[0:00] The officer who shot back first on Fox.
[0:04] >> Good evening, I'm Curt Ledllo. It was a
[0:06] routine police call. In fact, one of the
[0:08] most common, but it nearly turned
[0:10] deadly. Tonight, police say a check
[0:12] fraud arrest turned into a shootout. The
[0:14] shots rang out on Southeast Stark at
[0:16] 119th just before noon today. KPTV's
[0:19] Ryan Gil is still live on the scene.
[0:21] Ryan?
[0:21] >> Well, Kurt, everyone says this happened
[0:23] so fast with little warning. Take a
[0:25] look. Some of the evidence left behind
[0:26] by police. This is in fact a bullet hole
[0:29] that someone would have fired today.
[0:30] What is so amazing here is that there
[0:32] was a police car parked right here just
[0:34] beyond it. An actual uniform police
[0:36] officer. The suspect would have had to
[0:38] walk past both of them before going
[0:40] inside the store only to find another
[0:42] uniform police officer dealing with one
[0:45] check fraud case. Soon there would be
[0:47] two. Only this time, the suspect wasn't
[0:49] going without a fight.
[0:54] Witnesses rushing to the scene amazed at
[0:57] their own eyes. A gunfight spilling into
[1:00] the street.
[1:01] >> It just instant instantaneous gunfire
[1:03] just really really fast going on. My
[1:06] god, it's a police officer.
[1:08] >> Most of the gunshots coming from the gun
[1:10] of 31-year-old George Weissman, a police
[1:12] officer on the force for 6 years.
[1:15] >> See, they pulled the police officer out
[1:17] and he was pulling off his shirt and
[1:19] stuff. and see where the blood was
[1:21] running down and this and that and uh oh
[1:23] my god.
[1:24] >> Officer Weissman and his partner had
[1:26] been dispatched to the Western Union on
[1:28] Southeast Stark in 11
