And and I don't, like I

[18:18] said, I don't think I can. I'm I'm

[18:21] pretty much impotent.

[18:22] >> Watching his hunched over position the

[18:24] whole time. I just felt bad for him, but

[18:26] I don't want him just roaming around

[18:28] either. But then he played up the

[18:30] impetent story, so I kind of felt bad

[18:32] for that, too.

[18:33] >> I don't even think I could get it up. uh

[18:36] let alone I mean look at me. I mean I'm

[18:40] a big old fat guy.

[18:41] >> But what Harry Bailey is not saying is

[18:43] that he has a pill in his pocket.

[18:45] Deputies say Viagra perhaps for

[18:48] Victoria.

[18:49] >> My last question for you is what would

[18:51] you do if you drove back home tonight

[18:54] and you found a man in his 50s having

[18:57] sex with your daughter?

[18:58] >> I'd be very upset.

[19:02] >> What would you do?

[19:03] >> I don't know. I really don't know.

[19:05] How would you feel?

[19:08] >> I don't know, ma'am.

[19:10] >> But that's what you were going to do.

[19:12] >> No, I was not going to I I was not going

[19:14] to have sex with her. That's why I told

[19:16] her, "Come outside. Just be outside."

[19:18] And I was going to tell her, "Hey, you

[19:21] you can't do this."

[19:22] >> This man, a former Marine who says he

[19:25] works at the veterans hospital, is going

[19:27] to jail to be booked and charged.

[19:30] >> All right. Have a seat there with your

[19:31] jacket. We'll get you in the back in a

[19:32] few moments. For the decoy, the date is

[19:35] over, but she hopes their romance, their

[19:38] meeting, and their goodbye will help

[19:40] keep kids safe online.

[19:42] >> He needs to be locked away then for a

[19:44] while and seek lots of treatment.

[19:49] >> Now, Harry Steven Bailey is going to

[19:50] court on state charges. He was released

[19:53] from jail last week while waiting for

[19:54] those court proceedings. However,

[19:56] tonight he was arrested again by ICE

[19:59] agents and this complaint shows that he

[20:01] will be facing federal charges as well.

[20:04] Reporting live, Carrie Tomlinson, the

[20:06] 10:00 news.

[20:07] >> He's always making sure I go to bed on

[20:09] time.

[20:10] >> Well, after deputies arrested Harry

[20:12] Bailey, Fox 12 talked with both his wife

[20:14] and daughter. And coming up in the final

[20:16] cut, you will hear from them and from

[20:18] the soccer league where Bailey used to

[20:20] coach. It may be alarming to see just

[20:22] how easy it is for men to meet teens

[20:24] online, but there are ways that you can

[20:26] help keep your kids safe. According to

[20:28] the FBI, children are most at risk at

[20:30] night. So, limiting their evening time

[20:32] online could help. Sex offenders often

[20:35] use porn to begin conversations

[20:36] involving sex, so be sure to look for

[20:38] anything suspicious. And if your child

[20:40] is getting phone calls from men you

[20:42] don't know, hang up on them. The

[20:44] offender usually tries to have phone sex

[20:45] with the kids before actually meeting

[20:47] them in person. And for more tips on

[20:49] what to look for, you can log on to our

[20:51] website, kpv.com.

[20:53] >> Well, it is one of the closest races in

[20:56] Oregon this year, the race for governor.

[20:57] >> Coming up, here what the candidates are

[20:59] doing to earn your vote 2006 in the last

[21:01] hours before election day.

[21:08] >> Reality TV comes to smalltown, Oregon.

[21:10] You've got a front row seat as the stars

[21:17] list, stay tuned. We have a list of the

[21:18] cars you'll want to avoid based on the

[21:20] latest crash tests.

[21:22] >> And I'm back here in the first live

[21:23] local weather center. A lot of rain

[21:24] falling around throughout the Gresham.

[21:26] That's the heaviest stuff in the metro

[21:27] area right now. But what else did you

[21:29] notice about today? It was warm. We are

[21:31] about to have our warmest night ever in

[21:33] November. We haven't even dropped below

[21:34] 63 so far early this morning. We had a

[21:37] record high as well. When did things go

[21:38] back to normal and when do we see snow

[21:40] for the skiers in the mountains? We'll

[21:41] have some answers coming up.

[21:43] You're watching the 10:00 news first

[22:20] >> One of these letters is dangerous

[22:22] because it's the governmentmandated

[22:23] notice of a teen's pregnancy being

[22:25] delivered to an abusive parent. Measure

[22:28] 43 sets up an automatic required

[22:30] notification to parents with no

[22:32] exceptions for rape or even incest. It

[22:35] puts at risk teens in greater danger. No

[22:38] counseling, no protection, just an

[22:40] impersonal and dangerous letter sent in

[22:43] the mail. Measure 43. It's not so simple

[22:47] and it's definitely not safe.

[22:49] >> Still tonight, see what makes the Fox 12

[24:28] get $2,500 cash back on this incredibly

[24:30] powerful truck. Or you can choose 1.9%

[24:33] APR financing for 60 months. A great

[24:36] deal. Either way, don't you think it's

[24:38] time to upgrade? Look into a Tundra.

[24:40] Toyota, a smart way to keep moving

[24:43] forward.

[24:46] A new survey shows teens are binge

[24:48] drinking more overall. The healthy teen

[24:50] survey reports eighth graders binge

[24:52] drink 15% more than last year. Many

[24:55] eighth graders listed hard alcohol as

[24:56] their drink of choice. Students also say

[24:58] it's easy for them to get alcohol. But

[25:00] there is some good news for parents. 80%

[25:02] of students who think their parents

[25:04] disapprove of underage drinking said

[25:06] they didn't drink any alcohol in the

[25:08] month before that survey.

[27:43] >> The McMento News Register says Measure

[27:45] 42 is a bad idea that will raise

[29:48] >> A double murder mystery in Washington

[29:50] County is a little less mysterious

[29:52] tonight now that a Portland man is

[29:53] behind bars. Last night, police arrested

[29:55] Frank Hudson on murder charges. They

[29:57] think he's connected to the discovery of

[29:59] two bodies yesterday along Highway 26

[30:02] near Banks. KPTV's Jamie Wilson joins us

[30:04] live from Southeast Portland now with

[30:05] more. Jamie.

[30:06] >> Well, 39 miles away from where those two

[30:09] bodies were found. Right here, police

[30:11] have taped off a new crime scene at this

[30:14] house, this is where Frank Hudson lives

[30:16] and where he was arrested last night.

[30:19] It's right across the street from

[30:20] Brentwood Park here. But tonight, we

[30:22] still don't know who the victims are or

[30:24] if Hudson has any connection to them.

[30:28] Tonight, one officer guards the scene at

[30:30] this Southeast Portland home where

[30:32] detectives are still searching for

[30:33] evidence in a double murder. This is

[30:36] where cops arrested 62-year-old Frank

[30:38] Hudson last night after a grizzly

[30:40] discovery on Highway 26. Two men dead

[30:43] and one of the bodies cut in half.

[30:46] >> Yes. And I've seen him many times.

[30:47] >> You have? Yeah, sure.

[30:48] >> Arleta McKon lives right next door to

[30:50] Hudson. She says he's been renting a

[30:52] room from the owner here for about 2

[30:54] years. She doesn't know him well, but

[30:57] says he works at night and he always

[30:59] seemed polite.

[31:00] >> He was a pretty friendly man, but but he

[31:03] would walk by in the afternoon on his

[31:05] way to work. He didn't have a car, I

[31:07] don't believe.

[31:09] >> Detectives think Hudson had a car

[31:10] yesterday, a maroon minivan out on this

[31:13] stretch of Highway 26. A driver spotted

[31:16] the bodies at the end of a local man's

[31:18] driveway.

[31:19] >> Says, "John, there's a bloody towel in

[31:21] the road." Judy and John Neely live next

[31:23] door and they could not believe their

[31:25] eyes.

[31:26] >> This is quiet part of the of the county

[31:27] and uh you know we don't want Portland

[31:30] business coming out here but uh uh

[31:32] things like that just don't happen out

[31:33] here.

[31:34] >> Police suspect there is a solid Portland

[31:36] connection that led them right to this

[31:38] house and that is putting some neighbors

[31:41] on edge.

[31:42] >> It tends to uh make me, you know, worry

[31:45] uh be a little more apprehensive. We

[31:47] want to be uh paying more attention to

[31:49] what's going on around here.

[31:51] Now, police have found the car they

[31:53] think Hudson was driving this past

[31:55] weekend. It is a 2000 maroon Ford

[31:58] Winstar with Oregon license plate

[32:00] 008BZD.

[32:03] If you saw this van in Washington County

[32:06] or anywhere around the Portland area in

[32:07] the last few days, police want to hear

[32:10] from you. Live in Southeast Portland

[32:12] tonight, Jamie Wilson, the 10:00 news.

[32:17] Governor Ted Kulingowski and Republican

[32:19] challenger Ron Saxton made final efforts

[32:21] to charm voters today. Governor

[32:23] Kulingowski went to a get out the vote

[32:24] rally in Lincoln City. He spoke about

[32:27] returning America to the Democratic

[32:28] Party. Meanwhile, Saxton headed to an

[32:31] organic cosmetics company in Clakamus

[32:33] County where he promised to cut down on

[32:35] small business regulations. As of

[32:37] Saturday, Democrats were showing higher

[32:39] voter turnout with over 46,000 more

[32:42] ballots returned. If you're running out

[32:44] of time to cast your vote 2006, you now

[32:46] have less than 24 hours left to drop off

[32:49] your ballot. In Multma County, more than

[32:51] 146,000 people have turned in those

[32:53] ballots. That's about 37% of the

[32:56] registered voters there. In Washington

[32:58] County, more than 95,000 votes are in.

[33:00] That's about 39% and Clackamus County as

[33:03] you see there. 86,000 ballots so far

[33:05] counted and that is about 41%. Fox 12 is

[33:53] >> And Mark Nelson joins us now. This is

[33:56] one of the first days I can remember in

[33:57] a long time when it just rained. Solid,

[33:59] continuous, did not stop

[34:00] >> sheets of rain. And still tonight it

[34:02] continues. I think maybe we have another

[34:03] eight hours, which I thought maybe it

[34:05] would end around 1:00 a.m. in just a

[34:06] couple hours, but I think it may stick

[34:08] around till Good Day Oregon time. Going

[34:10] to have to watch and I think the morning

[34:11] commute could be messy. If the heavy

[34:12] rain continues, that'll mean more

[34:14] flooding. So, take a live look outside

[34:15] at this hour on our Fox Tower Cam. We've

[34:17] been watching this all night. Look at

[34:18] the rain just coming down out there.

[34:19] It's actually decreased just a little

[34:21] bit. It's not quite as heavy as it was

[34:22] earlier, but then we go down to the

[34:24] river cam and plenty wet down there and

[34:26] it's just darn wet everywhere. There's

[34:28] nowhere that is really staying dry in

[34:30] northwest Oregon. And now take a look at

[34:31] the live radar at this hour. I've got it

[34:33] moving here and you kind of see the

[34:35] movement here. It's coming in off the

[34:37] ocean and then it's coming in from the

[34:38] southwest and hitting the mountains. And

[34:40] mountains tend to get the heaviest

[34:42] rainfall. You know, there are spots in

[34:43] the coast range and the Cascades that

[34:45] have seen 10 to 15 inches of rain since

[34:48] last Thursday. That's a foot of rain.

[34:49] That's incredible. Part of the reason

[34:51] it's a tropical air mass, subtropical

[34:53] air mass, and when it's that warm, it

[34:54] can hold a lot of moisture. So you see

[34:56] it continuing to stream on shore. That's

[34:58] the edge of the radar. That's why it

[34:59] looks like it's ending out there, but

[35:00] it's really not. We go a little bit

[35:01] closer. Looks like the heaviest stuff in

[35:03] town right now, or at least in the metro

[35:04] area. Newberg getting some good rain

[35:06] there. Then up towards Sherwood on

[35:08] Highway 99W and up over Shahala Mountain

[35:10] as well. Now, what else did you feel

[35:12] today? Those warm temperatures. It was

[35:14] well kind of subtropical out there. Take

[35:16] a look at the temperatures this

[35:17] afternoon. It was 68 here in Portland,

[35:20] 69 in Salem, hit 70 in Eugene, 78 over

[35:23] Hermiston. And then you look at the

[35:25] rainfall amounts. This is really

[35:26] interesting. It really never rained at

[35:27] Eugene today. The rain was coming in

[35:29] just about like this across the state. 3

[35:32] in here in Portland since 400 p.m. last

[35:34] night. So what about 30 hours over 4 in

[35:37] at a story and as I said some some

[35:39] places in the Cascades maybe double that

[35:41] amount. So some really heavy rainfall

[35:43] amounts. So flood warnings I think we'll

[35:45] see a bunch more by tomorrow morning.

[35:46] Andy Carson and Drew Jackson have the

[35:48] latest on that tomorrow morning. But

[35:49] Lewis River at Woodland, Katz River,

[35:51] Castle Rock kind of minor flooding for

[35:53] now, but major flooding on the on the

[35:55] Halen River, the Wilson and the Tras

[35:57] rivers as I mentioned at the beginning

[35:58] of the show and then the Stucka River at

[36:00] Beaver and also the Celelet River at

[36:01] Celeste. And as I mentioned, this is

[36:03] kind of like a fire hose. Look at all

[36:04] this tropical moisture coming up or

[36:06] subtropical either way. A lot of

[36:08] moisture coming with it. Parts of this

[36:10] is the leftovers of an old typhoon near

[36:12] Japan. So there's a lot of moisture to

[36:13] start with, but this will all shift to

[36:14] the east by tomorrow afternoon. And

[36:16] cooler air, more normal rain showers

[36:18] will show up as we go through the latter

[36:20] part of the week. You can see in the

[36:21] cloud and rain forecast tomorrow

[36:22] morning, about 4 hours from now, still

[36:24] plenty of rain, but looks how look how

[36:26] it all ss down to the south by 8:30 a.m.

[36:29] still wet and then things starting to

[36:30] die down in the afternoon. So I think

[36:32] tomorrow afternoon, just light showers.

[36:34] And Wednesday looks pretty nice. Just

[36:36] scattered light showers and the snow

[36:38] levels will drop in the Cascades.

[36:39] Another system comes in, that's a cold

[36:40] one to bring snow to the mountains. So,

[36:42] uh, heavy rain and wind until daybreak,

[36:44] another 1 to two inches possible in the

[36:45] valleys. Widespread moderate flooding by

[36:48] that. I don't expect to see widespread

[36:49] big big problems and then lighter rain

[36:52] and a colder rain the rest of the week.

[36:53] And finally, some snow pack in the

[36:55] Cascades along the coast. Temperatures

[36:57] in the right around 60°ree mark for

[36:59] tomorrow. What we'll really see is

[37:00] temperatures not moving much tonight and

[37:02] then they drop in the daytime tomorrow

[37:03] as a cooler air works in to the east

[37:05] side. Lots of light rain tomorrow, 60 at

[37:07] Bend. In the Cascades, rain changes to

[37:09] snow late. Timberline drops into the

[37:11] upper 20s late in the day. And your

[37:13] first live and local forecast here in

[37:14] town. Temperatures stay right around 60°

[37:17] and then we cool off as the day goes on.

[37:20] We end up right around the lower 50s by

[37:22] late in the day and your 7-day forecast.

[37:25] >> As I said, much cooler. No more of this

[37:27] tropical type air,

[37:28] >> but lots of snow coming up in the

[37:29] mountains towards the end of the week.

[37:30] And that's good news.

[37:31] >> All right. Thanks.

[37:32] >> Well, if you thought our set looked a

[37:34] little different tonight, you are right.

[37:35] Tonight, we're coming to you from a

[37:36] brand new studio that's been in the

[37:38] works for a month.

[37:39] >> That's right. It doesn't just look good,

[37:40] but we have more technology on this set

[37:42] than any other station in town. And here

[37:44] is a behind-the-scenes tour. And keep an

[37:46] eye on the corner of your screen because

[37:48] we have a time lapse video of the new

[37:50] set from start to finish.

[37:51] >> And we're going to begin with Mark

[37:52] Nelson and a look at the brand new First

[37:53] Live Local weather set.

[37:55] >> Well, in my career in Portland, I've

[37:56] gone through a bunch of weather sets and

[37:58] this is definitely the best one. Mainly

[37:59] because we gave ourselves a whole bunch

[38:01] of room and made it so that two

[38:02] meteorologists can work. One right here,

[38:05] another one over here. here. And so when

[38:06] we have a big snowstorm, we can bring

[38:08] you all the latest information. Of

[38:09] course, we have the radar right behind

[38:10] us on big screens and we lost our

[38:12] windows, but we have better views on two

[38:14] big TV screens, our live cameras. Wayne,

[38:17] over here, we have something pretty

[38:18] impressive on this side of the studio.

[38:20] It's a 100in monitor. And what's pretty

[38:23] impressive is not only the big picture,

[38:25] but the four smaller pictures. So if

[38:26] anything big is happening on breaking

[38:28] news, for instance, we can give you

[38:30] every angle of the story. Shauna,

[38:32] >> because the web is such an important

[38:34] part of our lives, we have a brand new

[38:35] kptv.com set. It's a touchscreen monitor

[38:38] so we can bring you the sites we're

[38:39] referring to. And take a look at this.

[38:41] We have new tools so we can highlight

[38:43] the areas you need to see.

[38:45] >> And everything you see was created or

[38:47] bought right here in Oregon. The set was

[38:50] designed by locals. Carpenters from the

[38:52] Northwest built it all. All of the

[38:54] monitors you see were purchased from two

[38:56] different local companies.

[38:57] >> And here's something that really sets

[38:59] this studio apart. Take a look at this

[39:01] mural. It spans the entire wall behind

[39:03] our set. Fox 12 commissioned local

[39:05] artist Jose Solis. He spent about three

[39:08] weeks painting this mural, one of the

[39:10] largest he's done. It captures some of

[39:12] the most well-known and beautiful places

[39:14] and things in the Portland area.

[39:15] >> Hope people enjoy looking at it. You

[39:18] know, uh so far what I've heard is that

[39:20] people get a really nice feeling when

[39:24] looking at this uh

[39:26] >> painting kind of hanging.

[39:28] >> So there you have it. And if you'd like

[39:29] to take another look at the new set or

[39:31] watch the time-lapse video again that

[39:32] you saw in the corner, we've posted it

[39:33] on our website, kptv.com.

[39:38] >> In tonight's final cut, an aircraft

[43:18] high school memories marred by murder.

[43:20] Students at Washington County's Westview

[43:22] High School had a chance today to mourn

[43:24] the death of a classmate and his family.

[43:26] Someone killed Steven Deng last week

[43:28] along with his younger brother Jimmy and

[43:30] their mother Melody. Steven friends

[43:32] gathered in the student center to

[43:34] express their grief.

[43:36] >> Yeah, he's like the guy I trusted like

[43:38] the most and everything.

[43:40] It

[43:40] >> was a tough weekend for you.

[43:42] >> Yeah, I've been crying like the whole

[43:44] weekend. Investigators have yet to

[43:47] identify a suspect or a motive, but they

[43:49] do say the killer probably knew the

[43:51] family.

[43:52] >> A suspect is on the loose after a

[43:53] stabbing left a man in serious condition

[43:55] at an Aloa apartment complex. It

[43:57] happened last night on Southwest

[43:58] Heritage Court. Deputies say someone

[44:00] stabbed Manuel Palestino Angel in his

[44:03] chest several times as he got out of his

[44:05] car. He needed to be rushed to a local

[44:07] hospital. Deputies hope the victim can

[44:09] give them more information on this case

[44:11] as he recovers. Well, if you put your

[44:13] child on the school bus each day, a new

[44:15] study says that it might not be as safe

[44:16] as you might think. Researchers in Ohio

[44:19] say that school bus related accidents

[44:20] send 17,000 kids to the emergency room

[44:23] every year. That's more than double the

[44:25] National Traffic Safety Administration's

[44:26] estimate. The researchers say the

[44:28] federal numbers only count traffic

[44:30] accidents, but don't include things like

[44:32] kids falling while getting on and off

[44:34] the bus. If you're in the market for a

[44:36] new car, here's a list of the cars that

[44:38] you need to see. Forbes magazine has

[44:40] picked out the least safe cars for the

[44:42] 2007 model year based on test results

[44:44] from the Insurance Institute of Highway

[44:45] Safety. The Saturn Ion four-door with or

[44:48] without optional side airbags earned a

[44:51] poor side impact rating in tests. It

[44:53] also had marginal rear crash protection.

[44:55] The Suzuki Aro four-door and Aerial SX

[44:59] also earned a poor rating on side impact

[45:01] crashes and marginal on rear crash

[45:03] protection. The Suzuki Forenza four-door

[45:06] was poor on both side and rear crash

[45:08] protection. And if your car comes with

[45:10] optional side airbags, you may want to

[45:12] pay the extra money. The Toyota Corolla,

[45:14] Ford Focus, Chevy Cobalt, and Mazda 3,

[45:17] earned poor side impact ratings without

[45:20] their airbags. Google's latest

[45:22] investment is Time magazine's invention

[45:25] of the year. YouTube, the video sharing

[45:28] website, beat out a vaccine that

[45:30] prevents a cancer-causing sexually

[45:31] transmitted disease. Well, times say

[45:34] that YouTube changed the rules about how

[45:37] information gets distributed over the

[45:38] internet. As mentioned, Google just

[45:40] acquired YouTube for $1.6 billion. In

[45:43] case you're wondering, the invention of

[45:44] the year last year was Sny, a cloned

[45:48] puppy. The secret is out. Take a look.

[45:50] Victoria's Secret has uncovered its

[45:52] newest bra, the Secret Embrace Very Sexy

[45:55] Bra. That's what it's called. Makers say

[45:57] that it has no labels, is stitch free,

[45:59] and provides a lot of support. It also

[46:01] has a leopard print lining. The new bra

[46:03] hit store shelves tomorrow and it will

[46:05] cost $48.

[46:08] >> Hey, news from across America tonight.

[46:10] NASA can get a shuttle into space, but

[46:11] it can't give it a clock that

[46:13] understands the new year. The shuttle

[46:15] Discovery's computer can't reset on

[46:17] January 1st. And now that computer

[46:20] problem could ground the shuttle

[46:21] Discovery until 2007. NASA plans to

[46:24] launch the orbiter in December for a

[46:26] 12-day mission. But if it can't fix the

[46:28] problem by the 17th, NASA says it will

[46:30] likely wait until next year.

[46:33] Well, it turns out you don't have to say

[46:35] goodbye when a beloved pet passes away.

[46:37] Now you can freeze dry your pets. This

[46:40] is true. Pet owners say it's a way to

[46:42] keep their memories alive. Some

[46:44] taxiderermists even specialize in this

[46:46] practice. They use a vacuum to evaporate

[46:49] moisture out at 100° below zero.

[46:52] Freezeing a pet will cost you anywhere

[46:54] from 95 to $2,000.

[46:56] Virginia police want to know what caused

[46:58] an accident that killed three Boy Scouts

[47:00] and their leader. That crash happened

[47:01] yesterday when an SUV packed with scouts

[47:04] veered off the road, hit a tree, then

[47:05] caught fire. A 12-year-old who survived

[47:07] that wreck is being treated at a

[47:09] hospital. The scouts were on their way

[47:10] home from a camping trip. A cruise ship

[47:13] passenger is missing tonight. An

[47:14] eyewitness says he watched the

[47:15] 42-year-old passenger fall overboard

[47:18] Saturday night. The Carnival Conquest

[47:20] cruise ship was sailing in the

[47:21] Caribbean. Carnival staff spent

[47:23] yesterday searching for the unidentified

[47:25] man. That ship is now docked in

[47:27] Galveastston, Texas.

[47:31] >> Now to more on our Operation Cyber

[47:33] Sting. Tonight, we introduce you to a

[47:34] local soccer coach accused of using the

[47:36] internet to meet a teenage girl he

[47:37] wanted to have sex with. And now you're

[47:39] going to hear from his wife, daughter,

[47:41] and other soccer league members. KPTV's

[47:43] Carrie Thomasson joins us with the new

[47:45] details on this Fox 12 investigation.

[47:46] Carrie?

[47:47] >> Well, he was a soccer coach for the East

[47:49] Side United League. Today, the league

[47:51] put out this letter letting parents know

[47:53] that one of their own has been arrested.

[47:56] And the league says no matter what the

[47:57] outcome of this court case, it is

[48:00] heartbreaking.

[48:03] >> Teen soccer players take the field in

[48:05] Gresham. Across town, one of their

[48:07] former coaches is caught up in a game of

[48:10] his own.

[48:11] >> Don't roll over. Detectives say

[48:13] 55year-old Harry Steven Bailey came to

[48:16] this house in Portland

[48:19] >> to meet a 15year-old girl for sex after

[48:22] chatting online.

[48:24] >> All right.

[48:26] >> You're a sexy angel. I would love to

[48:28] watch you as you my

[48:30] >> He's a good guy. So

[48:32] I don't think there is anything wrong.

[48:34] Hopefully.

[48:35] >> This is Bailey's own daughter who just

[48:38] turned 15 herself. He's always making

[48:40] sure I go to bed on time, checking my

[48:42] schoolwork, seeing if I need help with

[48:45] anything. He's the one that wakes me up

[48:47] in the morning, takes me to and from my

[48:50] sports games, always seeing if I ever

[48:53] need help with stuff.

[48:55] >> He coached his daughter's soccer team

[48:57] last spring, part of East Side United,

[49:00] the shirt he was wearing when he came to

[49:02] the house.

[49:02] >> Yeah, we didn't have any issues with

[49:04] them. I just remember him being a a loud

[49:07] coach, you know, just a ex-Marine type.

[49:10] >> Parents and coaches told us he goes by

[49:12] his middle name, Steve, and has a heart

[49:15] of gold. The arrest does not fit with

[49:17] their image of him.

[49:19] >> I wouldn't even believe it was Steve.

[49:21] You know, to be honest, I I would not

[49:23] believe that would be Steve.

[49:24] >> But some neighbors say they're not

[49:26] surprised. seen him uh just with too

[49:29] many young girls around his uh house.

[49:34] >> This neighbor wants to stay anonymous,

[49:36] but says Bailey made him and his family

[49:38] nervous. They felt he was eager to spend

[49:41] time with young girls other than his

[49:43] daughter.

[49:44] >> Uh I didn't like seeing an older man

[49:46] with a young girl and uh being a

[49:51] situation they were in was not just did

[49:54] not look appropriate. We had our own

[49:56] suspicion a long time ago.

[49:59] >> Hi there.

[49:59] >> For Bailey's family, all this is

[50:01] traumatic.

[50:03] >> I don't think he did it.

[50:04] >> His wife, speaking in Korean, says her

[50:07] husband devotes his whole life to his

[50:09] children, a son and daughter. She can't

[50:11] imagine that he did it. But if he did,

[50:14] she says their relationship is over.

[50:17] >> I can understand if he hurts me, but by

[50:19] doing this, he's hurting his children or

[50:26] unbearable thing for her.

[50:28] >> Now, the soccer league says Bailey was a

[50:30] coach for four years and they say he

[50:32] passed many background checks during

[50:34] that time and was certified. The league

[50:36] says here it never received a complaint

[50:38] or saw any sign that his behavior was a

[50:41] problem for their soccer kids. Now, if

[51:08] that's tonight's final cut.

[51:50] >> One of these letters is dangerous

[51:52] because it's the governmentmandated

[51:54] notice of a teen's pregnancy being

[51:56] delivered to an abusive parent. Measure

[51:59] 43 sets up an automatic required

[52:01] notification to parents with no

[52:03] exceptions for rape or even incest. It

[52:06] puts at risk teens in greater danger. No

[52:09] counseling, no protection, just an

[52:11] impersonal and dangerous letter sent in

[52:14] the mail. Measure 43. It's not so simple

[52:17] and it's definitely not safe.

[52:20] >> Rick Wil Coxin is a real Geico customer,

[52:30] >> Yeah, that's right. I was in an

[52:31] accident.

[52:32] >> I got on the phone and called Geico.

[52:34] >> Yeah. Whoa. Hey, how's it going?

[52:37] >> After a few days, I had my repair check.

[52:39] It was fantastic.

[53:00] >> Every car dealer writes ads to make you

[53:02] think they're the best. We do it, too.

[53:04] The difference is that at Broadway

[53:05] Toyota, we talk the talk and we walk the

[53:07] walk. And that's why little old Broadway

[53:09] Toyota at the Rose Quarter consistently

[53:11] sells more Toyotas than the mega dealers

[53:13] do, proving that if you really do have

[53:14] the best prices every day. And if you

[53:17] really do treat every customer like

[53:18] they're the only one on your lot, the

[53:20] word gets around. So Portland, if you're

[53:22] even thinking about buying a Toyota,

[53:24] Broadway is the only way. Just get off

[53:26] at the I5 Rose Quarter exit and head two

[53:28] blocks east.

[53:37] Newspapers call Gulenowski a no-show

[53:42] Ron Saxton will change Oregon with

[53:46] classrooms, a focus on results. He'll

[53:49] hold the line on taxes, cut waste,

[53:51] control spending with leadership, not

[54:15] >> Welcome back everybody. A monster game

[54:17] from Zack Randolph tonight. But was it

[54:19] enough to nip the Clippers to LA we go

[54:21] where Eay Udoka had the team's other

[54:23] double double? Hits an early three.

[54:25] Finishes with 11 points and 10 boards.

[54:28] Jared Jack put up 10 of his 16 in the

[54:31] first quarter alone. Scores there. And

[54:33] sometimes, you know, the ball just

[54:34] bounces your way off a miss. It rolls

[54:36] right off of Cory Mcghetti to Randolph

[54:38] for the easy basket. Randolph with 16 in

[54:40] the half. The baseline jumper here

[54:42] giving the Blazers a 3834 lead. But

[54:45] right before halftime, Shawn Livingston,

[54:47] watch the rebound and then put back in a

[54:49] sea of Blazers. Clippers by six at the

[54:52] break. And then end of the third

[54:53] quarter, they blow it open with a 10-

[54:54] nothing run. Cino Moley scoring inside.

[54:57] Clippers win it 10289 in spite of a game

[55:00] high 35 and 13 rebounds for Randolph.

[55:02] The Blazers now 2-2. is going to be back

[55:04] home to host the Lakers Wednesday night.

[55:06] Hey, the Seahawks doing it up right on

[55:08] Monday Night Football. Backup

[55:10] quarterback Senica Wallace looking for

[55:12] his first NFL win against the Raiders.

[55:14] Has some great receivers. Heck, Deion

[55:16] Branch can even catch a slippery old

[55:18] salmon down at Pike Place Market. So, no

[55:21] surprise in the first quarter when

[55:22] Wallace finds Branch in the end zone for

[55:24] the 22 yd TD and a seven nothing lead.

[55:27] And you know what? That was enough

[55:28] because the defense was stellar. We're

[55:30] talking seven sacks in the first half.

[55:33] Craig Terrell had three of them and they

[55:35] held the Raiders to 185 yards total

[55:37] offense. The Raider D was out there all

[55:39] night. Little frustrated Tyler Brighton

[59:48] >> Heavy rains and gusty winds as well as

[59:50] high seas have put some homes along the

[59:52] Oregon coast in danger. Three homes

[59:55] overlooking Glennon Eden Beach near

[59:57] Lincoln City had to be evacuated today.

[60:00] Jim and Lynn Nelson live in this house

[60:02] year round. They say their house was

[60:04] built, according to a geologist's

[60:06] recommendation, 30 feet back from the

[60:08] edge, but now there are only a few feet

[60:10] left between the home's foundation and

[60:12] the drop off. The Nelson spent today

[60:15] packing up everything they own, and

[60:16] they're staying in a nearby rental home

[60:18] tonight. High seas are expected here

[60:20] along the Oregon coast again tomorrow.

[60:22] Reporting near Lincoln City tonight,

[60:24] Stephanie Krovich, the 11 o'clock news.

[60:26] >> Well, the heavy rains are making driving

[60:28] all across Portland very treacherous,

[60:30] but one of the largest mud puddles we

[60:31] found is right here on Southeast 92nd

[60:33] Avenue, not far from Pal Boulevard. It

[60:35] covers the uh entire roadway. The water

[60:39] is at least a foot and a half deep,

[60:41] covering most of the lanes here on 92nd

[60:44] Avenue. Police had the street barricaded

[60:45] off for a while, but drivers by and

[60:47] large ignored those barricades, driving

[60:49] through anyway. Now, in northeast

[60:51] Portland, homeowners spent the evening

[60:53] cleaning out their storm drains to keep

[60:54] their streets and basements from

[60:56] flooding. Large amounts of leaves were

[60:58] clogging the drains, creating small

[61:00] ponds on almost every street corner.

[61:02] Commuters on bicycles say uh pedaling

[61:04] through those pedals can be scary.

[61:07] >> The worst places are where you can't see

[61:08] the road for the leaves in the water,

[61:09] you know, because you don't know if

[61:10] there's a rock or a stick in there or

[61:11] something.

[61:12] >> Now, tonight, city officials are warning

[61:14] drivers to not try and cross large

[61:16] bodies of water on roadways such as

[61:18] this. They say it can be dangerous and

[61:21] possibly bad for your car. In Southeast

[61:23] Portland tonight, David Wilson, the

[61:24] 11:00lock News.

[61:26] >> Well, people are definitely taking

[61:27] advantage of this free sand pile out

[61:29] here in Beaverton. It'll take you some

[61:30] time, but things are all set up for you.

[61:31] The shovels are even out here. All you

[61:33] have to do is fill up these bags and tie

[61:35] the top. And folks we talked to say it

[61:37] is definitely worth it. Earlier tonight,

[61:38] we ran into Bonnie Conger and her son.

[61:41] Bonnie lives in Beaverton, has been in

[61:42] the same house for 20 years, but just

[61:44] recently has experienced some pretty

[61:46] serious flooding. In the last couple of

[61:48] days, the water has been coming in her

[61:49] daylight basement and moving into the

[61:51] family room and ruining the carpet. She

[61:54] hopes the sandbags will help hold off

[61:56] the water for at least a couple more

[61:57] days. Reporting in Beaverton tonight,

[61:59] Kevin Kawari, the 11:00 news.

[62:01] >> And Mark Nelson will have your first

[62:02] live local forecast in just a moment.

[62:04] But right now, KPTV's Deborah Gil joins

[62:06] us live at 11 right now to tell us

[62:07] what's new. Deborah,

[62:08] >> police here in Kaiser are looking for

[62:10] the vandals who've caused thousands of

[62:12] dollars of damage in this neighborhood.

[62:14] Take a look. Windows like this busted

[62:16] out of two dozen cars. The victims are

[62:19] either covering it up like you see here

[62:21] are shelling out big bucks to try to

[62:23] keep the rain from causing even more

[62:24] damage. Tonight, people in this Kaiser

[62:27] neighborhood are trying to figure out

[62:29] how to deal with the vandalism that's

[62:31] costing them a lot of money.

[62:33] >> They've done a lot of damage to a lot of

[62:35] people, and this isn't the right weather

[62:37] to have blast busted out on your car.

[62:39] Police believe between 3 and 6 Sunday

[62:42] morning, someone traveled through this

[62:44] neighborhood with some sort of blunt

[62:46] object and smashed out car windshields

[62:48] and rear windows.

[62:50] >> He got hit and the neighbor's car got

[62:53] hit here and a few around the corner

[62:55] back here. And sometime during the night

[62:58] last night, I guess we got had a return

[63:01] trip because my car got hit.

[63:03] >> Rick says his car won't be easy to fix.

[63:06] This is really really getting

[63:08] irritating. Uh it's very costly. You

[63:11] know, it's hard to replace a piece of

[63:12] glass on a car. You know, it's an older

[63:14] vintage car.

[63:15] >> Not far away, Trey Dean's newer car is

[63:18] covered tonight as well. He can't afford

[63:20] to fix it right away.

[63:22] >> It's tragedy. I mean, that's not cheap

[63:24] to replace.

[63:25] >> Police say so far they've gotten 23

[63:27] reports of vandalism. They believe the

[63:29] same people are responsible for all of

[63:31] the damage, but don't yet have any

[63:33] leads.

[63:34] >> It's horrible.

[63:36] You know, I mean, what why why what's

[63:39] the point of doing something like that?

[63:40] >> But Trey fears it's someone who lives

[63:42] nearby.

[63:43] >> It had to be someone from the

[63:45] neighborhood. Why else were they here,

[63:46] you know? So, it's just why do that to

[63:49] your own people?

[63:51] >> Back out live, police are offering a

[63:53] $500 reward for information leading to

[63:56] an arrest and a conviction. Anyone with

[63:58] information is urged to call Kaiser

[64:00] police. Reporting live tonight in

[64:01] Kaiser, Deborah Gild, the 11:00 news.

[64:08] Now, we want to bring you the top three

[64:10] stories from around the nation tonight.

[64:11] A fired Colorado reverend can be seen in

[64:14] a documentary preaching against

[64:16] homosexuality. The New Life Church fired

[64:18] Ted Haggard because he's at the center

[64:20] of a gay sex scandal. In the documentary

[64:23] Jesus Camp, he slams the homosexual

[64:25] community. Haggard says he didn't get a

[64:27] fair shake in the movie and that the

[64:28] filmmakers only used the parts of his

[64:30] interview where he quote played with

[64:32] negative stereotypes. Haggard is accused

[64:34] of hiring a gay prostitute and using

[64:36] drugs. A former Texas prosecutor killed

[64:39] himself over the weekend minutes before

[64:41] cops could arrest him for trying to have

[64:43] sex with a teen. Police went to the home

[64:45] of Louiswis Bill Conrad Jr. yesterday to

[64:47] make that bust. And as they went in,

[64:49] they heard a gunshot. Cops say Conrad

[64:51] recently tried to hook up with a

[64:53] 13-year-old for sex, but that teen was

[64:55] actually a detective. And it's already

[64:58] election day on the east coast and

[64:59] Democrats deny they're losing their edge

[65:01] in an effort to take control of

[65:02] Congress. Half a dozen incumbent Senate

[65:05] Republicans are facing tough reelection

[65:07] bids. Democrats need six seats to take

[65:09] control of the Senate. Strategists in

[65:11] both parties expect Democrats to pick up

[65:12] seats in both chambers of Congress

[65:14] tomorrow.

[65:18] The top three international headlines

[65:20] take us first to Baghdad tonight, where

[65:22] thousands of Saddam Hussein's bath party

[65:23] members could get their jobs back if

[65:25] Iraq's parliament approves a proposed

[65:27] new law. The law are in line with the

[65:29] prime minister's national reconciliation

[65:32] plan aimed at ending violence. The news

[65:34] about Saddam's supporters getting their

[65:36] jobs back comes just a day after a judge

[65:38] sentenced Saddam to death by hanging. In

[65:41] Cuba, there are signs that Fidel Castro

[65:42] may not be getting better as quickly as

[65:44] expected. The country's foreign minister

[65:46] is now backing off his prediction that

[65:48] Castro will return to power by early

[65:50] December. Castro has been recovering

[65:52] from intestinal surgery. He handed over

[65:54] power to his brother temporarily. There

[65:57] is a major warning in Kiwi country

[65:59] tonight. 100 icebergs are now floating

[66:01] south of New Zealand, posing a danger to

[66:02] a major ocean shipping lane. The largest

[66:05] of those icebergs is roughly a mile long

[66:08] and more than 400 ft high. Experts think

[66:11] the icebergs drifted north from

[66:13] Antarctica, but should melt as they move

[66:15] toward New Zealand's South Island.

[66:22] >> Now to the top three stories from the

[66:23] Northwest. People in Seattle are even

[66:25] wetter than we are tonight, if you can

[66:27] believe that. Take a look at this. The

[66:28] Snomish County Sheriff's Office had used

[66:31] a helicopter to rescue some people

[66:33] stranded on a sandbar. Governor

[66:35] Christine Gregoire has declared a state

[66:36] of emergency in 18 counties because of

[66:39] flooding, including Clark and Cow

[66:42] counties. The extra water is posing

[66:44] driving hazards and forcing rivers into

[66:46] the streets. More rain is expected

[66:48] overnight. If you plan to visit the

[66:50] Emerald City, you might want to make the

[66:52] trip around Christmas time. That's when

[66:53] Seattle's mayor expects the city's

[66:55] Montreal to be up and running. Crews are

[66:57] testing the two Montreal trains for

[66:58] reliability after some problems in

[67:00] August. The city shut down the Montreal

[67:02] four times in the past two years. The

[67:04] operator has asked the city council for

[67:06] $5 million to upgrade the 44y old

[67:09] Montreal. An Idaho state senator running

[67:12] for reelection is in the news, but for

[67:14] the wrong reasons. His sons are in

[67:16] trouble. Accused of vandalizing two

[67:18] American flags dedicated to soldiers

[67:20] killed in Iraq. Boise police say the

[67:22] pair damaged the flags and flag poles on

[67:25] the grounds of the Idaho state capital.

[67:26] The senator thinks his sons are

[67:28] innocent. Now, Portland's first complete

[67:31] forecast at 11 from your first live

[67:34] local weather team.

[67:36] >> Now, that was a rough weather day out

[67:38] there today. Downpours all day long.

[67:40] Felt like we were in Hawaii with the

[67:41] downpours and warm temperatures. And

[67:44] we've got a little bit more to come. I

[67:45] think this is going to continue these

[67:46] downpours and the warm temperatures

[67:48] until just about right around the

[67:49] morning commute, then things will die

[67:51] down. That's a big weather story

[67:52] tonight. Of course, live radar shows

[67:54] lots of yellow. That's indicating the

[67:55] heavier areas of rainfall. 10:00 we had

[67:57] quite a bit here in Portland. That

[67:58] shifted a little bit down to the south

[68:00] though. You folks in Salem and Kaiser

[68:02] really getting hammered right now,

[68:03] especially kind of right across the

[68:04] middle of the Salem metro area. But back

[68:07] here in Portland, yeah, we still have

[68:08] some rain. It's not quite as heavy. Last

[68:10] hour, we could barely see the other side

[68:12] of the river. It was coming down so

[68:13] hard, but that's a river camera. Now,

[68:15] how much has it rained? A heck of a lot.

[68:17] 3 in here in Portland. I just did some

[68:19] quick calculations on the calculator. I

[68:21] think we've had just about all of our

[68:22] normal November rainfall now uh within

[68:24] the last week. So, the first seven days

[68:26] we will have had all of our rainfall.

[68:28] 3.36 ines in Vancouver. These are since

[68:30] 400 p.m. last night up until 10 p.m. You

[68:32] can add about 1500s of an inch to most

[68:34] of these in the last hour. Tapered off

[68:36] just a bit. A little lighter down in

[68:38] Aurora. The rain kind of slid down from

[68:39] the north. So areas to the north had

[68:41] quite a bit more rain earlier today. But

[68:43] look at these totals. 4 in at Kelso, 3

[68:45] in at Olympia, 4 in at Atoria. What you

[68:48] don't see here, heavy amounts in the

[68:50] Cascades and the coast ranges. There are

[68:51] spots that had 10 to 15 in since last

[68:54] Thursday. Then of course we had the warm

[68:56] air with it. 69 at Salem today. 78 at

[68:58] Hermiston without the rain. It got nice

[69:00] and warm. So the flooding Lewis River

[69:02] and Kowletz River kind of minor flood

[69:04] warnings for now. Major flooding about

[69:06] to occur on the Nalum already occurring

[69:08] on the Wilson and the Tras rivers of

[69:10] Tieuk and the Naka and Celelet River on

[69:12] the central Oregon coast. I think we'll

[69:13] add a whole bunch of rivers to these

[69:15] rivers as we go into tomorrow morning.

[69:17] Now it's kind of like a fire hose here.

[69:19] Here's the northwest. All the

[69:20] subtropical moisture coming up out of

[69:22] the tropics. Actually, there is cold air

[69:24] back in here that shifts in beginning

[69:26] tomorrow afternoon. Before that time, we

[69:28] have more heavy rain up until, as I

[69:30] mentioned, about the morning commute.

[69:31] And then this cold front drops through.

[69:33] And you notice the steady rainfall here

[69:34] shifts off to the south by tomorrow

[69:36] night. Wednesday, just kind of a quiet,

[69:38] cool, showery day. High temperatures

[69:40] around 50. And a cooler weather system

[69:42] comes in with snow for the mountains

[69:43] coming up later Wednesday night. So,

[69:45] heavy rain and wind until daybreak.

[69:46] Another one to two inches in the western

[69:48] valleys. Widespread moderate flooding I

[69:50] think is a story for tomorrow. So, no

[69:52] big huge problems here in the metro

[69:54] area, but I think the coast is a

[69:56] different story. Then a lighter and

[69:57] colder rain for the rest of the week.

[69:59] And this is the big news. Snow pack

[70:00] begins to build in the Cascades. After

[70:02] tomorrow, I think snow level stay below

[70:04] 5,000 ft all the way through the 7-day

[70:06] forecast. So, that's good news for

[70:07] skiers. 70 uh 62 at Newport tomorrow.

[70:10] High wind warning just about cancelled

[70:11] now as the winds start to die down.

[70:13] Upper 50s at the in the valley tomorrow.

[70:15] What really happens overnight tonight is

[70:17] temperatures stay near 60, then we drop

[70:18] during the daytime. So these lows and

[70:20] highs a little sketchy here. Basically

[70:22] we fall off slowly during the day

[70:24] tomorrow. Look at Timberline. 50

[70:25] tonight, 28 by late tomorrow afternoon.

[70:27] As that snow level does fall to pass

[70:29] elevation tomorrow night. Tomorrow

[70:31] morning fine, but not tomorrow night.

[70:32] Portland tomorrow, rain to showers,

[70:34] cooler tomorrow. Notice the high

[70:35] probably right around midnight. It'll

[70:37] cool off by 7 a.m. to
