[0:02] Bill Bradley cancels campaign stops for
[0:04] heart treatment. Also tonight, an
[0:07] American scientist is accused of
[0:09] mishandling nuclear weapons designs,
[0:12] though no one can prove that's how China
[0:15] got them. It'll be Christmas in Florida
[0:17] for a 6-year-old Cuban refugee as
[0:19] lawyers appeal to block his father's
[0:21] claim. And another day, another record.
[0:25] What's behind the tech tear on the
[0:27] red-hot NASDAQ market?
[0:32] This is the CBS Evening News
[0:36] with Dan Rather reporting from CBS News
[0:39] headquarters in New York.
[0:41] >> Good evening. There's late breaking news
[0:43] tonight in the presidential campaign.
[0:45] Democratic presidential hopeful Bill
[0:46] Bradley has interrupted a West Coast
[0:48] campaign swing and is getting hospital
[0:51] treatment for what's called an irregular
[0:53] heartbeat. Bradley is 56. Staffers say
[0:57] his cardiologist calls the condition,
[0:59] and I quote them now, an inconvenience
[1:01] rather than a problem. But it is a heart
[1:05] problem. And Bradley has taken himself
[1:07] off the campaign trail, at least for
[1:08] now. CBS News correspondent Phil Jones
[1:11] has late details. Philip,
[1:13] >> Dan, what we know is that Senator
[1:15] Bradley is being treated as an
[1:16] outpatient in a Northern California
[1:18] hospital tonight. His campaign aids say
[1:21] they expect him to rest and then to get
[1:24] on an airplane and fly to Florida
[1:26] tomorrow to resume his campaign
[1:28] schedule. He was in California
[1:30] campaigning today when he decided to get
[1:33] medical treatment. The irregular
[1:35] heartbeat actually started Thursday
[1:37] night, but he wasn't alarmed because he
[1:40] was diagnosed with this condition back
[1:41] in 1996
