[2:09] number one and if you can read it all

[2:19] mercies of the Lord

[2:22] forever with my mouth will I make known

[2:26] Thy Faithfulness to all generations

[2:30] we ought to do that it's a I will

[2:33] statement today let me encourage you to

[2:36] talk about the faithfulness of God to

[2:39] everybody he came to this earth to be

[2:42] born to die for you and I so we're going

[2:45] to open our service with a word of

[2:47] prayer this morning and then right after

[3:01] Lord we thank you for today and for the

[3:02] opportunity to come together as a church

[3:04] to praise you in song and to worship you

[3:08] and to hear your word preached Lord we

[3:15] focusing on you Lord bless it all for

[3:16] your honor and glory and allow you to

[13:23] know that your baby boy would one day

[13:35] know that your bab boy would save our

[13:43] daughters did you

[13:46] know that your baby boy has come to make

[14:01] will soon deliver

[16:31] again we want to express to you a Merry

[16:32] Christmas this morning and many times as

[16:35] a pastor you come to the Sunday before

[16:38] Christmas and you traditionally preach a

[16:42] message that is the Christmas story

[16:46] Message God wouldn't let me do that this

[16:48] year and so we're going to look at a

[16:52] passage of scripture that is inv

[16:54] involved with

[16:57] that but I've never preached on

[17:00] Christmas the Sunday before Christmas

[17:02] from this

[17:04] passage earlier this month my wife and I

[17:07] were talking one day and she had shared

[17:09] with me something that the Lord had

[17:10] shown her during her devotion

[17:12] time and I listened and I thought that's

[17:16] interesting and I began to do some

[17:18] studying on it and thinking about it

[17:20] more and dwelling on it and God wouldn't

[17:21] let me let go of it so if you have your

[17:24] Bibles this morning we're going to go to

[17:26] the Book of Luke we're going to go to

[17:28] chapter one one of Luke and if you're

[17:31] able would you please stand in honor the

[17:32] word of God I will warn you it's a long

[17:35] lengthy passage this morning that we're

[17:37] going to

[17:38] read so if you get tired along the way I

[17:42] understand Luke chapter 1 verse number

[17:45] five we're going to read down through

[17:47] verse number

[17:48] 38 there was in the days of Herod the

[17:51] King of Judea a certain priest named

[17:54] Zacharias the courts of abah his wife

[17:57] was of the daughters of Aon and her name

[17:59] was

[18:00] Elizabeth and they were both righteous

[18:02] before God walking in all the

[18:04] Commandments and ordinance of the of the

[18:06] Lord

[18:07] blameless they had no child because that

[18:10] Elizabeth was Barren they both were now

[18:13] well stricken in years it came to pass

[18:16] that while he executed the priest's

[18:18] office before God in the order of his

[18:20] course according to the custom of the

[18:22] priest office his lot was to burn

[18:25] incense when he went into the Temple of

[18:27] the Lord the whole multitude of the

[18:30] people were praying at the time of

[18:33] incense there appeared unto him an angel

[18:35] of the Lord standing on the right side

[18:37] of the altar of

[18:38] incense when Zacharias saw him he was

[18:42] troubled fear fell upon him the angel

[18:46] said unto him fear not Zacharias for thy

[18:49] prayer is heard thy wife Elizabeth shall

[18:51] bear thee a son Thou shalt call his name

[18:54] John and thou shalt have joy and

[18:58] gladness

[18:59] and many shall rejoice at his birth for

[19:03] he shall be great in the sight of the

[19:04] Lord and shall drink neither wine nor

[19:07] strong drink and he shall be filled with

[19:09] the Holy Ghost even from his mother's

[19:11] womb and many of the children of Israel

[19:13] shall he turn to the Lord their God he

[19:16] shall go before him in the spirit and

[19:18] power of Elias to turn the hearts of the

[19:21] fathers to the children and the

[19:24] disobedient to the wisdom of the just to

[19:27] make ready a people

[19:29] prepared for the Lord that's a pretty

[19:31] exciting

[19:33] statement Zachariah said un the angel

[19:36] whereby shall I know this for I am an

[19:39] old man and my wife well stricken in

[19:42] years the angel answering said unto him

[19:45] I am Gabriel that stand in the presence

[19:47] of God and am sent to speak unto thee

[19:51] and to show thee Glad

[19:53] Tidings behold Thou shalt be dumb and

[19:57] not be able to speak until the day that

[19:59] these things shall be performed because

[20:02] thou believest not my words which shall

[20:05] be fulfilled in their season the people

[20:09] waited for Zacharias and marveled that

[20:10] he carried so long in the temple and

[20:13] when he came out he could not speak unto

[20:15] them and they perceived that he had seen

[20:17] a vision in the temple for he beckoned

[20:19] unto them and remained

[20:21] speechless came to pass as soon as the

[20:23] days of his ministration were

[20:24] accomplished he departed to his own

[20:26] house and after those days his wife

[20:28] Elizabeth conceived and hid herself five

[20:30] months saying thus hath the Lord dealt

[20:33] with me the days where he looked onto me

[20:36] to take away my reproach from among men

[20:39] in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was

[20:41] sent from God into the city of Galilee

[20:43] named Nazareth to a virgin ESP spouse to

[20:46] a man whose name was Joseph of the House

[20:48] of David the virgin's name was Mary the

[20:51] angel came in unto her said hail Thou

[20:54] Art highly favored the Lord is with thee

[20:56] blessed art thou among women and when

[20:58] she saw him she was troubled at his

[21:01] saying and cast in her mind what manner

[21:03] of salutation this should be the angel

[21:06] said unto her fear not Mary for thou

[21:09] Hast found favor with God behold Thou

[21:11] shalt conceive in thy womb and bring

[21:13] forth the son and shalt call his name

[21:16] Jesus he shall be great and shall be

[21:19] called the son of the highest and the

[21:21] Lord God shall give unto him the Throne

[21:23] of his father David he shall reign over

[21:25] the house of Jacob forever and of his

[21:27] kingdom there shall be no end then said

[21:30] Mary unto the angel how shall this be

[21:33] seeing I know not a man the angel

[21:36] answered and said unto her the Holy

[21:37] Ghost shall come upon thee the power of

[21:39] the highest shall overshadow thee

[21:41] therefore also that Holy thing which

[21:43] shall be born of thee shall be called

[21:45] The Son of God Behold thy cousin

[21:48] Elizabeth she hath also conceived a son

[21:50] in her old age this is the sixth month

[21:53] with her who was called Baron for with

[21:55] God nothing shall be imp possible and

[22:00] Mary said behold the handmade of the

[22:01] Lord be it unto me according to Thy word

[22:05] and the angel departed from her two

[22:08] different

[22:10] people two different

[22:13] responses to the same

[22:15] God should pay attention to the word of

[22:18] God this morning and pray that God will

[22:19] help us this morning let's go Lord in

[22:21] prayer heav father Lord I Thank you for

[22:23] the opportunity to preach your word this

[22:25] morning Lord I pray if you would please

[22:27] cleanse me of sin and empty me of myself

[22:30] that I might get out of the way this

[22:31] morning and your word may go forth Lord

[22:34] I pray that you'd speak to our hearts

[22:35] today Lord if someone here today does

[22:38] not know you as Savior May today be

[22:40] their day of

[22:42] salvation Lord if someone came in

[22:44] discouraged may they leave encouraged

[22:46] today in your name I pray amen thank you

[22:49] for standing you may be

[22:56] seated Herod the king

[22:59] very Wicked

[23:00] man we know this from scripture when

[23:03] Jesus is born he sends the wise men to

[23:06] Bethlehem and once the wise men are

[23:10] warned of God not to return they go

[23:12] another Direction Herod sends his

[23:14] soldiers and kills all the male infants

[23:17] two years old and younger doesn't sound

[23:20] like a very nice guy killed some of his

[23:23] own family got rid of his favorite wife

[23:26] because she made him mad one day killed

[23:27] her

[23:29] and then in that same verse that we have

[23:31] this description about Herod there's

[23:34] another guy listed named

[23:36] Zacharias and he's of the course of abah

[23:39] and his wife was one of the daughters of

[23:41] Aaron her name's Elizabeth now I want

[23:44] you to look at verse

[23:45] six and they were both righteous before

[23:50] God these are good people say well there

[23:54] are no good people you're right these

[23:55] are people who are living their faith

[23:57] out through their works

[23:59] and they are people that are bringing

[24:00] honor and glory to God they they're

[24:03] righteous before the Lord they're doing

[24:05] that which the Lord has called them to

[24:07] do he's a priest he's he's a righteous

[24:11] person not only are they righteous It

[24:14] also says they are walking in all the

[24:17] Commandments and the ordinances of the

[24:19] Lord

[24:21] blameless now they're not sinless but

[24:24] they're living a life where they're

[24:25] sinning

[24:26] less and so Z araras and Elizabeth are

[24:29] two people that have some character to

[24:32] them these these are not people that

[24:34] like Herod who are involved in Gross

[24:36] wickedness these are people that had

[24:38] some character to them and we find them

[24:41] here in a place that it says in verse

[24:44] seven and they had no child because

[24:47] Elizabeth was Barren and they were both

[24:50] now well stricken in years and so

[24:53] they've gotten

[24:54] older and they they haven't had a child

[24:56] in the culture of the day the families

[24:59] that were childless many times it was

[25:01] thought not that God said do it but the

[25:05] culture thought God was punishing people

[25:08] by giving them no

[25:09] children that's not how God

[25:12] works but that's what the culture of the

[25:15] Jewish Day

[25:16] thought by the way just because the

[25:18] culture thinks it's that way doesn't

[25:20] mean it's that way even

[25:23] today so but they they they had this

[25:26] this mockery of people people so they

[25:29] they thought of Elizabeth Zar they

[25:30] thought some would think that inwardly

[25:33] there there's something wrong there or

[25:35] else God would have given them a child

[25:38] but there some must be something wrong

[25:39] there verse eight it came to pass that

[25:42] while he executed the priest's office

[25:44] before God in the order of his courts

[25:46] according to the custom of the priest's

[25:48] office his lot was to burn incense when

[25:50] he went into the Temple of the Lord now

[25:52] during this time frame there's eight

[25:54] different groups of priests that

[25:55] Minister and they're on a rotational

[25:57] cycle and it's the course that Zacharias

[26:00] is serving it's his his groups turn to

[26:03] serve in the temple and they would go

[26:04] and they would serve for a period of

[26:06] time and then they'd return back to

[26:08] their homes and so Zacharias is on that

[26:11] cycle it's his job to go into the holy

[26:13] place and after those they would go in

[26:16] with two other priests and they would

[26:18] bring the coals in and they' fire up the

[26:20] things and then he would take the

[26:21] incense and he put it on the altar of

[26:23] incense after he did the altar of

[26:25] incense he would back his way out of the

[26:27] Holy place place and he'd enter into the

[26:30] regular part of the Temple Court when he

[26:32] come to the temple Court he'd stand

[26:33] before the congregation and he'd

[26:35] Proclaim what had just done and he talk

[26:38] about the blessing and there was a

[26:40] special prayer of benediction that he

[26:42] would pray over the nation on that day

[26:46] and so when he comes out and he can't

[26:49] speak everybody's looking at him

[26:54] like what's going on why can't you talk

[26:57] and we'll get into that here in just a

[27:00] moment so it he goes into the altar to

[27:02] commit it this now we're we're in we're

[27:04] in Luke and the reading the

[27:06] chronologically here this is after the

[27:09] 400 years of Silence between Malachi and

[27:12] the Book of Matthew where there's been

[27:14] no open vision from the Lord there's

[27:16] been no voice of the Lord so for 400

[27:18] years now God has not sent an angel God

[27:21] has not sent a prophet God has not done

[27:23] any of that Zacharias is in the

[27:26] temple and all the

[27:30] in the Holy place an angel of the Lord

[27:32] appeared now you would think someone

[27:35] like Zacharias a priest who knows what's

[27:37] supposed to happen would be

[27:39] excited that God showed

[27:42] up and God had something to say to the

[27:45] nation of Israel and he he sees this

[27:47] Angel and it's Bible says that he is

[27:49] fearful he's troubled and fear fell upon

[27:52] him and uh if if you read the early

[27:55] gospels you'll find out that Gabriel's

[27:57] favorite phrase to say is fear not

[28:00] almost every time he comes in contact

[28:02] with people he says fear not fear not

[28:05] fear not that's kind of his saying so

[28:07] evidently either seeing Gabriel brings

[28:10] fear to

[28:12] people I was going to tell a joke there

[28:14] but I'll

[28:17] refrain but we find the angel said unto

[28:20] him fear not Zacharias I want you to

[28:23] notice this next part for thy prayer is

[28:28] is

[28:30] heard not your prayer was heard your

[28:36] prayer is heard in other words he's been

[28:42] praying even in his old age he believes

[28:46] God can even in his old age he still has

[28:50] faith in God and he's been praying the

[28:53] angel says your prayer has been heard is

[28:57] heard

[28:58] then he says thy wife Elizabeth shall

[29:00] bear thee a son and thou shalt call his

[29:02] name

[29:03] John what he's been praying for he's

[29:06] going to get well

[29:08] Hallelujah that'd be exciting you ever

[29:11] prayed for something and you got

[29:13] it weren't you a little bit excited

[29:15] about getting what you prayed

[29:18] for then it goes on and he says and thou

[29:21] shalt have

[29:22] joy and

[29:24] gladness and many shall rejoice at his

[29:28] birth and then he describes the ministry

[29:31] here that John the Baptist is going to

[29:34] do about turning the hearts of the

[29:37] children to the Lord the hearts of the

[29:39] fathers toward the children and after

[29:41] all that exciting news look at Verse

[29:44] 18 Zacharias said un the angel whereby

[29:48] shall I know

[29:50] this for I'm an old man and my wife well

[29:54] stricken in years he said how am I going

[29:55] to know this in other words this what he

[29:57] said said Give Me A

[30:01] Sign I will believe it when I see it

[30:07] I'll believe it when I see it give me a

[30:09] sign the nation of Israel struggled

[30:11] throughout the time of Christ with

[30:12] needing

[30:14] signs so they asked for a sign Give Me A

[30:17] Sign and I'll believe

[30:19] it now I want you to think about that

[30:24] statement he told the angel of the Lord

[30:29] in the Holy

[30:31] Temple who

[30:33] appeared after knowing for 400 years

[30:36] there's been

[30:37] nobody give me a

[30:41] sign uh

[30:44] Zacharias you need another

[30:48] one now you have to read the Bible and

[30:52] understand that sometimes God has a

[30:54] sense of

[30:55] humor look what Gab AB 's response

[31:02] angel answering said unto him I am

[31:07] Gabriel can't you hear it in his

[31:10] voice I am

[31:27] to speak unto theee and to show thee

[31:40] still don't

[31:43] believe you still don't

[31:46] believe look what happens verse 20

[31:49] behold Thou shalt be dumb and not be

[31:51] able to speak until the day that these

[31:54] things shall be

[31:56] performed why because thou believest not

[32:01] my

[32:03] words which shall be fulfilled in their

[32:06] season now Angel Gabriel is the

[32:10] messenger Angel who's delivering to

[32:13] Zacharias what the Lord

[32:20] says Zacharias who's a

[32:23] priest who knows the Old Testament pude

[32:28] probably by

[32:30] memory knows portions of scripture knows

[32:35] prophecy you don't

[32:37] believe

[32:41] wow and so he says you're not going to

[32:43] be able to

[32:45] speak and the people waited verse 21 for

[32:47] Zacharias and marveled that he carried

[32:49] so long in the

[32:51] temple he said show me a

[32:53] sign now again I want to remind you it's

[32:57] been 400 years since God showed a sign

[32:59] to

[33:01] anybody but now Zacharias is the guy to

[33:05] break the 400 years of Silence God chose

[33:08] him to send an angel to him

[33:12] first before Gabriel appeared to Mary

[33:16] Gabriel appeared to

[33:18] Zacharias the righteous man the servant

[33:21] of the

[33:22] Lord and he still didn't believe he said

[33:25] show me a sign and I can believe

[33:30] so he said you're not going to be able

[33:31] to speak so the people waited what's

[33:34] taking Zachariah so long don't take that

[33:36] long to light the

[33:37] incense he he's past schedule you know

[33:40] that they knew how long they've seen

[33:41] Zacharias do this before it's not his

[33:43] first time they know he normally goes in

[33:46] he does his thing he comes out he walks

[33:48] out on the balcony and then he speaks to

[33:50] all the people what's taking him so

[33:53] long Bible says that when he came out

[33:58] he could not speak unto them and they

[34:01] perceived that he had seen a vision in

[34:02] the temple for he beckoned unto them and

[34:04] remained speechless I want you to think

[34:06] about that here he comes

[34:21] out he's seen

[34:24] something they perceived that he had

[34:25] seen a vision

[34:29] he finishes out his time of ministry he

[34:32] goes home to his wife she

[34:36] conceives we find that she hides away

[34:40] for a period of five months saying verse

[34:43] 25 thus sayith the Lord dealt with me in

[34:45] the days wherein he looked on me to take

[34:47] away my reproach among

[34:52] men so five months goes by she's she's

[34:56] kind of hiding away from every

[34:59] body she's in her in her home hiding

[35:03] away six month Gabriel appears to

[35:08] Mary now I don't have time to go through

[35:11] the whole text this morning highlight a

[35:14] few things Mary she's a righteous

[35:17] person just like Zacharias and Elizabeth

[35:20] Mary's doing right she's a spouse to

[35:22] Joseph but she's still a virgin she's

[35:24] doing right Bible says she's highly

[35:26] favored Mary serving the

[35:29] lord Mary just like Zacharias is a

[35:33] righteous person doing right serving the

[35:34] lord and then the angel

[35:37] appeared now let's see what happens the

[35:40] angel came in unto her and said hell

[35:41] Thou Art highly favored the Lord is with

[35:43] thee blessed art thou among women and

[35:45] when she saw him she was troubled at his

[35:47] saying and cast in her mind what manner

[35:49] of salutation this should be an angel

[35:51] said unto her his favorite words fear

[35:53] not here he goes again fear not Mary for

[35:58] thou Hast found favor with God and

[35:59] behold Thou shalt conceive in thy womb

[36:01] and shallal bring forth a son Thou shalt

[36:17] Mary then said Mary unto the angel how

[36:34] two Zacharias asked for a sign Mary said

[36:39] I don't know how it's going to happen

[36:40] but I believe

[36:41] it how shall this be saying I know this

[36:45] is how it normally works how's it going

[36:46] to happen if it's not

[36:49] that and the angel explains to her

[36:51] what's going to happen so Mary has a

[36:54] question and her question is this I

[36:56] believe but but

[37:00] how and then the angel explains to her

[37:02] the Holy Ghost shall come upon thee

[37:04] power the highest shall overshadow thee

[37:06] therefore also that Holy thing which

[37:08] shall be born of thee shall be called

[37:09] The Son of God and on top of that verse

[37:13] 36 Behold thy cousin Elizabeth she also

[37:15] had conceived a son in her old age the

[40:43] God but I am sensitive to God's

[40:50] in your Christian life you don't have to

[40:52] pray

[40:55] for there are some things in your

[40:57] Christian life you don't have to ask

[40:58] God's permission

[41:00] for well should I or should I not read

[41:02] my Bible today he kind of already

[41:05] defined that for you it's not up for

[41:09] debate should I or should I not

[41:13] pray he kind of already explained in his

[41:16] word how he feels about

[41:18] that should I or should I not live my

[41:21] life by faith in God well you already

[41:24] answered the question

[41:28] so what do we

[43:21] you but many of us are the park

[46:15] whose wife is a daughter of Aaron who's

[46:18] serving the lord on a regular basis has

[46:20] been praying for

[46:22] years can struggle with faith and

[46:25] believing

[46:27] I believe in 2024 soon to be 2025 God's

[46:30] people can still

[46:33] struggle living by faith and

[46:37] believing how many of you believe that

[46:40] Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary say

[46:43] Amen how many of you believe that he

[46:45] lived a sinless life amen we believe it

[46:50] how many of you believe that Jesus went

[46:52] and died on the cross how know you

[46:54] believe that he rose again the third day

[46:57] how many you believe that he sits at the

[46:59] right hand of the father making

[47:00] intercession for us say

[47:02] Amen why don't we use that in our

[47:05] daytoday

[47:06] operation none of you were there when

[47:09] Jesus was born none of you were there

[47:11] the day that he lived his sinless life

[47:13] those years that he lived his sin life

[47:14] none of you were there on the day that

[47:40] sign instead of hands off trusting in

[47:45] Lord get your life and year for God in

[47:57] yeah I believe it at Christmas time

[47:59] but could he really save

[48:03] me I mean all the things that I've

[48:07] done all the things that I still

[48:11] do could he save

[48:32] May I sat on the floor of the auditorium

[48:39] wheelchair and preached from Luke 1

[48:45] 37 after weeks and months of not being

[48:49] able to stand in a

[48:55] walk but with God nothing shall be

[49:00] impossible see the Bible tells us that

[49:02] God works in miraculous ways and for

[49:05] with God nothing shall be impossible the

[49:07] faith of God and how he works in our

[49:10] life motivates us to live by

[49:13] faith every

[49:16] day as a testimony to God I can stand

[49:18] here today and say God is able to do

[49:20] exceeding abundantly above all that we

[49:22] could ask or

[49:24] think so what could God do in 2025

[49:28] if you would let him increase your

[49:33] faith The Measure of Faith God wants to

[49:36] work in your life he wants to increase

[49:38] it next year starts

[56:23] discipleship class if you have any

[56:27] wife and so there is a signup sheet

[56:35] head will be co-teaching that
