[0:00] News and information leader.
[0:04] >> Bill Clinton, Hollywood reacts. Next ET.
[0:08] >> Slow motion misery. Relentless Francis
[0:10] pounds Florida engulfing and drenching
[0:13] the state. Riding it out, stories of
[0:16] survival from the people who wouldn't
[0:18] leave. An Iraqi riddle, has a top Saddam
[0:21] deputy been captured or not? And
[0:24] heartfelt wishes for former President
[0:26] Clinton as his surgery nears.
[0:33] >> This is the CBS Evening News.
[0:38] With John Roberts.
[0:41] >> Good evening. John Roberts is off
[0:43] tonight. I'm Mika Brzezinski. The
[0:45] Sunshine State hasn't seen any for days
[0:47] now and it's beginning to take its toll
[0:50] with scattered flooding, widespread
[0:51] power outages and one storm related
[0:54] death so far. Hurricane Francis has
[0:56] weakened to a tropical storm but heavy
[0:59] rains continue as it drifts over the
[1:01] state. CBS News correspondents are in
[1:03] position throughout Florida tonight. We
[1:05] begin our reports with Mark Strassmann
[1:07] in Vero Beach. Good evening, Mark.
[1:11] >> Good evening, Mika. Tonight much of
[1:13] Florida is knee-deep in misery. Flood
[1:15] water is a major ongoing worry. There's
[1:18] debris everywhere you look and tonight
[1:20] scores of Floridians will have to
[1:22] rebuild.
[1:24] >> Oh, there's the mattress.
[1:26] >> In Daytona Beach, mattresses flew like
[1:29] leaves from hotel windows as Hurricane
[1:31] Francis roared ashore with Old Testament
[1:34] fury. Its 90-mph winds and sheets of
[1:37] rain pounded Florida's East Coast
[1:40] toppling trees and power lines and
[1:42] leaving 4 million Floridians without
[1:45] power.
[1:47] Please be careful. This hotel room in
[1:49] West Palm Beach was shredded, blown
[1:51] apart. Up and do
